Purpose / Summary of the Role

Aquarius is a national charity working to reduce harm caused by drugs, alcohol, and gambling. We support children, young people, adults, and families through

prevention, early intervention, and recovery-focused services.

The Youth Ambassador role offers aged 16 + students the opportunity to represent Aquarius within their school and local community. You will help raise awareness of substance use, mental health, and wellbeing in a way that feels relevant to young people.

As a Youth Ambassador, you will use your voice to support positive change. You will help challenge stigma, promote healthy choices, and encourage young people to seek support early. The role supports leadership development, confidence, and real world experience in a respected charity setting.

Responsibilities

· Act as a positive and visible representative of Aquarius

· Help raise awareness of drug, alcohol, and wellbeing issues among young

people

· Support campaigns focused on prevention, harm reduction, and early support

· Encourage open, respectful conversations within your school or college

· Share information accurately and responsibly

· Signpost peers to appropriate support and trusted adults

· Follow Aquarius safeguarding and confidentiality guidance at all times

Description of Tasks

· Promote Aquarius messages through school events, campaigns, or

assemblies

· Support awareness days and wellbeing activities

· Take part in peer led discussions or youth voice opportunities

· Share approved information through school or local channels

· Attend training sessions and check ins with Aquarius staff

· Maintain clear boundaries and understand your role limits

Our wellbeing café runs once a month and provides a space for people to grab a brew, a snack and take part in some creative tasks, games and activities, as well as connecting with others.

We're looking for friendly volunteers who can welcome people to the wellbeing café, get them set up and settled in. Volunteers will help people feel comfortable, support them in any activities they would like to do and provide friendly chat.

We'd like someone that's passionate, friendly and willing to get stuck in. You just need to be able to talk to others. listen and be a friendly face for those attending.

Volunteers would need to be free on Wednesday's, between 12.45pm - 3.15pm, (you can still apply even if you ca't do every Wednesday)but you must be over 18 to apply.

Volunteers in this role will be facilitating or co-facilitating regular SMART meetings.

Volunteer SMART facilitators will help to make newcomers feels welcome, and

empower everyone in the meeting to contribute, should they wish to.

If not already trained, volunteers will need to complete the full SMART Recovery UK facilitator training programme.

This role is ideally suited to people with lived experience of recovery, either directly, or through supporting a close friend or family member, although we welcome applications from anyone with an empathetic, non-judgemental attitude that can build strong working relationships

with others.

Tasks may include:

• • Sharing a group agreement at the start of each session, including the importance of respect and confidentiality.
  • Facilitating meetings according to the SMART Recovery Meeting Structure including a check-in, agenda setting, and check-out.
  • Reporting any concerns, including related to safeguarding, that may arise
  • in the group.
  • Link closely with the group lead to plan and evaluate sessions. ·
  • Procuring necessary resources such as flip chart, paper and pens, and setting up before/packing away after each meeting.
  • Support the group lead with any admin tasks linked to the running of the SMART group. E.g. Completing SMART audits or liaising with Regional SMART Community Coordinator.

  • Good IT skills – the SMART Recovery UK training all takes place electronicallyand includes submitting some written responses via email
  • Non-judgmental towards people facing challenges in their lives, including around drug and/or alcohol use and/or mental health

We need empathetic and motivated people, who are committed to welcoming people seeking safety, to join our Sussex volunteer team.

As a volunteer, there is a range of activities you can choose to get involved in. Some activities include:

• Drop-ins - a weekly social space to share a hot drink, play games and sport, help with requests and signposting to support, and help people learn and practice English.

• Distributions - provide essential items like clothing, shoes, toiletries. 

• Trips - organise trips to places such as the park or museum.

• Events - mark specific days or holidays to get people together and celebrate.

Care4Calais is a volunteer-led charity delivering essential aid and support to people seeking asylum living in the UK and Northern France. We provide direct aid and advocate for a fair asylum system, including safe routes to claim asylum.

The UK Direct Aid team delivers essential support through practical services; such as running distributions, delivering English classes and casework-style support through drop-ins. The UK Direct Aid team also provides services to promote wellbeing such as trips and sports activities.

We are looking for a volunteer to befriend and read to someone we support at our services. You will provide companionship to someone we support by spending time with them, visiting them and reading to them.

All these courses will take approximately 40-60 minutes, apart from the First Aid which is 2 hours.
