We are seeking a skilled Programme Officer to support the end-to-end delivery of our sector-leading mentoring programme, ensuring participants join smoothly and are supported throughout. You will also support partners and donors to contribute to the delivery and expansion of the programme. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with strong customer service skills, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone is a 21st century youth hub located at the heart of Blackburn and a dedicated site in Darwen, open to young people aged 5 to 25 years old, aiming to change the prospects offered to young people in the area. Our vision is to be at the heart of the community, collaborating to create a more cohesive and prosperous Blackburn and Darwen.

We are one of the leading youth organisations in Blackburn, with a membership of over 5000 young people. We are open 7 days a week, 52 weeks of a year and offer over 40 different activities and opportunities in our open-access youth club.

Context of Role:

Our Head of Young People's Services is a critical, strategic and operational role within Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zone. As a supporting member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will work closely with the Director of Operations, CEO and the Director of Finance to ensure the charity delivers its vision and strategic objectives. This includes strategies for sustaining and overseeing the ongoing transformation of Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zones' operational business plan and its operational processes and infrastructure. Your leadership skills will play a crucial role (in conjunction with the leadership team) in establishing a platform and environment for growth by creating a best-in-class, people-first, employee-of-choice that changes the prospect of local children and young people (aged 5 to 25 years). You must be abreast of new opportunities (sourced independently and through your colleagues) and advise the leadership team and board on all Universal and Targeted Service operational matters, including its performance, risk, forecast/trajectories, and the general state of play. 

You will need to show exceptional skills and the ability to meet KPI’s relating to (but, not limited to) leadership skills, the ability to design and deliver organisational operational plans, risk management, departmental budget management, stakeholder relations and organisational safeguarding responsibility. 

We have big plans for the Youth Zone and this is an exciting time to join us. We would expect the right candidate for this role to be open to new opportunities and there is a strong line of progression within the charity for the right person. 

This role will lead on providing senior technical advice, leadership and guidance to the planning, delivery and monitoring of communications activities across the organisation.

Senior Helpline Advisor

In this role you will provide immediate and short term intervention via the telephone to children and young people impacted by crime and manage a small Triage team.

The Role

As a Senior Triage Officer - Children and Young people’s Service, you will be:

• Managing a team delivering initial telephone-based support and an effective triage service to those affected by crime
• Responsible for line managing a team including recruitment, performance management and monitoring, support and guidance
• Act as the first point of contact for clients referred in to the service, ensuring that comprehensive impact and risks assessments are completed and a tailored response to each client’s needs is provided.
• Accountable for the performance of the team including maintaining performance information, using outcomes to identify effective practice and ensuring compliance with national standards, codes of practice and all legislative requirements
• Be the point of escalation for complex and sensitive cases and queries, whilst providing support, advice and guidance to the team
• Managing and monitoring workloads across the team, promoting effective communication channels to ensure best practice

You will need to have the following essential skills:

• The ability to undertake impact and risks assessments and identify appropriate support
• Excellent telephone and IT skills required to use a database and undertake all administrative and reporting requirements
• Experience of safeguarding issues and legislation relating to both child protection and vulnerable adults
• Knowledge and understanding of the impact of crime on those who experience it, a working knowledge of the criminal justice system
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, sharing, coaching others.
• Good communication skills, both verbally & written and ability to demonstrate empathy

About the role:

The MARAC Coordinator will coordinate, administer, and manage the operation of the MARAC. One of the main purposes of the role is to bring together agencies to ensure that local systems are truly keeping survivors safe, holding perpetrators to account, and preventing domestic abuse. A key principle of the post is respecting the independence of each agency and ensuring the MARAC’s key principles are survivor’s and children’s safety, offender accountability and giving a clear message that domestic abuse is s crime that will not be tolerated. The post holder will be located in Brent, and will meet MARAC partners in a variety of settings in the community. The post holder will also spend time raising awareness of the service, domestic abuse, and the MARAC in addition to training agencies on the MARAC and inducting new MARAC representatives on the MARAC.

The post holder will have an excellent understanding of domestic abuse and its effects on women and children, of best practice in supporting survivors of domestic abuse, and of the MARAC. The post holder will also have a good understanding of managing a project.

About You:

To be successful as the MARAC Co-ordinator you will need the below experience and skills:

Excellent understanding of domestic abuse and its effects on women and children, of best practice in supporting survivors of domestic abuse, and of the MARAC.

Thorough knowledge of safeguarding practice, procedures and legislation

A good understanding of the importance of confidentiality and anti-discriminatory practice, safe practice and health and safety procedures

Experience of risk and needs assessment, safety and support planning, and crisis planning and successfully managing high numbers of referrals

A clear understanding of the coordinated community response to domestic violence and abuse, how it relates to MARAC in particular, and experience of the purpose and workings of MARAC 

Experience of supervision/coaching of staff or volunteers, of managing performance and achieving targets through review of individual and team practice

Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills; including report writing, data collection and monitoring

Good understanding of managing a project

Responsibilities as our Safeguarding Officer will include:

• Assessing and managing safeguarding allegations against those involved in the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC) and concerns about the welfare of children engaged in SCC activities
• Responding appropriately  to  concerns  affecting  a  child  and  their  safety  and  welfare  and  take  appropriate and timely action.
• Supporting,  guiding  and  coaching SCC  volunteers  to  implement  a  local  response  to  safeguarding  concerns
• Making referrals to statutory agencies e.g. Local Authority Designated Officer, Police, Children’s Services, Social Care or equivalent across the UK (including DBS, PVGS). 
• Attending strategy meetings,  networking meetings, external meetings etc. as required
• Operating on call duties out of office hours on a rota basis
• Being the Leading Officer on  safeguarding  enquiries,  including  writing  enquiry  report  in  preparation  for  enquiry  meetings,  supporting  volunteers  and  enquiry  officers  in  this  process,  reviewing  outcome  and  decision  making  in  conjunction  with  HoS/SM/Area  Officers/LADO/ Statutory agency. 

Requirements needed for our Safeguarding Officer:

• Support, guide and coach SCC volunteers to implement a local response to safeguarding concerns
• Effective and skilful management of an allocated caseload
• Lead professional – Allegation Management
• Action referrals to statutory agencies e.g. Local Authority Designated Officer, Police, Children’s Services, Social Care or equivalent across the UK (including DBS, PVGS)

About the role:

This role is based in our office at Whitecross Studio's, 50 Banner Street, London, with flexibility of hybrid working. The role requires travelling to other VS offices across London.

As a Senior Children and Young Persons Caseworker, you will be required to:

• Conduct risk assessment to ensure each CYP receives a tailored support that meets their needs, including safety planning, advocacy, emotional and practical support
• Provide one to one support to children & young people who are a victim or witness to a crime & advocate on their behalf
• Manage a caseload of different risk level cases & regularly review risk
• Make any necessary referrals to MARAC & follow local safeguarding processes
• Involve children & young people in making decisions about themselves & the development of the service.
• Establish links with relevant statutory partners in Social Care, Education, Health, Police and Housing & attend meetings as required
• Manage up to 4 staff, conducting supervisions & case reviews, providing support & coaching as required

You will need:

• Experience of working directly with vulnerable children and young people
• Knowledge of risk assessment & actions required to safeguard children & young people
• An understanding of the issues for children & young people experiencing crime
• Experience of building relationships & delivering effective multi-agency a partnership work
• Good organisational skills, able to prioritise effectively
• The ability to maintain accurate & confidential case records
• Good written & verbal communication skills
• Ability to use IT systems including Microsoft Office

Role Purpose

The Community Engagement Manager (Maternity Cover) role will be a critical piece of our Community Programmes team, which provides support to founders at every stage of their startup journey. The Community Programme offering includes a roster of events including panels, masterclasses and workshops, as well as mentoring and coaching opportunities, and peer-to-peer engagement opportunities. We work with an exciting range of partners across the private and third sectors to connect underrepresented founders to networks and capital that will help launch and grow their mission-driven businesses.

We are looking for a driven, process-oriented self-starter who is interested in a role that will expose them to a variety of activities across the Community portfolio. As the Community Engagement Manager, you’ll work directly with the Co-Head of Programmes to ensure the systems we need are in place to support the team to deliver their support offering and that we are constantly learning and evolving our programme offering from Founder feedback and engagement.

You’ll be responsible for developing and delivering programmes and events for the graduate community, as well as contribute to our community engagement strategy – helping us to set up new aspects of our programmes and collaborating with programme managers and coordinators across the portfolio to contribute to a more engaged community of entrepreneurs.

Responsibilities

Graduate Community Engagement

• Maintain the community engagement strategy for enhanced engagement between founders and a more cohesive founder journey across all stages
•  Maintain the end-to-end design and management of the founder experience in the graduate community platform (Circle)
• Helping founders to widen their networks and facilitate connections that can provide critical support and direction via our graduate community platform
• Work collaboratively across the Programmes team to ensure entrepreneurs who engage with Hatch are connected to the best programmes, resources and offers for them
• Maintaining a list of partnership perks for the  community
• Understanding both founder needs and partnership opportunities and coordinate the creation of  relevant resources, content and perks to meet these
• Attend ecosystem events and speak on behalf of Hatch, and engage the wider team in doing the same
• Helping to ensure consistent relationship management and communication with partner organisations

Programme delivery and development

• Reviewing existing insights and conducting research to refine existing and new peer-to-peer programmes for Hatch founders and graduates
• Engaging mentors, experts and facilitators, where applicable, to support with the leadership of peer-to-peer programmes 
• Planning, facilitating and evaluating networking opportunities for founders to build and foster  community engagement
• Developing and managing  support  opportunities for our graduates to increase their access to capital, contracts, and connections
• Working collaboratively with Marketing and Communications team to drive engagement through founder and graduate communication channels
• Managing the content strategy and maintenance of the Resource Hub, to ensure accessibility of content for founders outside of a cohort programme

Systems and administration

• Maintaining the KPI tracking system to record programme founder participation, feedback and learning outcomes
• Feeding into the development of a new CRM system to help us better manage our founder and partner relationships
• Supporting the development and maintenance of our calendar of activities, showcasing engagement opportunities to our founders and the public
• Reviewing and suggesting improvements and innovations  to systems and implementing system changes

Monitoring and evaluation

• Supporting the collection and collation of feedback from volunteers, mentors and founders in order to monitor and improve participant experience
• Working with the Fundraising team to report on Community Programme KPIs, anecdotal feedback, and to support with the generation of case studies, for funder reports and fundraising pitches
• Collecting and analysing relevant data for the resources webpage, graduate community platform, as well as keeping up to date with any relevant tech updates and training required for monitoring the data

Other 

• Gaining and maintaining in-depth knowledge and understanding of Hatch’s work, priorities and future plans and acting as a spokesperson for the charity when required
• Representing Hatch externally at speaking  and networking opportunities 
• Other duties that may be required from time to time as part of a small, dynamic team

Person Specification 

• Excellent time-management and organisational skills
• Comfortable collecting and generating insights from data for reports

Bonny Downs Community Association has been working together to change lives and transform our community since 1998. Over the past 25 years our team has grown to provide a wide array of services that benefit Newham residents from all walks of life. 

This role is specifically funded through the Youth Endowment fund as a pilot project ‘Thriving Communities’. You will be required to work alongside Thriving Communities commissioners, as well as the project’s Youth Justice Worker’s, Educational Psychologist, and/or professionals assigned to individual young people’s cases- such as teachers, social workers and mentors. The Thriving Communities project is a small part of a wider collaborative project, EMPOWER YOUTH, delivered by two partner charities so, although this position is based at BDCA, you will be working closely with a second East Ham Youth Partnership Project lead and team of Sessional Assistants based at nearby charity The Renewal Programme (TRP). Staff from each organisation will work together to deliver the programme and cross-refer young people to activities led by both teams. You will also be required to work with BDCA’s own Children & Families team during the summer scheme and liaise with our marketing team all year round. External partner agencies that you will work directly with include Thriving Communities panel, Newham Youth Empowerment Service, Newham Community Engagement Team, local sports clubs and schools.
