World Cancer Research Fund champions the latest and most authoritative scientific research from around the world on cancer prevention and survival through diet, weight and physical activity, so that we can empower people to make informed lifestyle choices to reduce their cancer risk.
We are seeking a dynamic, experienced Director who will be responsible for the work of the charity within the UK. The Director will be the strategic and day to day leader of the UK organisation and will also work hands-on not only with his/her direct reports but also all teams in the office. We are seeking a leader who can take the UK charity’s fundraising to new heights; thus, this is a particularly important focus area.
The role will be directly overseeing the World Cancer Research Fund UK’s Fundraising and Health Information Departments. You will report to the CEO and work in partnership with the UK CEO and other senior executives in updating and implementing the organisation’s strategy and objectives.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience of directing and leading a similar sized UK philanthropic organisation (or a fundraising team within a larger charity), including writing and implementing strategies and evaluating outcomes. You will have proven experience of delivering fundraising objectives as well as a strong track record in communications and up to date knowledge of social media and digital strategies. Substantial experience of management of teams at both strategic and tactical level including developing skills, abilities, performance management and confidence in staff is required as are high level speaking skills.

About the role:
This role is responsible for developing and expanding the membership offerings of LFBF, including chartered and corporate memberships, while also overseeing bursaries, scholarships, and awards. The position involves cultivating senior-level relationships with key clients, with Profit & Loss responsibilities for charity funds, and contributing to strategic decisions as part of the Senior Leadership team. Additionally, the role-holder will drive the integration of the Centre for the Study in Financial Innovation (CSFI) into our broader strategy, ensuring alignment and successful implementation.
This is an exciting strategic leadership role which enjoys both the flexibility of hybrid working and flexible part-time hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Creating and implementing strategies to promote LFBF's chartered and membership, while exploring and building new revenue streams.
- Managing and growing relationships with UK and international banks and financial services providers, seeking sponsorships and partnerships to support our objectives.
- Developing a strategy for integrating CSFI into LFBF, including launching and promoting CSFI events and managing its brand through digital channels.
- Identifying and establishing partnerships with educational institutions and organisations to facilitate scholarships, bursaries, internships, and specialist qualifications.
- Leading presentations to secure commercial commitments, gathering market feedback, and contributing to the development of LFBF’s brand identity.
- Taking responsibility for the profit and loss for LFBF’s training arm, LFBF Learning Ltd., and ensuring alignment with LFBF’s strategic growth plans.
You will have:
- Worked in a senior business development role, preferably at Director level.
- Proven experience in successfully developing and implementing strategic marketing and business development plans.
- Demonstrated the ability to manage and grow a portfolio of clients, with a focus on building long-term relationships.
- Experience in developing and managing partnerships with educational institutions, professional bodies, and securing sponsorships for events.
- Previous experience managing a profit and loss statement for a business unit or department.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and effectively manage projects.
- Excellent communication, presentation, influencing, and negotiation skills, with a strong ability to collaborate with and persuade stakeholders at all levels.

This role is all about leadership and strategy development and implementation. You’ll lead your team to new heights of success, providing expert and unwavering support.
You’ll spearhead the development of your region and country’s community fundraising programme. Innovating, adapting and learning, this role will build sustainable income from new audiences and loyal supporters.
This dynamic role will see you lead on a range of activities such as marketing, supporter thanking, reward and recognition and supporter engagement events. You’ll also manage the community fundraising operations team, who are responsible for mass market DIY fundraising along with analysis, reporting and fulfilment.
You’ll manage a team of six, including two line reports. You’ll nurture and inspire them to excel in their roles, empowering them to take an active role in how we do things.

Key Responsibilities
·Design and implement a comprehensive activities programme that addresses the social, educational and wellbeing f the community.

·Ensure effective project management practices are consistently applied in your work, fostering efficiency and accountability.

·Work with partners, community-led groups, and representatives across various sectors and organisations to enhance support for community members.
·Develop engaging marketing materials, including leaflets, website content, and social media posts, to ensure our services are widely advertised and accessible to a diverse audience.
·Oversee all administrative aspects of project activities and coordinate volunteer and staff schedules.

Key information
Salary: £37,000 – 39,000 per annum (pro rata £31,700 to £33,400)
