This bright and colourful shop is busy all week and thrives especially during weekends, thanks to its high footfall and strong local support. You'll work alongside a diverse and committed team of 40 volunteers, leading them to achieve retail excellence while driving the shop's mission forward.

About the role

This is a fixed-term opportunity for an experienced Charity Shop Manager to join our team at our Exeter-based charity.

This new role will combine providing support and/or absence cover to our existing shops, along with getting involved in other opportunities for growth and development across the retail team (e.g. volunteering). Working in the shops may involve working to support the shop manager, or stepping in for them at short notice (and quickly getting to grips with their shop, processes, staff, volunteers and customers).  Supporter Services

•  Lead the development and delivery of the new supporter services function considering people (capability, capacity and culture), processes, tools and technologies needed to deliver outstanding customer service so new and existing supporters feel valued and connected to the ESU’s mission.
• Design and implement supporter recruitment, development and retention plans including welcome journeys and approaches for reactivating dormant supporters.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• 5+ years experience working in a partnerships, supporter services, volunteering or account management role
• Demonstrable experience of having delivered successful services to a range of supporters/customers.
• Demonstrable experience of developing and delivering meaningful supporter journeys across multiple channels
• Demonstrable experience of growing and sustaining a pool of high quality volunteers through successful recruitment and development strategies
• Demonstrable experience of using a CRM (preferably Salesforce) to identify trends and drive improvements.

• Educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as marketing or communications

We have been operating the North Lanarkshire Befriending Project for 25 years. Our team of adult Volunteer Befrienders provide 1:1 befriending support to Young Carers.

We recruit, train, induct and support Volunteer Befrienders who can be a positive, reliable and trustworthy role model to young people aged 8-18. Befrienders are matched 1:1 with a young person and provide bespoke emotional, social and practical support according to the young person’s needs, interests and goals. Together, they spend regular time together, engaging in fun community activities.

Through our support, Young Carers have the chance of a break, become less isolated, more confident and resilient, have enhanced physical and mental health, and are more included in their community.

In this role, you will lead all aspects of the day-to-day delivery of the project. The right candidate would be someone with a good knowledge and understanding of “best practice” in Volunteer Management /Befriending Services, and with experience in supporting children and young people.

 What You’ll Do:

• Lead on delivering our Volunteering Strategy and action plans
• Act as the central point of contact for all volunteering across the Trust
• Design and coordinate inclusive recruitment campaigns
• Support services in developing meaningful, co-designed volunteer roles
• Drive volunteer recognition and retention initiatives
• Ensure best practice in Safer Recruitment and induction
• Analyse volunteering data to inform improvements
• Champion equity, diversity and inclusion within the volunteer workforce

  What We’re Looking For:

• A relevant qualification (NVQ Level 3 in Management or equivalent).
• Significant experience in recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers — including hard-to-fill roles.
• Strong knowledge of Safer Recruitment practices and volunteer management systems (or HR equivalents).
• A successful track record of delivering complex volunteer projects to deadlines.
• Experience working in the charity sector, with a solid understanding of volunteer leadership, recruitment, and retention challenges.
• Confidence in using data to analyse trends and improve volunteer engagement.
• Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, including data protection.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong IT literacy.

We are looking for a talented Shop Manager who is an enthusiastic self-starter, with a passion for charity retail, to manage our Warwick shop on a full time (37.5 hours per week) basis.

Relate is a leading relationships service, offering counselling, information, mediation and support to individuals, couples and families from all backgrounds and sexualities, at all stages of life. We also provide expert training for relationship support practitioners.

Relate is now part of the family charity, Family Action. Supporting people through change, challenge or crisis, we protect children, support young people and adults, and offer direct, practical help to families and communities. We currently manage 11 shops located within 5 regions across the UK. Our shops generate income to support the work of Relate. The shops are managed by paid Shop Managers, supported by Assistant Shop Managers/Sessional Workers (Retail Assistants) and our amazing Shop Volunteers.

You will be responsible for the creation of a warm and welcoming environment for customers, volunteers and donors, with a view to maximising sales, profits and Gift Aid to support the work of Relate at Family Action.

The successful applicant will be required to work flexibly for 37.5 hours each week (5 days per week including Weekends) across a 7 day trading week, Monday to Sunday.

About the role

Our volunteers and the people we support are at the heart of everything we do, and we are looking for someone who shares our strong commitment to these values. A belief in the power of communities and a desire to champion volunteers of all ages and backgrounds is essential for this role. 

Key tasks include:

• Support the development and execution of a comprehensive internal communications strategy that drives colleague engagement and strengthens a unified organisational culture aligned with strategic objectives. 

• Develop and disseminate impactful, timely, and relevant internal communications content that resonates with colleagues across the organisation. 

• Provide operational and administrative support to the Brand and Communications Team to enhance our efficiency and reach. 

• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications efforts through rigorous analysis of feedback, metrics, and data insights, leveraging findings to refine and optimise strategies at a national level. 

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure all internal communications initiatives reflect and reinforce the organisation’s core values, mission, and strategic vision. 

• Provide guidance, training and support to various departments in crafting effective internal communications materials, ensuring consistency in tone, style and branding.

• Create inspiring and straightforward stories with a focus on powerful imagery and video content.
