The role of a Trustee
Board members have overall legal responsibility for BTO, ensuring financial, regulatory and monitoring performance. BTO provides induction and training opportunities to all Trustees to support them in fulfilling their role. Time Commitment
Being a trustee is a commitment and we aim to be upfront about what it involves. We provide a calendar of meetings and engagements to all trustees at the start of the year. As an overview, annual meetings and engagements include 5 Board meetings, 1 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and sub committee meetings if you are interested in serving on a subcommittee. There will also be an induction period which takes approximately 10 hours in total but some parts are done independently at times that suit you (like the reading and eLearning).
Expenses
This is a voluntary, unpaid position. Travel and accommodation associated with attending meetings can either be arranged in advance by BTO (so there is no expenditure on the part of the Trustee), or expenses can be reimbursed afterwards.

Role Summary
As a Governance Officer, you will work closely with the Governance Lead to ensure strong governance practices across Roots Academy. Your role will focus on supporting governance frameworks, policies, and compliance measures to align with charity governance requirements and relevant regulations. You will also play a key role in embedding a culture of governance across the organisation.
Key tasks
Trustee Support
- Assist trustees with governance-related tasks and ensure they have access to relevant policies, guidelines, and resources.
- Direct trustees to appropriate regulatory frameworks, best practices, and governance training materials.
Governance & Compliance Support
- Support the onboarding process for new trustees, ensuring all necessary documentation is collected and securely stored.
- Assist in coordinating trustee meetings, including preparation of agendas, accurate minute-taking, and document distribution.

Roots Academy exists to bridge this gap by providing a structured and transformative Islamic education that speaks directly to the needs and challenges of young Muslims today, delivered in an engaging and accessible form that removes barriers to access and provokes thought and action.
Role Summary.
As a Graphic Designer, you will be instrumental in shaping the visual identity of Roots Academy UK. From designing educational resources and social media assets to crafting digital campaigns and event materials, your work will ensure our content reflects excellence, clarity, and spiritual depth. You will help bring Islamic learning to life through purposeful, polished, and impactful design.
Key tasks

Design Development: Create visually compelling graphics for use across social media, email, web, presentations, and print.

Brand Consistency: Ensure all visual materials align with Roots Academy’s brand guidelines and Islamic values.

Content Support: Collaborate with the social media and education teams to translate ideas and scripts into polished, engaging visuals.

Template Creation: Build easy-to-edit templates for internal teams to use (e.g., Canva or Google Slides).

Trend Awareness: Stay up to date on design and content trends, especially within the faith-based and youth development space.

Project Management: Maintain organized design files and deliver work in a timely manner.
What we’re looking for

Strong design portfolio demonstrating creativity, clarity, and alignment with brand guidelines.

Experience using tools like Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Figma.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Email Marketing Officer to support the planning and delivery of email campaigns that engage and inspire our audience. You will be responsible for creating, scheduling, and optimising emails to strengthen communication with students, parents, and supporters. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the email marketing efforts of a growing international education platform.
Key tasks

Design, build, and schedule email campaigns using email marketing tools.

Manage audience segmentation and ensure email lists are accurate and up to date.

Collaborate with copywriters and designers to deliver engaging, on-brand email content.

Conduct A/B tests to improve open rates, click-through rates, and overall performance.

Monitor and report on email campaign performance, suggesting improvements.
