Community engagement charity Sobus is looking for talented, passionate individuals to join our Board of Trustees.  We are looking for a new Trustee Treasurer to help guide the charity through a time of exciting opportunity and development.

It's an exciting time for Sobus, as we look to refresh our service offer, and maximise the investment opportunity following the disposal of a property in 2024.

Our overarching aim is to “strengthen local communities”, through the provision of infrastructure support to the local voluntary sector in the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham and supporting business communities around our North Kensington hub.

Trustee Treasurer: We are seeking a committed individual with a proven, professional track record of financial management and leadership at the highest level, and a sound understanding and experience of the voluntary sector.  We need someone with significant experience of leading long-term strategic development and driving financial sustainability.

You will share our vision and want to take a leading role in our journey to be recognised as an outstanding organisation. It would be a significant advantage if you have an understanding or experience of working in the voluntary and community sector, and even more so if you are a current or former resident of Hammersmith & Fulham or have a tangible, established and current connection with the area.

Sobus was formed in 2014 following a merger between the Community & Voluntary Sector Association and Fulham Community Partnership Trust. However, we were first established as the local CVS in Hammersmith & Fulham in 1998.

Grant Writing Assistant

Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)

Local Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISUDEV) is a registered non-profit organization based in Cameroon, dedicated to improving the quality of life, promoting well-being, and reducing poverty among underprivileged populations and communities in Cameroon.

We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven grant writing assistant to join our team remotely. The grant writing assistant will play a key role in mobilising resources to support LISUDEV's programmes and strategic growth. This position requires a proactive communicator with proposal writing skills, donor engagement, and a passion for social impact.

Arcadia Homes International

Arcadia Homes International is a social enterprise in Western Kenya providing compassionate home-based care, rehabilitation, and psychosocial support for stroke survivors and patients with chronic illnesses together with their caregivers/families.

Arcadia Homes International addresses critical social and environmental challenges affecting stroke survivors and patients with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Kenya, particularly in low-resource rural settings. After initial hospital treatment, many patients are abandoned at home with minimal follow-up care due to a stretched healthcare system. Families face a heavy economic burden that often forces patients to default on essential medications, physiotherapy, and clinic reviews, worsening their conditions and leading to avoidable complications or readmissions.

Caregivers, often family members, are overwhelmed, fatigued, and untrained, managing physically and emotionally demanding care responsibilities with little support, while also losing productive work time. This strain extends to the entire household, with children sometimes dropping out of school to care for their parents or due to financial hardship. Geographic barriers further complicate access to healthcare, as many patients live far from health facilities and lack affordable transport, leading to poor continuity of care. Patients’ mobility challenges, especially in stroke survivors, compound these issues, making even daily activities and accessing community spaces difficult.

Arcadia Homes offers an integrated, community-based home care model that brings healthcare, psychosocial support, rehabilitation, nutrition guidance, and economic empowerment directly to abandoned stroke survivors, NCD patients, and their families in rural Kenya.

Public Health Specialist

This position is entirely voluntary and is therefore unpaid. Pushpa

Pushpa is a diaspora fund that mobilises monthly contributions from people with Bangladeshi roots to collectively vote on and fund sustainable development projects back home.

We address poverty and climate vulnerability in Bangladesh, where communities face frequent natural disasters, limited economic opportunities, and lack of access to sustainable livelihoods. Our projects focus on empowering underserved populations - particularly women, marginalised and rural communities by creating a route to financial independence and building resilience against environmental challenges.

We operate as a diaspora fund that connects people with Bangladeshi roots to meaningful impact back home. Our community contributes monthly to a collective fund, then votes democratically on which locally-led projects to support in Bangladesh. We prioritise transparency through public financial tracking and focus on sustainable, long-term solutions over traditional charity models. By funding grassroots initiatives in areas like agriculture, women's empowerment, and climate resilience, we create economic opportunities that help communities become self-sufficient rather than dependent on aid.

We're building something the South Asian diaspora has never seen before - a fund that actually works how it should. Most diaspora giving is broken with money disappearing and communities staying dependent, but we're fixing that through full transparency, democratic voting, and focusing on economic independence over charity handouts. This is just the beginning - by 2030 we're building a holding company that creates new businesses furthering development for both Bangladesh and diaspora communities, turning funding into sustainable enterprise. About Pushpa Pushpa is a diaspora fund that invests in the economic growth of our people back home. We're currently a limited by guarantee company considering conversion to CIC status as we expand into remittance services and direct investment in Bangladeshi social enterprises.

This role will provide the legal foundation we need to make informed decisions about our corporate structure before proceeding with subsidiary creation or investment processes. The successful volunteer will help us understand the implications of each structure and choose the optimal path for our community-focused growth.

Current Scale:

Responsibilities;

Analyse corporate structure options: Compare CIC vs Ltd by guarantee implications for Pushpa's growth plans, including operational differences, compliance requirements, and strategic impact

Assess subsidiary structures: Evaluate how each parent entity type (CIC vs Ltd) affects our ability to own and control subsidiaries (Investment and remittence entity) whilst maintaining mission alignment.

Review investment frameworks: Analyse how each structure impacts external investment opportunities, shareholder arrangements, and funding mechanisms for subsidiaries

Evaluate asset lock implications: If CIC conversion recommended, assess how asset lock rules affect subsidiary ownership, profit distribution, and operational flexibility

Provide conversion guidance: Deliver step-by-step recommendations for optimal structure choice, including legal documentation requirements, regulatory filings, and implementation timeline

Design governance frameworks: Recommend governance structures that preserve community control whilst enabling commercial growth and external investment

Village Athlete

Village Athlete is a global nonprofit that builds youth-designed sport courts in rural African communities, using art, play, and storytelling to power equity and joy.

Village Athlete addresses the lack of access to safe play spaces for children in rural African communities, a critical social issue often overlooked. Without these spaces, millions of kids miss out on the physical, emotional, and developmental benefits of sport and play. We also confront inequities in youth empowerment, creative expression, and community infrastructure, while promoting sustainable, locally-driven solutions that uplift both social and environmental well-being.

Village Athlete creates safe, inclusive multi-sport courts that are co-designed by the youth in the communities we serve. Through art workshops, children sketch their dream play spaces, which become blueprints for real-world builds. We then turn their artwork into merchandise that funds future courts, creating a self-sustaining loop of play, creativity, and impact. Our model empowers youth, strengthens communities, and makes play a right, not a privilege.

Marketing & Social Media

We're looking for a creative and passionate Marketing & Social Media Volunteer to help us share our story, grow our online community, and inspire action. You’ll work directly with our founder to turn key moments into engaging content and campaigns that amplify our message of play equity.

Responsibilities

Help manage and grow our social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook…and maybe start TikTok?) Usanii Village Africa

Through the boundless power of creativity, we inspire young minds to dream, innovate, and become changemakers in their communities. By using art as a platform for awareness and advocacy, we tackle critical issues like environmental sustainability, gender equality and reproductive health.

Limited Access to Art-Based Education & Economic Opportunities – Many young people, especially out-of-school youth and teenage mothers, lack access to creative and vocational training programmes that can equip them with skills for self-reliance and economic independence.

High Rates of Teenage Pregnancies & School Dropouts – Limited knowledge and resources on sexual and reproductive health contribute to early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and high dropout rates among girls and young women, restricting their future opportunities.

Lack of Environmental Awareness & Sustainable Practices – Communities often lack the knowledge and integration of environmental stewardship in education and daily life, leading to unsustainable practices, environmental degradation, and missed opportunities for eco-friendly innovations.

Usanii Village Africa provides creative and vocational training in fields such as Eco-Artistry, carpentry, fashion, and design. By integrating art with practical skills, young people—especially out-of-school youth and teenage mothers—gain the tools needed for self-reliance and economic empowerment.

To combat early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and school dropouts, Usanii Village Africa equips young people, particularly girls and young women, with essential knowledge and resources on menstrual health, reproductive rights, and gender equality. This ensures they make informed choices about their futures.

By embedding environmental conservation in education and community initiatives, Usanii Village Africa fosters a culture of sustainability. Through Eco-Artistry, waste repurposing, and climate action advocacy, the organization promotes eco-friendly practices and raises awareness about the importance of protecting natural resources.

Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Assistant

Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)

The M&E Volunteer will primarily support data collection and management, helping to design tools, gather information from beneficiaries, and ensure data quality. They'll also assist in basic data analysis, contributing to the interpretation of findings. A key part of the role involves supporting the drafting of impact reports, transforming raw data into clear narratives and visuals that showcase Usanii Village's achievements. Throughout these tasks, the volunteer will receive direct support and guidance from the local Usanii Village team. Finally, the volunteer will contribute to learning and documentation, helping to capture insights and maintain organized M&E records.

Could you coordinate the training for the local SSAFA volunteers in your area? You don’t need a military background, just some basic I.T and admin skills, the ability to get on with a wide range of people and good written and spoken English. Get in touch with us to find out more.

What is a Training Coordinator?

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas. Each one has a Training Coordinator to make sure that all volunteers get all the training they need for their role and that training events are organised and run for the branch. This is a key role involving administration and coordinating people.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.

Our SSAFA branches support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.

To offer the best possible service to our clients SSAFA volunteers need training appropriate to their role. It’s important that we keep records of all the training completed by volunteers and provide local training to meet their needs, whilst also being interesting, fun and varied. We’d love to hear from you if think you could help with this important role.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. The role would suit someone looking to offer a regular commitment to the branch, but days and times could vary to suit you.

What would you be doing?

• Coordinating induction and training for new volunteers
• Completing the admin needed for new volunteer to attend local and national training.
• Running interesting and relevant annual branch training days (minimum of one per year)
• Maintaining an accurate list of all volunteers and the dates when training was completed.
• Working with the Regional Trainer, branch volunteers and the Learning and Development team to identify local training needs and arrange for the required courses to be delivered.
• Supporting and encouraging any volunteers facing barriers to completing their training
• Providing reports to the local SSAFA branch and to SSAFA’s Central Office
• Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA remembering that anyone you meet could be a potential client, volunteer, or fundraiser.
• Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)

The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

• Support from the branch secretary, Regional Trainer and the Learning and Development Team based at our central office.
• Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses
• Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.

What are we looking for?

• Friendly and approachable people, possibly with some experience of teaching/training and admin
• Good written and spoken English.
• Ability to be respectful and non-judgemental with clients, their family, other agencies and SSAFA colleagues.
• Ability to send and receive emails – you will receive your own SSAFA email address.
• Ability to encourage and motivate all volunteers to undertake training.
• Willingness to use spreadsheets/records of volunteer training.
• Reliable attitude, contact clients and volunteers promptly, keep appointments etc.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and keep information safely.
• Access to public transport or a car to travel to meetings, events etc.
