We are seeking an experienced and passionate Safeguarding Manager to lead and strengthen safeguarding practice across our organisation.
This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in ensuring that children, young people and adults at risk are protected, supported and empowered through robust safeguarding processes, effective case oversight and a culture of continuous learning.
Working closely with senior leaders, managers and safeguarding representatives, you will provide both strategic leadership and operational expertise, ensuring safeguarding remains at the heart of everything we do.
As our Safeguarding Manager, you will be the organisation’s operational lead for safeguarding, providing expert advice and oversight across a wide range of services including housing, counselling, helpline, outreach, retail, volunteer programmes and national office functions.
You will:
- Lead safeguarding practice across the organisation.
- Review and oversee safeguarding concerns and complex cases.
- Line manage and develop Safeguarding Representatives.
- Monitor safeguarding quality, compliance and organisational risk.
- Produce safeguarding reports and assurance information for senior leaders and trustees.
- Lead safeguarding audits, reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Oversee the effective use of our safeguarding case management system.
- Develop and deliver safeguarding training across the organisation.
- Build strong relationships with statutory and voluntary sector safeguarding partners.
- Ensure policies, procedures and practice remain aligned to current legislation and best practice.
About You
We’re looking for someone with significant safeguarding experience who can confidently provide leadership, challenge and support across a diverse organisation.
You will have:
Essential
- Significant experience managing safeguarding concerns involving children and/or adults at risk.
- Experience supervising safeguarding practitioners or safeguarding leads.
- Strong knowledge of UK safeguarding legislation and multi-agency safeguarding processes.
- Experience developing safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Experience delivering safeguarding training.
- Experience producing reports and presenting information to senior stakeholders.
- Excellent judgement and decision-making skills.
- Strong analytical and organisational abilities.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to influence, coach and support others.
- A relevant professional qualification or substantial equivalent safeguarding experience.
- Safeguarding Level 3 qualification.
Desirable
- Experience within supported housing, health, social care, charity or voluntary sector settings.
- Experience using electronic safeguarding case management systems.
- Advanced safeguarding qualification (Level 4/5 or equivalent).
- Safeguarding Trainer qualification.
- Management qualification.

This permanent, part-time role (30 hours per week) is hybrid, with regular visibility required across Birmingham's 10 Family Hubs. You will lead a dedicated team of 5 Family IDVAs, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality and trauma-informed support to families affected by domestic abuse.

About the role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced IDVA Team Leader to join Birmingham's new Family IDVA Service. This is a part-time role, working 30 hours per week, and offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery and development of an innovative city-wide service supporting parents aged 16+ and their children under 18 who are affected by domestic abuse.
Based within Birmingham's Family Hubs, the service will provide specialist, trauma-informed domestic abuse support to families at the earliest opportunity, helping to prevent escalation of harm and improve safety, resilience and wellbeing. The IDVA Team Leader will help ensure that families receive a flexible, whole-family response, with the voices and needs of both parents and children remaining central to assessment, safety planning and support.
In this role, you will provide leadership and day-to-day support to a team of Family IDVAs, helping to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe and effective services. You will line manage a team of frontline practitioners, providing supervision, coaching, case guidance and performance support, while promoting a positive, confident and resilient team culture. You will also support the Operations Manager with the effective running and development of the service. This will include supporting case allocation, monitoring caseloads, undertaking case reviews and audits, ensuring accurate recording on case management systems, and contributing to performance reporting against service standards, contractual requirements and KPIs. You will use data, quality assurance and learning from practice to help identify trends, strengthen service delivery and support continuous improvement.
You will provide advice and guidance to colleagues around safeguarding, risk and case complexity, ensuring the service prioritises the safety, dignity and individual needs of families. Partnership working will be central to this role. You will work closely with Birmingham Children's Trust, Family Hubs, Early Help, education, health, community organisations and other statutory and voluntary sector partners to strengthen referral pathways, promote access to support and improve coordinated responses for families affected by domestic abuse. You will also contribute to the service's training and engagement offer, helping to build awareness and understanding of domestic abuse amongst professionals across Birmingham's family support system.
