Responsibilities
Along with supporting the coaches to set up & pack away each session, you'll be given first hand experience of coaching 4- 11year olds by working with the coach to learn the following-
Messi-Inspired Technical Development with Efficient Style:
Implement training sessions that draw inspiration from Lionel Messi's efficient style of play, emphasising simple yet effective techniques in ball control, dribbling, and decision-making.
Tailor coaching strategies based on team and individual player assessments, aiming to enhance technical proficiency by encouraging an efficient and easily replicable style inspired by Messi.
Highlight Messi's style of play as not only effective on the field but also accessible and easy to emulate, fostering a culture of simplicity and effectiveness.
Aggression and Determination in Physical Development (4 Corner Model):
Infuse aggression and determination into physical training plans with Maestro & Hunter, aligning with the 4 Corner Model to address players' physical well-being in relation to psychological/technical improvement .
Collaboratively implement fitness regimes that not only enhance physical attributes but also instil a mindset of determination and tenacity in each player.
Psychological Resilience and Embracing Healthy Competition (Coaches Triangle):
Integrate psychological resilience training into coaching methodologies with Maestro & Hunter, focusing on mental strength, stress management, and a growth mindset, (captains mentality).
Embrace and encourage healthy competition within the team, fostering a competitive spirit that drives individual and collective improvement.

Are you ready for an exciting adventure? We’re looking for 20 enthusiastic young people to join us as Young Leaders (NCOs) in London for our new uniformed youth organisation called RANGER CADETS.
We are the Ranger Cadets a brand new independent non-profit uniformed youth group that is being set up with an aim of getting young people engaged in their community in uniform, as well as upskilling them to unlock their full potential by providing skills for life, opportunities to get involved in the community and gain new experiences as part of a team, making our community a much better place.
We are a non-political and non-religious inclusive uniformed youth organisation that is open and welcoming to everyone regardless of their social background.

What is the process?
You will take part in our training programme with other young people for the role. You have a choice of two groups;
Group 1: Fast Track (2 weekends of 6 hours each day = 4 days in total)
- Weekend 1 (Recruit Weekend) You will earn your uniform at the end of this weekend.
- Weekend 2 (NCO Course Weekend) You will earn the rank of Senior Cadet at the end of this weekend
Group 2: Training (12 evenings of 2 hours each evening = 3 months in total)
- Week 1 to 6 (Recruit) You will earn your uniform at the end of week 6.
- Week 6 to 12 (NCO Course) You will earn the rank of Senior Cadet at the end of week 12.
During this training you will be assessed to which level would suit you and your skills and abilities based on your active participation, skills and abilities. We have 3 young leadership levels, which include;
- Level 1: Senior Cadet / (you will lead and coach a small group of cadets (young people) at the unit.
- Level 2: Corporal // (you will lead and coach large groups of young people (cadets and senior cadets) at the unit and take on leadership duties at the unit.
- Level 3: Sergeant /// (you will lead all young people at the unit and assist the Unit Officers in running the cadet unit each week).
If you show great promise on the NCO Induction and you are aged between 18 and 25 years old, you will have the opportunity to attend further training to obtain one of the following ranks;
- Level 4: Staff Sergeant (This person is second in charge of a cadet unit and you will support the Officer in Charge in running a cadet unit).
- Level 5: OIT (Officer In Training) - (You will shadow our Officer in Charge and learn how to run a cadet unit and within 3-6 months you will take on the role of Officer In Charge of a new or exisitng cadet unit).

This volunteer role involves being available for a mix of weekly drop-in IT sessions in which you will provide ‘floating support’ as well as pre-arranged one-to-one sessions in order to help clients complete more specific tasks relevant to them.
Digital Inclusion provides a crucial resource, helping people to take positive steps to improve their lives, by overcoming digital exclusion, accessing learning and securing work. In an average session, clients undertake independent learning and tasks, such as; completing searches on the internet, formatting documents and using email, paying bills, filling in forms etc
Increasingly, clients are asking for help with social media platforms, such as; logging into Facebook account, creating a LinkedIn profile or Instagram account to promote their business, or help with blogging.
How does this role make a difference?
All of life’s activities - including job seeking, accessing and managing benefits and housing - take place online. Clients without IT skills are hugely disadvantaged. This role provides clients with support, helping them to overcome initial fears or learning barriers. With increasing confidence, they will be able to access the internet independently.
Who will you be helping?
Users are adults from diverse backgrounds and can range from those who are complete computer beginners, learning the basics of IT, to those needing access to the resource for learning, job search or managing household finances. The service helps clients seeking to address digital skills gaps and improve their confidence in order to access the internet.
What will you be doing?
- Meeting clients and carrying out weekly, one-to-one coaching sessions
- For the remaining time, offering ‘floating support’ to other clients, such as completing searches on the internet, formatting documents and using email
· Helping new clients to complete an IT Initial Basic Skills Assessment
What are we looking for?
- Although advanced technical skills are not required, a good understanding of MS Office (Word and Excel mostly) and a breadth of experience in using the internet are essential in order to coach and help vulnerable clients develop their skills.
- The confidence and willingness to work closely with clients and actively approach them where required.
· You have some experience assisting or coaching others.
· You are patient, a good listener and have the ability to motivate others.
· You are available for a period of at least six months to give you time to develop a rapport and fulfil learning objectives with the clients.
What is the time commitment?
We are looking to have open access sessions for clients twice a week, days will depend on your availability. one-to-one sessions can be arranged to fit with these days.
We are asking for a 6 months commitment to enable you to build trusting relationships with clients and develop in your role. Volunteers find this goes very quickly!
How will you be supported?
· There is ongoing support by the Learning and Employment Manager.
· Free access to a range of e-learning modules on the Centre’s online e-learning platform
· You will be reimbursed for reasonable and agreed ‘out-of-pocket’ expenses such as travel, and also lunch if volunteering a full day.

Your Role
Unfold are currently looking for volunteers who can mentor on our children and young people’s programme for those(aged 10-25). Being trained to use a psychological approach, you will empower our mentee to get to where they want to be, through achieving our aims of boosting Confidence, building lasting Independence and Connecting mentees with 1 or more organisation.
What will I be doing?
As a mentor on our young peoples programmes, your support will:
- Empower your mentee to help them achieve and identify goals to get them where they want to be, through encouraging your mentee to consider future options and assist them in developing strategies to attain their goals.
- Develop a trusting, supportive and non-judgemental relationship, to support them through their challenges by providing emotional, social and practical support to boost confidence and independence.
- Support your mentee to make social connections with their local community, services or groups and refer and signpost them to other organisations providing more specialist support if needed.
What impact will this have?
- By becoming a mentor with Unfold, you will be supporting those who often face exclusion, this as, although we are open to everyone, 93% of our service users are from racialised groups, 60% of our referrals come from other supporting service and we have also adapted our services to support Afghan evacuees
- With the opportunity to be a mentor for a young person on our Asylum Seeker programme, you will be a welcoming and reliable person of support in often difficult and challenging times, supporting the navigation of achieving goals in new environment.
- With 89% of the young people we work with saying that having a mentor has improved their life, your skills and experiences are needed and will have a positive impact.
Commitment
- We ask volunteers to commit to delivering mentoring1–2-hour a week, over a period of 24 sessions. Through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person session should this be the required need of your mentee.
- Attend monthly online group supervisions held weekday evenings. Supervisions are a great place to meet other mentors, share skills and ideas around mentoring, hear from organisation who can enhance your mentoring experience as well get support with the challenges you may face.
Training
- We provide training based in positive psychology building skills that are transferrable, such as empathic leadership, coaching-style approaches, the growth mindset, mentoring, inclusion and more and an additional 1 hour training for mentors supporting asylum seekers.
- Throughout your mentoring journey, we’re always on hand to help, with ongoing support from a designated Programme Officer, as well as a range of tailored resources.

Unfold
We work with young people aged 10 – 25, and mothers with children aged 5+ offering one-to-one support from trained and supervised volunteer mentors, who empower our mentees to get to where they want to be, through achieving our aims of boosting Confidence, building lasting Independence and Connecting mentees with 1 or more organisation.
What will I be doing?
As a mentor on our pupil referral programme, working with a young person between the ages of 11-16 you will
- Meet together on a weekly basis at your mentees school, encouraging and motivating your mentee to make steps towards positive change.
- Being understanding to the range of behavioural, emotional and learning difficulties your mentee may have, you will exert patience and commitment, putting the needs of your mentee first when working together to identify goals that matter to them, and work together to create strategies and steps towards achieving such goals.
- Inspire your mentor to see challenges as opportunity, broadening their horizons as to what they can achieve.
- Building a trusting relationship, you will create a safe space for your mentor to be actively listened to and heard without judgement.
- You will have fun, as you laugh, reflect and overcome challenges together, igniting imagination, and being inspired by your mentee as you join on their journey to positive change.
What impact will this have?
- Pupils in a pupil referral unit, have been permanently or temporarily removed from their mainstream school due to different challenges, often resulting in experiencing one or more of the following; low self esteem, low attainment levels, friendship breakdown, feeling misunderstood and lacking in purpose, direction and motivation. In addition, they are often experiencing/experienced family breakdown, peer pressure, rebellious behaviour, family issues and concerns or bulling. Beneath all of this is a young person who needs someone who can put them first, who deserves to not only know but believe that despite the challenges they face, they can overcome and achieve. This is where mentoring can help, although not always easy, we have seen positive change in the lives of young people through our mentoring. We have seen young people’s confidence increase, changes in future aspirations, positive and healthy relationships being built, a new outlook on life and beautiful smiles. You can be that someone in a young persons life that perhaps you wish you had, someone who can inspire, support and motivate a young person to believe they can achieve and support them to Unfold their journey to positive change. All you need is time, commitment and we’ll help you with the rest.
Commitment
- 1–2-hour a week, over a period of 24 sessions. For this programme you will meet during school hours, in most cases, for a minimum of 4 weeks. The programme is designed for sessions to begin within school whilst you build your relationship, with an aim to move your sessions to be held outside of school hours, and depending on the need of your mentee, session may then be in person, virtually or a mixture of both. Through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person session should this be the required need of your mentee.
- Attending monthly group online supervision sessions, 6:00-7:00pm every second Thursday of the month. Our group supervision sessions delivered by Unfold staff provide a space for further training, sharing of opportunities and a space for mentors to support each other through their mentoring journeys.
Training
- Mentors are required to complete two stages of training as follows:. 1) Independent online training covering topics around safeguarding, confidentiality, the person-centred approach, the growth mindset, mentoring, inclusion, maintaining professional boundaries and more. 2) Coaching and Mentoring Live online training - delivered by our Programme Officers, givng you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the role of a mentor, by going into greater depth of the independent online modules, giving room for role play and discussion.
- Mentors have a designated Programme Officer, offering 1-2-1 support when you need it.
What else do I need to know?
- A DBS check is required
- You will need to welcome supporting young people with a wide range of abilities and from a range of diversities.
- This role is not aimed to improving academic attainment and although we work with our partner pupil referral units, Unfold mentoring is independent from the school other than for reporting and safeguarding reasons. This role does not intend to support in the increase of understanding and skills in the education system. .

Unfold
We work with young people aged 10 – 25, and mothers with children aged 5+ offering one-to-one support from trained and supervised volunteer mentors, who empower our mentees to get to where they want to be, through achieving our aims of boosting Confidence, building lasting Independence and Connecting mentees with 1 or more organisation.
What will I be doing?
- You will be mentoring a Black or Brown person aged between 10 -25. We’ve seen the positive impact on young Black and Brown people when they have a mentor who they can relate to, who shares and understands their experience.
- Many of the young people we work with are at greater risk of experiencing exclusion as they are often referred to us from other supporting services and are of a low-income single parent family. The majority of young people we support are Black and Brown which further increases the likelihood of experiencing exclusion. Being a mentor who can relate to their experience as Black or Brown person you will support your mentee to help them to achieve and identify goals, supporting them to get to where they want to be. You will encouraging your mentee to consider future options, and assist them in achieving their goals, helping to navigate the barriers to inclusion.
- With the additional qualities of relatability and understanding, you will develop a trusting, supportive and non-judgemental relationship, by providing emotional, social and practical support to boost confidence and independence.
- You will support your mentee to make social connections with their local community, services or groups.
What impact will this have?
- You will contribute to making the voices of our Black and Brown Youth Advisory Council members, to not only be heard, but to be a reality. They told us that diversity in mentoring matters, and they want to see more of it. They felt that having mentors who look like them brings a different approach, relatability and understanding to their mentoring experience.
- With 9 out of 10 of the young people we work with saying that having a mentor has significantly improved their life, your skills and experiences are needed and will have a positive impact.
- We have a waiting list of young people looking for someone like you. You can be that someone in a young persons life that perhaps you wish you had, someone who can inspire, support and motivate a young person who looks like or identifies with you. All you need is time, commitment and your own experience of life, and we’ll help you with the rest.
Commitment
- We ask volunteers to commit to delivering mentoring1–2-hour a week, over a period of 24 sessions. Through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person sessions should this be the required need of your mentee.
- Attend monthly online group supervisions held weekday evenings. Supervisions are a great place to meet other mentors, share skills and ideas around mentoring, hear from organisation who can enhance your mentoring experience as well get support with the challenges you may face
Training
- Mentors are required to complete two stages of training as follows:. 1) Independent online training covering topics around safeguarding, confidentiality, the person-centred approach, the growth mindset, mentoring, inclusion, maintaining professional boundaries and more. 2) Coaching and Mentoring Live online training - delivered by our Programme Officers, givng you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the role of a mentor, by going into greater depth of the independent online modules, giving room for role play and discussion.
- Mentors have a designated Programme Officer, offering 1-2-1 support when you need it.

- A DBS check is required
- In person sessions will take place near to where your mentee lives, within Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea boroughs.

KEEN London Volunteer Coach
KEEN London is a small but growing charity. Our vision is that every child has the chance to enjoy games and leisure activities and none are left behind due to disability.
We provide free games and activity sessions with tailored support for children with additional needs and disabilities. We support over 100 children, known as our ‘athletes’, with a wide range of additional needs, including autism, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, and global development delay. At KEEN London, we strive to use fun and games to improve young people's wellbeing, and personal, social and emotional development as well as broadening experiences to increase skills and confidence.
During a typical KEEN London session, you’ll provide one-to-one support to an athlete, helping them to access all the activities on offer, achieve their personal development goals, and of course have tons of fun! You can expect to get involved with a wide range of playground games, ball games, nature walks, and creative activities. From time to time we also run trips for our athletes, and previous trips have included trampoline parks, high ropes courses, pedalo boating and slime-making classes.

About the opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Smart Works Newcastle Board of Trustees.
As part of the annual Smart Works Female Unemployment Index, it was established that in 2023 the average age of a Smart Works Newcastle client is 37. Consequently, the Board is seeking a new trustee who will help raise greater awareness about the Smart Works service with young women across Newcastle and the North East.
The Young Women’s Trustee will lead the development of understanding the needs of Smart Works Newcastle’s younger clients aged 16 to 25 years (these being unemployed, NEET or in danger of becoming NEET, and those leave the care system) and become a recognised and valued advocate for this community across Newcastle and the North East.
The successful candidate will develop new and existing connections with referral partners who support young unemployed women, develop a marketing plan and social media content to better reach and communicate with this audience, and build relationships with corporate partners and grant funders who support this community. The candidate will also have the opportunity to connect with policy makers whose focus is on improving the employment outcomes for young women across Newcastle and the North East.
The Young Women’s Trustee will bring experience, insights and enthusiasm, and on occasions may also be required to design and drive specific improvement initiatives.
The time commitment is approx. a half a day every two weeks, but there will be occasions when more time is required during busy periods. The Young Person’s Trustee will be required to sit on relevant task force groups as and when their experience is relevant and attend (and prepare for) Board meetings every quarterly.
Please note, no previous trustee experience is required as a thorough induction and training programme will be provided. The trustee will also receive a board buddy, a fellow Smart Works Young Women’s Trustee, for ongoing support.
Trustees are appointed to serve initially for three years, with the potential to be reappointed up to a further two terms (maximum nine years). This is a voluntary role, however out of pocket expenses can be reimbursed. All appointments are subject to satisfactory references and a basic DBS check.
General Duties of a Smart Works Trustee
- Work with the Chair of the Board of Trustees to ensure the centre is well-run and governed effectively.
- Provide support to determine the strategic direction of the Centre.
- Advocate for the Centre, raising its profile and the awareness of the Smart Works service in the geographic area.
- Build strong working relationships with the Chair, fellow trustees, staff, volunteers and supporters.
- Work in a small team and tailor strong interpersonal and communication skills to all levels of seniority.
Personal Specification
The Young Women’s Trustee will use their skills and experience to amplify the voices of Smart Works Newcastle’s younger clients and successfully network with key employment and skills programme providers, third sector, and 16+ educational organisations that exist across Newcastle and the North East.
Lived experience of unemployment and overcoming barriers at a young age, and / or experience supporting social value or youth unemployment projects is preferred, but not essential.
The successful applicant will demonstrate enthusiasm for developing at board level and will become a real advocate for young women living in socially disadvantaged and minority communities across Newcastle and the North East.

Overview of Trustee duties
- Ensure that the Trust operates in accordance with its Trust Deed and objectives
- Promote the Trust and its charitable objectives
- Support the operation of the Trust by making their particular experience and expertise available to the Chief Executive
- Oversee the operation of the agreed plans during the financial year and hold the Chief Executive and their Leadership Team to account for the delivery of the agreed plans and targets
- Agree the strategy and annual business plans and provide for the long term financial health of the Trust
- Oversee compliance of Company Law and Charity Law, and meet the requirements of the Charity Commission
- To safeguard the good name and values of the Trust • Act as an Ambassador for Brathay
- Be an active member of the Trustee body in exercising its responsibilities and functions, and attend meetings faithfully
Current Board Arrangements:
The Board of Trustees meet four times a year, in person at Brathay Hall. We encourage Trustees to stay overnight the day before at Brathay Hall, to enjoy a meal together. There is also a sub-committee to the Board, the Finance and Risk Committee that meets 2-3 weeks before each Board meeting, and these meetings are virtual.
