Donkey Welfare Adviser

We now have an excellent secondment opportunity for a dynamic and resourceful individual with a proven track record of community-based animal welfare work, excellent decision-making and time-management skills and a strong customer service ethic to join the team as Donkey Welfare Adviser for South Wales.

Position: Donkey Welfare Adviser

Location: Home based (it is preferable that candidates live centrally within region to gain easy access to travel and communication networks. However, locations close to the defined area may be considered if operationally viable)

Hours: Full-time, working an average of 37.5 hours per week on an annualised hours basis.

Salary: £40,389 per annum

Contract: Fixed term maternity cover contract starting on 14 December 2026 until 3 March 2028

About the Role

Donkey Welfare Advisers are professionals in the field of donkey and mule welfare. They play a key front-line role in the work of the Sanctuary: responding to donkeys in need, supporting donkeys in the community, growing and managing a high-quality rehoming scheme, and acting as an ambassador for the charity at all times.

Your principal duties and responsibilities will include:

• Promoting good welfare for donkeys and mules by working proactively to support, guide and educate key audiences and by sharing best practice.
• Communicating effectively with groups from all social, racial, and cultural backgrounds, often in highly emotive and sometimes confrontational circumstances.
• Delivering high quality, impactful training to a range of stakeholders in a style suitable to the audience and the resources available.
• Responding to future care enquiries, working creatively to identify suitable alternatives to sanctuary care where appropriate, and gathering and co-ordinating relevant information to inform donkey placement decisions and help owners make informed choices for their donkeys, including end of life decisions.
• Supporting a good quality rehoming scheme by ensuring donkeys are placed in the most suitable environments for their needs.
• Working proactively to prevent/alleviate suffering, referring to and/or collaborating with enforcement agencies when necessary.
• Providing reliable evidence for welfare investigation cases, including witness statements and other relevant evidence in court compliant formats, and attending court to give evidence as required.

About You

You will be a positive influencer able to promote and model our values in all areas of your work, with a high level of equine knowledge with significant experience of working with equines.

You will also have:

• A working knowledge of legal practicalities and experience of the application of relevant animal welfare legislation.
• An understanding of equine behaviour and demonstrable practical experience in the field.
• Able to influence change and respond appropriately in emotional challenging or confrontational situations.
• Excellent communicator able to deliver advice and training to stakeholder groups with varying experience.
• Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable with making new contacts and able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

As a Benefits & Income Maximisation Adviser, you will manage a varied caseload, providing expert advice across the full range of welfare benefits and financial support available. You will stay informed about changes to welfare legislation, benefit systems and financial support schemes, ensuring your advice remains accurate, relevant and impactful.

Reporting to our new Income Maximisation Manager, key responsibilities will include:

- Provide comprehensive welfare benefits advice and support to beneficiaries experiencing financial difficulties
- Complete benefit entitlement checks and calculations, identifying opportunities to maximise income
- Advise on available grants, discretionary support and financial assistance from government bodies, local authorities, energy providers and charitable organisations
- Support beneficiaries with benefit applications, form completion and signposting to appropriate services
- Produce detailed written advice and maintain accurate case records using case management systems
- Carry out budgeting and income maximisation assessments
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal RBL support services, partner agencies, charities and statutory organisations

You will have proven experience of providing welfare benefits advice and have an in depth knowledge of the UK benefits system, including experience in conducting benefits checks, calculations and budgeting assessments. You will have excellent communication skills, a client focused approach and the ability to build trust with people facing challenging circumstances.

Our support includes independent service reviews and evaluations, delivery of specialist training, and consultancy support to drive meaningful, sustainable improvements.

As the UK’s leading provider of training for Independent Sexual Violence Advisers (ISVAs), we deliver accredited development and continued professional development (CPD) programmes that build confidence, competence, and capability across this specialist workforce.

We are seeking a National ISVA Coordinator(s). The postholder(s) will provide an initial point of contact, undertake initial risk and needs assessment, provide trauma-informed information and support, and coordinate onward referral and handover to appropriate local ISVA and specialist services.

A key focus of the role will be providing initial support to adult and child survivors affected by group-based child sexual abuse and exploitation (GBCSAE), as well as other forms of sexual violence. The role will involve working effectively with police and other agencies, helping individuals navigate complex review, criminal justice and support pathways, while promoting choice, control and informed decision-making.

The role is a national coordination function and is not intended to replace ongoing local ISVA casework where appropriate local provision is available.

About the Role

The Head of Community Services is a senior leadership role responsible for the operational, and clinical delivery of Nottinghamshire Hospice’s community-based services. You will ensure the provision of high-quality, safe, and compassionate palliative and end-of-life care, supporting people to live as well as possible in the place they call home.

As a key member of the Hospice Leadership Team, you will provide visible and inspiring leadership, driving excellence in care delivery, service performance, and workforce development. This role combines strong operational management with professional clinical leadership, requiring an experienced registered healthcare professional with a sound understanding of palliative and end-of-life care.

You will lead and develop our Hospice in Your Home (24-hour service) and Wellbeing Day Services, ensuring they are responsive, sustainable, and patient-centred. The role involves regular travel across Nottinghamshire and participation in the clinical on-call rota (approximately one week in every five weeks).
