Stepping Stones exists to improve the lives of adults with learning disabilities. We are seeking an enthusiastic and agile manager who will be at the heart of the organisation and will lead a small team of qualified tutors and volunteers in continuing to provide high quality experiences for the people who attend. Stepping Stones is a community that loves to socialise and learn new skills together. Our current programme includes art, dance, drama and music, together with digital skills and cooking.

This role is responsible for strategic development with the guidance of the Board of Trustees, income generation, and the management of all aspects of service delivery. It is our intention to appoint a new post of Activity Co-ordinator to support the Charity Manager as budgets allow. You will play an active part in designing this role so that it enhances our delivery and increases capacity within the organisation.

Our experience during the pandemic and consequently, has shown us that being together in real life is an essential element of our offer to the people who attend Stepping Stones and so this post requires a physical presence preferably 3 days per week during the period when classes are running (30 weeks per year).  We are open in our approach to recruitment and are keen to support the right candidate to flourish. This means that we are happy to consider flexible working hours and an annualised hours contract if this supports your work life balance.

ABOUT YOU
You will build good working relationships with all stakeholders including the people who attend our classes, their network of support (including support workers, carers and family members), funders, partners and the local community. Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, you will be comfortable working with autonomy. You will be a strong team leader, proactive problem solver, and confident making decisions for the good of the organisation. Whilst the role demands strategic thinking and planning, it also requires you to be visible and accessible. You will sometimes contribute to activities when time allows, for example, in pilot phases of new classes

ABOUT THE CHARITY
Stepping Stones is a thriving, longstanding and highly valued community organisation. We have delivered activities for over 30 years and our weekly classes are an important part of the lives of people who attend.

Our main delivery is a timetable of up to 14 weekly classes from our base in a multipurpose community centre. We also have activities off site including gardening at a local allotment and music and art classes at a day centre and residential home. Each week over 100 people benefit from our activities.

The Community Fundraising team at Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) is responsible for securing income from individuals, regional businesses and groups fundraising in the community, effectively managing relationships to maximise income.

The Regional Fundraising Officer role will play a significant part in contributing to a high-performing fundraising team. The role will cover the Kent and Sussex region.

You will report to the Community Fundraising Manager and support the Head of Regional Fundraising to drive the continued growth of the charity’s community fundraising income in your area. You will also be required to show excellent relationship-building skills to support community partnerships and volunteer groups, driving towards agreed targets.

This is a 12-month fixed term contract, or on return of the substantive post holder, to cover a period of maternity leave.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

Strategy, finance, and reporting

· Responsibility for 3 income streams within the Kent and Sussex region including corporate, community groups and Do It Yourself (DIY) fundraising.

· Identify and apply for ‘Charity of the Year’ partnerships with corporates in the region, account manage these relationships up to a value of £50,000 per annum and support the Partnership Development Team with partnerships in your region with a value of up to £100,000.

· Support existing volunteer fundraisers to encourage continued loyalty to the charity and to maximise funds raised, following fundraising legislation and good practice.

· Recruit new fundraising supporters in line with strategy.

· Support the Community Fundraising Manager (CFM) and Head of Regional Fundraising (HORF) in developing the Community Fundraising strategy for ARUK to increase income within this stream.

· Support and extend volunteer networks within the geographical area in line with strategy.

· To ensure that fundraising activity is implemented and managed locally to deliver budgets, targets and income in line with strategy. To achieve this by supporting and facilitating the development of groups and volunteers across the geographical area.

· Work across a diverse geographical area and within a geographically dispersed team, whilst managing own workload cost-effectively and proactively.

Supporter Management

· Provide excellent customer service to community fundraising supporters (including maintaining a polite, enthusiastic manner with prompt responses to enquiries), to acknowledge support and increase long-term loyalty.

· Provide high-quality account management to volunteer groups in geographical area.

· Effective management of volunteer relationships within geographical area.

· Support, motivate and develop local fundraising volunteers, ensuring they have a clear understanding of ARUK to enable them to represent the charity’s work effectively.

· In liaison with the Partnership Development Managers and Partnership Development Officers, provide high-quality account management to corporate supporters within the specified geographical area and/or of relevant value.

· Keep up to date with fundraising legislation and codes of practice to be able to provide relevant advice to fundraisers.

· Ensure volunteers and fundraisers have all necessary materials for fundraising initiatives.

Increasing Community Support within geographical area

· Use own initiative to extend volunteer networks, develop new groups and supporters, and respond to fundraising opportunities within the geographical area, in line with strategy.

· Run volunteer events with both a recruitment and cultivation function, liaising closely with the Stewardship and Events team to ensure a seamless supporter journey, and with the Press team to include media volunteers.

· Manage the recruitment process of new ARUK volunteers in the geographical area, providing relevant support and training.

· Liaise with local community organisations (e.g., golf clubs, educational institutions etc.) – both previous and new potential supporters – to extend income and activity in line with the strategy.

· Initiate and roll out community fundraising events in the geographical area with evidence of effective ROI and achievement of strategic goals.

· Provide face-to-face talks and presentations to community organisations for recruitment/ cultivation purposes.

· Arrange appropriate volunteer representation at events in the community (for example, for cheque collections and talks), spreading the charity’s reach cost-effectively.

· Identify, research and target prospective community organisations, in liaison with CFM.

· Identify, research and target prospective local corporates in liaison with CFM / HORF and ARUK’s Partnership Development Managers and Partnership Development Officers, in line with both community and corporate strategies.

· Accurately track and record contact with both community and corporate prospects for planning and reporting purposes.

Monitoring and Reporting

· Ensure that your activity is monitored and evaluated, clearly communicating progress to your Community Fundraising Manager.

· Manage relevant information on the charity’s database, keeping detailed, up-to-date records of activity and income.

What we are looking for:

· Experience in partnership fundraising and/or relationship-building.

· Experience in public speaking, such as giving presentations and talking at events.

· Knowledge of recruiting key volunteers and fundraising supporters.

· Experience and a keen interest in building long-term relationships with supporters.

· Proven ability to provide excellent stewardship.

When a person or their family member sustains a spinal cord injury it is a life changing experience. They can experience a huge drop in confidence, lose their independence and can feel isolated and that no one understands what they’re going through. Back Up was started by volunteers and our volunteers remain at the heart of everything we do, including shaping and delivering our range of services.

The Volunteer Development Assistant will be the main point of contact for volunteer enquiries and requests and will work across Back Up to understand volunteer needs in order for the volunteer team to grow and support delivery of our life changing services. We're seeking an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join our team in the role of Brent Service Coordinator. This position plays a pivotal role in the development and delivery of our unique, beloved 1:1 sessions for children with additional needs. We're looking for someone who is not only self-motivated and highly organised but also possesses experience working with disabled children in various settings, including play, educational, or social care, with a specific focus on autism and learning disabilities. Your passion for providing top-quality activity and support services to our children and families is paramount.

Every week during term time, children aged 5-11 attend our 90-minute KEEN London sports and games sessions, where they receive personalised support from our dedicated team of volunteer coaches. Our Brent site is the newest addition to the KEEN London community and you'll play a crucial role in its continual development. We have just completed our two year pilot and are looking for a candidate to build on this foundation.  As the Brent Service Coordinator, you'll be solely responsible for the front line delivery of the Brent service: planning, safety, and creating a fun and inclusive environment for all. This will involve working closely with our athletes and their families, supervising our team of volunteer coaches and engaging with the local community.  Additionally, you'll oversee the organisation and execution of off-site trips and contribute to the organisation of our annual residential trip.

Line managing two members of staff, you will ensure our Volunteer team sets and meets their strategic goals, contributing to our organisational priorities. Developing strategies which effectively mobilise our volunteers to drive campaigning work, you’ll ensure volunteers make the biggest possible impact for animals whilst remaining engaged and supported.

This role reports into the Head of Programs, while working closely with the rest of the THL UK team.

Hours:

This is a temporary 12 month maternity cover, full-time position over Monday to Friday.

From 1st July 2024 we are piloting a four day working week across the whole of the UK organisation. This pilot is planned to run for 12 months, at which point a decision will be made by our Board of Trustees as to whether this will become permanent. Success of the trial relies on the organisation being able to achieve the same or improved level of impact in four working days as five, with staff experiencing either the same or improved levels of wellbeing. 

During the four day week pilot, working hours for this position will be reduced to 30 hours per week, spanning Monday to Thursday, with no reduction in salary. This will be a temporary change to the contractual terms for the successful candidate. The appointed person must be prepared to increase their working hours to 37.5 hours per week if a return to a five-day working week is decided. In the event that THL UK considers before the end of the trial period that the trial is having an adverse operational impact, we reserve the right to bring the trial to end on one month’s notice.

Who you are:

Volunteers will be your passion. You’ll have a deep understanding of the importance of this kind of supporter and how to best steward their specific experience and manage their unique needs. You'll understand how to best manage and recruit volunteers, mobilising our UK wide network effectively both remotely and on the ground in order to create change. You’ll know how to best communicate and engage with them in order to make the most out of their time and efforts. You are someone who wouldn’t ask volunteers to do something you wouldn’t do yourself and you’ll ideally have some kind of experience of campaigning in a paid or voluntary capacity (e.g. attending protests).

Someone with previous line management experience is desirable, as you’ll need to be able to effectively manage and lead your team of direct reports.

As a member of the Leadership level of the organisation, you’re someone who can meaningfully contribute to organisation wide decision making, thinking holistically and strategically across teams.

As the manager and leader of your team, you’ll have demonstrable experience of organising several deliverables or projects, which involve multiple teams, at any one time.

You can forward think strategically and collaboratively, considering the volunteer program as well as the work of other teams, setting realistic timelines with this in mind and meeting deadlines reliably.

You’re adaptable, and can work nimbly, with desirable experience working specifically within a campaign environment in some way, where things can change quickly and unexpectedly.

You’re someone who can keep your cool in challenging situations, being able to problem solve and reprioritise with ease to lead your team to success, even when things change at the last minute. You are able to continually evaluate and identify areas of improvement for the volunteer program, recognising key opportunities to evolve and adapt for the best possible impact for animals.

Home based, you’ll have a strong ability to work independently, but you’re also someone who can work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Duties:

Management

Manages the Lead Grassroots Campaigns Coordinator and the Volunteer Program Administrator

• Ensures staff receive the training, resources and support to do their jobs effectively, encouraging the professional development of individual team members

• Manages and leads the Volunteer team to achieve agreed goals

• Develops volunteering goals, in collaboration with the Programs department, and is responsible for timely reporting and tracking of these

• Sets/clarifies job expectations and provides regular feedback, guidance and support to your team

• Empowers staff in the ongoing delivery of their work, from development of strategies and techniques through to successful day to day outputs

• Manages time off requests and approval of expenses for the Volunteer team members

• Manages overarching budget for Volunteer team

Strategy

• Develop and manage all plans and overarching strategy for our Volunteer team, including volunteer stewardship, recruitment and grassroots activism on the ground, ensuring the day to day is delivered effectively by the team

• Work together with the Head of Programs to develop and guide THL UK Volunteer strategy and activities, identifying key priorities and strategies to further the program

• Be an active member of the Programs department Leadership team, working closely with other managers within programs and the Head of Programs to deliver department goals

• Be an active member of the wider Leadership team across the organisation, contributing to organisation level decisions and working to ensure effective strategic alignment, ensuring Volunteer work is communicated successfully and opportunities for collaboration maximised

• Analyse & report on the effectiveness of activities delivered by the team, including timely goal reporting, feeding into funding proposals and more

• Observe and work with other organisations to learn new approaches and share/coordinate strategies, making connections with other organisations as required

Volunteering

• Lead our volunteer program to ensure our volunteers take action with us and remain engaged

• Ensure the Volunteer team organise effective and engaging actions and opportunities for our volunteers which contribute to our campaigns, working particularly closely with the Campaigns team

• Determine overarching training strategy, recruitment and internal processes for the volunteer program as a whole, with supporter experience at the heart

• Oversee our volunteering policies and procedures and their successful implementation, including regular reviews

• Ensure volunteering remains at the heart of what we do, you identify a diverse range of opportunities for our volunteers to get involved with across the entire organisation which ultimately contribute to campaign success, and high satisfaction amongst the volunteers themselves

In addition:

• Attend conferences, events, protests and actions as required

• Participate in team meetings including leading, note-taking and facilitation.

• Attend in-person workshops several times a year.

• Help us make THL UK an inclusive workplace where employees and supporters are proud to be members of the movement

Who: We are looking for an experienced, self-starting Finance Manager for the Central Foundation Schools of London, a charity supporting two state schools in London, with investments and endowments in the region of £40m.

Responsibilities: The Finance Manager will be responsible through the CEO to the Board, for day-to-day management of the charity’s accounts and all financial operations. They will manage the financial record keeping, payroll, pensions, banking and oversee the tracking of Foundation’s investments and income. The postholder will provide accurate financial management information, including quarterly cashflow forecasting and management accounts and co-ordinating the annual budget setting process.  They will be responsible for preparing the annual accounts to the required standards and overseeing the annual audit process. They will also provide advice on a range of operational issues to ensure sound asset management, value for money and compliance with statutory requirements relevant to the charity’s financial operations. They will contribute to the shared leadership of the organisation including collaborating on the implementation of the Foundation’s strategy.

Our Work: For over 150 years, the Central Foundation Schools of London has supported two schools in inner London. Between them, the Girls’ School at Bow Road, Tower Hamlets and the Boys’ School is based in Cowper Street, Islington provide places to over 2,500 young people. Today, the Foundation continues to benefit students at these two schools while also supporting the schools to strengthen the opportunities, facilities and educational excellence for current and future students.

Our People: We are a small team with three part time staff managing the day to day work of the Foundation.  A Board of 18 trustees/directors volunteer their time and skills and collaborate closely with the small staff team. In 2022 the Board started a process of transformation and modernisation of the charity’s operations and processes. In 2023, alongside refreshing our governance, supporting two major building programmes and updating our financial operations, we established our first strategy addressing how we can best support the Schools over the next decade and more. 

The Role: To support the exciting opportunities presented by the new strategy, Central Foundation Schools for London are recruiting a permanent Finance Manager to provide professional management of the charity’s accounts, ensuring the charity’s operational effectiveness and efficiency, accurate financial management information and advice, preparation of the annual budget, management of our investment portfolio as well as compliance with statutory for the production of the Annual Statutory Accounts in compliance with latest SORP and legislation.

Experience: We are looking for a fully qualified accountant with good post-qualification experience with the ability to work independently and lead the charity’s financial operations.

Role overview

The Partnership Manager will oversee and deliver account management across our mentoring partnership portfolio. This role involves managing the partner experience across a range of sectors, including higher education, the third sector, schools and corporate partnerships. The post-holder will be responsible for onboarding new partners, supporting them in developing their yearly mentoring plans, engaging in regular communications to ensure we’re on track with our deliverables, and renewing contracts annually. Success in this role will be measured by key performance indicators such as partner satisfaction, partner engagement and meeting renewal income targets.

• Complete annual mentoring project plans with all partners
• Provide account management for partners to ensure a positive experience
