 About the role:

We would love to hear from anyone with experience and enthusiasm for training and working in mental health. The Training Officer role is pivotal for the recruitment and training of all our volunteers, who go on to support people affected by mental illness on our helpline or text services.

You will be part of the training delivery team that recruits and trains new volunteers for our out of hours mental health specialist helpline. You will provide support to the Training Manager by responding to volunteer emails and communications, preparing and updating the training material as required and taking active part in recruitment and development of SANE volunteers in line with agreed targets. You will ensure clear and timely information sharing and handover to colleagues and work closely with the service team to maintain high-quality service to our callers.

The role of Training Officer requires an open minded attitude, strong communication skills and ability to provide feedback to individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Starting Salary: £16,200 pro rata, 22.5 hours (FTE £27,000 per annum)

Role purpose

This role would suit someone with at least 2 years’ experience in a charity finance role, who has experience or knowledge of all the core accounts department processes and some understanding of different charity income streams. You might be studying for an accounting qualification (e.g. AAT or ACCA) or be qualified by experience.

A training package may be available for an applicable accounting qualification.

Responsibilities

• Day to day management and systems administration of Xero accounting software, expenses software (ExpenseIn), and other linked financial applications.
• Carry out monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, debtors and creditors, and set up payment runs.
• Prepare monthly management accounts journals (prepayments, accruals, depreciation, deferred and accrued income) and control account reconciliations.
• Being the systems administrator for the Fundraising CRM system (Donorfy) and linked platforms and applications (e.g. JustGiving, Stripe, EventBright).
• Database management of Donorfy and linked platforms and applications.
• Reconcile data between Donorfy and Xero, and where necessary, with other linked platforms and applications.
• Ensure Gift Aid returns are correctly submitted to HMRC (via Donorfy)
• Support with the development and implementation of new systems and procedures.
• Provide training and induction to new joiners in using Donorfy and ExpenseIn as well as for any other relevant platforms and applications.
• Business partnering - provide day to day support to the wider organisation with finance and fundraising system queries, payment information, and supplier queries.
• Working with budget holders to provide transaction reports, income and expenditure reports, and updates on payments from finance and fundraising systems to assist them to manage their project budgets.
• Assist Finance Director and Fundraising team where necessary with financial reporting to funders.

Skills/ experience

Essential

• Proven experience in all areas of accounts - purchase and sales ledger, banking and cash management, basic management accounts.
• Experience of Xero or similar cloud-based finance system.
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly excel and an ability to quickly learn new systems.

Desirable

• Accountancy qualification or studying for (e.g. AAT, ACCA).
• Experience of Donorfy or similar CRM system.
• Experience of dealing with charitable income and an understanding of how to account for restricted grants.

Day Care Officer – Day Care Centres 

Age UK Camden Day Care Centres are looking to recruit Day Care Officers to cover a range of hours and shifts across our two Day Care Centres. 

Our Centres provide a wide range of activities as well as being a specialist Day Care Centres caring for older people with complex needs. The Day Care Centres also provide a hot lunch and a range of special events. 

We have a dedicated, specialist team supporting people with care needs, including those living with mild - moderate dementia and complex needs.

Fine Cell Work are looking for an exceptionally supportive and non-judgemental individual to act as the first point of contact and underpin all aspects of Fine Cell Work's post-prison programme, Open The Gate (OTG). 

Beyond skills for employment, OTG offers a range of support to prison-leavers, who we refer to as Apprentices. The Engagement Support Officer will be responsible for establishing sustainable referral pathways with external partners, recruiting OTG Apprentices in line with organisational strategy, and preparing individual risk assessments and tailored support plans. They will also be responsible for the development of OTG’s remote support scheme and for supporting volunteer employment mentors alongside the Volunteer and Programmes Manager.

Our purpose

Fine Cell Work is a rehabilitation charity and social enterprise that teaches prisoners and prison-leavers to make beautiful handmade products.  The making and selling of high quality needlework boosts their self-worth, instils self-discipline and fosters hope.  Our aim is for our stitchers to finish their sentences with work skills, money earned and saved, and the self-belief to not re-offend.  We also guide them towards training and support on release.  At the Fine Cell Work Hub in Battersea, we run our Open the Gate programme which provides work experience, formal training and employment to prison-leavers. 

The role

As well as offering person-centred support and helping to shape our post-release programmes, you would be responsible for:

• Presenting and promoting Open the Gate among external partners including HMP resettlement teams, probation services, approved premises and other organisations supporting prison-leavers on their resettlement journey.
• Assisting with the development of risk management plans including information gathering, dissemination, and regular review.
• Providing day to day practical, emotional, and sign-posting support to a caseload of adult Apprentices engaging with Open the Gate and providing ad hoc support to past Apprentices when required.
• Action planning and setting out individual objectives with all Apprentices, supporting them to achieve work-ready outcomes in an agreed period.
• Working with the team to research and liaise with offender support and employment agencies beyond FCW, signposting Apprentices and supporting mentors with appropriate signposting and referrals to partner agencies.
• Working with the wider team at FCW to develop and coordinate a series of employability and creative wellbeing workshops for Apprentices.
• Ensuring timely, accurate, and safe recording of all information and personal data.
• Responding to safeguarding concerns in line with FCW policy and procedure.
• Providing remote support via telephone and online to FCW experienced prison-leavers who do not live in London and the Southeast.
• Supporting the Volunteer and Programmes Manager with delivering the Service User Involvement Strategy and championing service user involvement across the organisation more broadly.
• Supporting the Volunteer and Programmes Manager to recruit and deliver training to mentors and other volunteers in roles supporting OTG Apprentices.
• Working with the Volunteer and Programmes Manager to develop and enhance the OTG Mentor Offer including as the first point of contact for Mentors pre- and post- mentoring sessions.

Leadership

• Work collaboratively with the Chief Executive Officer, HWR Board, Staff and Volunteers to develop print and digital communications and printed materials to support the work of Healthwatch and its outreach and engagement activities.

• Develop relationships with sector, national and local media

• Ensure a consistent brand and identity is maintained and support colleagues to ensure quality communications across all products and initiatives.

• Manage the HWR digital and print communications channels, such as enewsletters, social media and print newsletters. • Ensure and maintain the online/ Web presence of Healthwatch including Twitter and LinkedIn

• Secure local, regional and national press coverage of HWR work in a variety of publications.

• Support and sustain information, advice, and signposting services to ensure individuals are directed to appropriate health and social care services.

• Promote equality, diversity and inclusion by ensuring that communications are accessible to all segments of society.

• Publicise volunteer opportunities and their role in improving the delivery of health and social care services.

• Ensure compliance with Healthwatch England brand guidelines and protocols.

• Co-ordinate the design and production of press releases, information and promotional materials required by the team.

• Assist the CEO and the team with the production of reports as required.

• Review and monitor materials produced by other organisations and feedback areas of potential interest to the team.

• Provide general admin cover for the Healthwatch Redbridge office – answering telephones, dealing with general enquiries and visitors to the office.

• Collate copy, edit content, design, and launch print reports on the work of Healthwatch.

• Collaborate with staff across Healthwatch to develop outstanding digital and print content for all HWR channels.

This is a challenging role as the sector has seen a real decline in volunteering in recent years, so we're looking for an innovative, forward thinking change-maker who is ready to test new approaches.

Additionally, the Volunteer Manager will be a creative communicator, with the ability to build supportive relationships with a very large and diverse group of volunteers. The postholder will ensure that volunteers receive training, development and supervision to support the families we work with, and that high standards of practice are maintained. They will promote initiatives to increase the retention of existing volunteers and ensure that they are recognised and rewarded for their work.They will also promote Home-Start in each of the boroughs where we work, seeking opportunities for recruitment within local communities.

The work requires a combination of field-based community engagement and training in Barnet, Brent and Harrow and regular days in the office which is in Finchley, Barnet.

The Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) is seeking a new Chief Executive to lead the organisation through the next phase of its growth and development. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for a highly experienced and energetic senior player to lead a small executive team, along with many highly dedicated and capable Institute members, as we embark on a number of key development projects which will continue to grow our charitable activities and influence in the food sector. The role is a key point of contact and ambassador for the Institute with many senior and influential stakeholders within the food sector and governments.

We are looking for a strong strategic and conceptual thinker, experienced in business and financial management, who can communicate with and influence people at all levels. The role leads a small team and will have significant hands-on involvement in day to day operational matters.

The individual will have attained a BSc or equivalent level, and have demonstrable experience in leadership and people management. They will have a broad understanding of the food (or associated) sector (and preferably experience working in the sector). Ideally, the individual will already have experience managing or running a charity, and so will have a practical understanding of charity governance best practice. 

With multiple activities from publishing through to professional recognition and from scientific and technical events and communication through to supporting the next generation of talent, the Institute is looking for a leader who can work creatively and yet in a focussed way to ensure all these activities are progressed.

Ideally, they will have previously worked for a professional membership body and are likely to have experience in the food sector.
