Shannon Trust are delighted to be working with His Majesty’s Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS) to provide peer-led literacy and numeracy programmes across a number of prisons.  We now have the opportunity to provide a service at HMP Belmarsh (subject to contract award). Working closely with the prison and their staff, people in prison, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, this post will lead the delivery and development of our literacy and numeracy programme at HMP Belmarsh, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn to read. 

Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings  underpinned by the ability to build relationships and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach. 

This role will be prison-based. Job Summary

To take the lead in ensuring that appropriate arrangements for keeping children, young people and adults at risk of harm safe are actioned at MHI as part of a Designated Safeguarding team covering the Shout platform 24/7. The role is responsible for promoting the safety and welfare of children and young people on our platform, being a consistent and reliable presence on the Shout platform, and advising Shout Supervisors on safeguarding actions and practise while raising and recording safeguarding issues as they arise. 

Key Responsibilities

• To act as an MHI Designated Safeguarding Officer.
• Contribute to developing and reviewing MHI’s safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
• Alongside the DSO, contribute to ensuring that everyone working or volunteering with or for children and young people at MHI, including the board of trustees, understands the safeguarding and child protection policy and procedures and knows what to do if they have concerns about a child’s welfare
• Take a lead role in implementing MHI’s safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures: ensuring all safeguarding and child protection issues concerning children and young people who take part in MHI’s activities are responded to appropriately
• Take the lead on responding to information that may constitute a child protection concern, including a concern that an adult involved with MHI may present a risk to children or young people. This includes:
  • assessing and clarifying the information
  • calling in and recording all safeguarding issues as they arise.
  • supporting and responding to staff who raise internal concerns as well as supporting those who make external safeguarding referrals to police or Adult / Children's Services
  • making referrals to statutory organisations as appropriate
  • consulting with and informing the relevant members of the organisation’s management

• following the organisation’s safeguarding policy and procedures
• Immediately referring cases to the Safeguarding Panel where there is a radicalisation concern

• Liaise with, pass on information to and receive information from statutory child protection agencies such as:

• Record and retain child protection records according to legal requirements and the organisation’s safeguarding and child protection policy and procedures.
• Work closely with the management committee/board of trustees and Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure they are kept up to date with safeguarding issues and are fully informed of any concerns about organisational safeguarding and child protection practice.
• Contribute to regular reports to MHI’s board of trustees on issues relating to safeguarding and child protection, to ensure that child protection is seen as an ongoing priority issue and that safeguarding and child protection requirements are being followed at all levels of the organisation.
• Be familiar with and work within inter-agency child protection procedures developed by child protection agencies working in partnership with MHI.
• Be familiar with issues relating to child protection and abuse, and keep up to date with new developments in this area.
• Attend regular training in issues relevant to child protection and share knowledge from that training with everyone who works or volunteers with or for children and young people at MHI.
• Attend team meetings, supervision sessions and management meetings as arranged.
• Hold safeguarding workshops and drop-in consultations for the ongoing training and support of MHI clinical and volunteer support staff.

• Child protection leads must have received relevant safeguarding and child protection training that MHI require and that is specific to their role. Regional Manager for Volunteer Mentors (London) - £29,000  per annum plus London Weighting (pro-rata)

The role is responsible for overseeing high-quality sourcing of volunteers to join as 1MM Mentors, in London and nationally. The role will help to establish a pipeline in line with 1MM’s aspirations for 2024 and beyond.  This role reports to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO).

1MM Regional Manager for Volunteer Mentors main tasks include:

• Helping 1MM to scale by helping establish over 150 new, high quality mentoring matches each quarter. (A match means that the mentor and the mentee have completed 1MM’s training and have had their first meeting)

• Meeting all quality assurance KPIs.

• Maximising conversion, retention, and mitigate drop-off

• Providing ongoing support for key stakeholder partners, including Employers, and maintaining strong relationships.

• Securing at least one new partner per quarter.

• Becoming familiar with the 1MM Platform, using it comfortably for ongoing administration and providing support to users.

• Providing regular reports on progress related to the role.

• Potential for line-management responsibilities as the team grows.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is the home of the Chelsea Pensioners. It has a rich history and provides supported accommodation, residential and nursing care for some 300 retired soldiers. There are also plans to develop a digital offer.

 The Veterans’ Outreach Officer will support  the Head of Veterans’ Outreach in developing and managing the programme of activities encouraging engagement and social interaction between Chelsea Pensioners and other service veterans thereby helping to alleviate the social isolation and loneliness felt by many older veterans. Responsibilities will include promoting the programme within veterans' networks and finding innovative ways to connect with veterans; the management of themed events both at the Royal Hospital Chelsea and further afield as we seek to expand nationwide. Job Title:  Training Lead: Parents and Volunteers

We are seeking a motivated, compassionate and engaging training lead for our parent and volunteer training programs. The training lead for parents and volunteers will lead on the design, development and delivery of a program of training support for parents impacted by Child Sexual Abuse and will support with the delivery of the training for new We Stand volunteers.

Role Description 

To plan, develop and deliver parent training and workshops for protective parents and carers whose

children have been sexually abused; to support parents and carers to understand and process the impacts of child sexual abuse and learn strategies for supporting their children after abuse together with those who share similar experiences. To work collaboratively with We Stand colleagues, to provide support that is accessible, appropriate, timely and tailored to suit the needs of individual clients.

To contribute to the recruitment and selection of We Stand volunteers including student therapists on placement and helpline volunteers. To lead on the delivery of induction and training for all new volunteers and ensure that they are adequately prepared and supported to begin their placement with We Stand.

Parent Training: 

Parent training and workshops are designed to support parents following a disclosure of CSA. The training focuses on providing parents and carers with the useful information and strategies they need to manage and support their child or young person’s journey of recovery. Via 1:1 or group sessions, parents gain the knowledge they need to help them support their child and regain confidence in themselves.

Key Responsibilities

Design and development of content 

• Setting up an annual program of training and workshop delivery for parents and carers

Rainbow Migration, the longest-running charity in Europe dedicated to supporting LGBTQI+ people through the asylum and immigration system, is recruiting a Legal Officer to advise and help improve the representation of LGBTQI+ people seeking asylum, and help change the asylum and immigration system to one that treats everyone with compassion, dignity and respect.

We are looking for a qualified solicitor or barrister with valid practising certificate, or already accredited to Level 3 OISC, with two years’ experience in providing advice and representation in asylum including working in legal aid.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the legal advice service. Under the guidance of our Legal Service Manager, you will also build capacity amongst legal representatives by designing and delivering training, giving second tier advice and developing and coordinating a network of practitioners working in this area. You will use the knowledge you gain in this role to help deliver Rainbow Migration’s policy work, such as inputting into policy papers and meeting with partner organisations when required.

· Deliver second tier advice to the legal representatives of LGBTQI+ people seeking asylum and other charities and professionals

· Work with the Legal Service Manager to design and deliver training to lawyers, NGOs and other professionals

· Write blogs and articles on asylum and immigration policy and legislation as they apply to LGBTQI+ people

· Contribute to policy and briefing papers

· Assist with preparing guidelines and briefings for legal services and pro bono lawyers

The Legal Officer will not be providing direct legal representation of service users. However, the role includes substantive advice and casework within the scope of legal support and referrals for our service users, as well as merits testing and second tier advice.

Salary: Starting at £40,175, with potential annual step increases up to £44,868 (pro-rata for part-time employees), plus statutory employer’s pension contribution. In addition to an annual step increase, the trustees consider giving a separate inflationary increase every April. 

Location: Remote or from Rainbow Migration’s offices in central London. Hybrid working will also be considered. This area of our work helps us to understand the impact of our grantmaking and creates and evaluates internal and external datasets to improve our work. Responsibilities:

Data Collection: Assist with the collection and storage of research and survey data, including demographic data and outcomes indicators, employing quantitative and qualitative methods. Gather and engage with external open and government datasets.

The Amber Trust provides musical opportunities for blind and partially sighted children, including those with additional disabilities, via its Music Awards and Music Services.

Amber Music Awards fund instrumental and singing lessons, the purchase of musical instruments and specialist software, funding for concert tickets, and travel to musical activities for vision impaired children throughout the UK. In addition, there are structured programmes in its Music Services.

‘Little Amber’ is a service that offers music resources and quarterly sessions with a specially trained music practitioner to children under five and their families. ‘AmberPlus’ provides music resources and sessions offered on a termly basis to children over five who also have complex needs.’ ‘With Music in Mind’ is a new service for visually impaired children and young people with life-limiting neurodegenerative disease. Amber’s workshop scheme offers music sessions for groups of children in schools, charities and community organisations.

We have also developed extensive online music resources for teachers that are freely downloadable from anywhere in the world.

The Charity has a turnover of around £400k, employs a small central administrative team, and, for the music services, works through a large network of self-employed practitioners.

 Role purpose

The Chief Executive Officer is responsible to the Board of Trustees for leading The Amber Trust, developing and realising Amber’s vision and strategy, and playing a key ambassadorial role with funders and other senior stakeholders. The CEO is responsible for the management of the charity and its staff and the execution of Amber’s targets, plans and policies, ensuring that resources are used to best effect in meeting the needs of beneficiaries. The CEO is responsible for initiating and overseeing new initiatives that will ensure Amber plays a leading role in the field of music and blindness in children and young people into the future.

Role Description

Accountabilities: To develop, lead and manage The Amber Trust, in particular:

 Strategy

•      to develop and deliver innovative projects and services in accordance with Amber’s strategy.

• to ensure Amber flourishes, meeting all its charitable objectives and its legal obligations as a charity and a company limited by guarantee, and to honour its duty of care to its staff, beneficiaries and other stakeholders;
