Volunteer roles

Hopian is looking for volunteers to be the first point of contact for anyone who gets in touch with our Helpline for those affected by Domestic Abuse and Child Sexual Exploitation.

Hopian is a registered charity that provides advice and support for adults and children who have experienced Domestic Violence and Abuse through the provision of refuge accommodation and community support services.  We also provide support and access to counselling for people affected by Child Sexual Exploitation.

What the role entails:

• Answer inbound calls and respond to general enquiries to help people understand our service and the next steps.
• Take safe contact details and record brief notes so our staff can follow up efficiently.
• Triage and signpost using clear guidance, escalating any higher-risk or complex concerns to a staff member.
• Support email responses to straightforward enquiries and referrals, using agreed templates and safecontact practices.
• Contact people at the end of their support to gather feedback, helping us improve our services and ensure everyone feels heard and valued.

What we are looking for:

• Clear and confident communication, spoken and written,
• Active listening and empathy, with the ability to stay calm under pressure,
• Good judgement about boundaries and confidentiality (you will always have a staff member to escalate to),
• Basic digital skills for call notes and email replies.

Training, supervision & support

You will receive a structured induction, role-specific training, and ongoing group supervision, plus access to the Volunteer Handbook and a supportive team environment.

Recruitment process

Once you submit your CV and covering letter, it will be reviewed and shortlisted against the role criteria. If your application meets the requirements, you will be invited to an interview.

Applicants who are successful at the interview will receive a conditional offer, subject to standard checks. These include identity verification, two satisfactory references, and, where required for the role, a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

We will keep you informed at each stage and will advise you of induction dates once we have made a conditional offer.

Before starting your role, you will need to attend all required induction and role-specific training. Some sessions may fall outside your usual weekly volunteering schedule, particularly in the early stages of onboarding. We ask for a commitment to attend the full training programme so that you feel confident and supported in the helpline.

Bridge the Gap Ending Digital Poverty C.I.C is a community interest organisation based in Hackney, dedicated to supporting families, children, and the wider community. We strive to provide an inclusive, non-discriminatory service where everyone feels welcome. We invite you to join our friendly team as a Volunteer Digital Skills Champion and help shape our future. This role will be based in our community hubs, this could be job centres, food banks, libraries etc. If you have 3-6 hours to spare per week, are tech-savvy, and live in or near Hackney, don't miss the chance to support those in need and make a difference!

Role Description

• Must live in or be local to Hackney
• To support residents in basic tech knowledge using digital devices such as Laptops, tablets /Ipads or phones
• To support/guide participants to navigate through their devices safely
• To support residents on a one to one basis weekly
• To Develop and maintain positive relationships with residents enabling them to build confidence
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times
• To support residents to give feedback on what they have learnt
• Understand safeguarding or willing to undertake training
• Knowledge of basic first aid

Commitment

The role requires a weekly commitment of around 3-6 hours on a weekly basis.

Key tasks

• Lead volunteer recruitment efforts by sourcing, attracting, and engaging qualified candidates aligned with organizational values and needs
• Identify and develop strategic outreach channels by researching and recommending platforms, communities, and locations to advertise open positions
• Conduct initial resume screenings and candidate evaluations to assess qualifications, experience, and role fit prior to advancing applicants to interview stages

The People Operations Coordinator supports the day-to-day administration of the People & Culture function, ensuring smooth onboarding, accurate record-keeping, and a positive volunteer experience. This role plays a key part in maintaining organized people operations while also supporting volunteer engagement and appreciation initiatives.

Key tasks

• Coordinate and schedule onboarding sessions in collaboration with the People Lead
• Maintain accurate records by tracking volunteer training completion and participation
• Upload, organize, and manage personnel documentation within Roots’ Google Drive in accordance with confidentiality and data-handling standards
• Support volunteer engagement by planning and organizing logistics for volunteer appreciation events
• Assist with coordination, communication, and follow-up related to recognition initiatives

What we’re looking for

• Interest or experience in human resources, people operations, administration, or volunteer coordination
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
• Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality

As an Education Specialist, you'll need a background in education, with a high level of teaching proficiency and ability to engage with pedagogical content. You'll write, design and deliver engaging, interactive, and impactful resources and course materials that suit our teachers worldwide.

Your role will include: 

-  Writing courses and educational content for blogs

- Checking and editing current courses to improve educational content 

- Enhancing the educational content provided to our users worldwide

- Leading digital workshops and Q&As

- Contributing and participating in NGO contracts

What We're Looking For

-  Expertise with pedagogy in primary or secondary school

- A PGCE and QTS

- Enthusiasm for teaching, learning, training and education

- Technical proficiency or willingness to learn

- Initiative and willingness to contribute new ideas

- Record in designing high-quality, measurable learning solutions

-  Ability to present complex ideas clearly and creatively.

- An education background is essential.

Come and save vegetables from being wasted at the wholesale markets, turn them into tasty nutritious meals, and help to fight food poverty and food waste.

This is a great chance to learn about the practicalities of sustainability, fight poverty, and of course taste lovely food (Lunch is included!)

Warehouse helper:

What will I be doing?

• Either, picking and sorting through fresh produce at the Wholesale markets
• Some lifting and use of light machinery such as pallet trucks and a bit of data-entry

When?

8am – 2pm weekdays. You do not have to stay for the whole shift - even a couple of hours is helpful

Kitchen helper

What will I be doing?

• Sorting, prepping and chopping produce
• packaging meals and washing up

When?

Shifts are between 10am-3pm on weekdays. You do not have to stay for the whole shift - even a couple of hours is helpful

As the Fundraising Coordinator, you will be responsible for helping create and implementing strategies to fundraise from both existing and new sources (individuals, mosques, grants etc.) with the aim of securing the long-term financial stability of Roots Academy.

Key tasks

Fundraising Planning:

• Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising plans to achieve income goals.
• Identify potential new funding sources and opportunities for income generation.

Campaign Management:

• Plan and oversee fundraising campaigns and events, including direct appeals, online campaigns, and fundraising events at mosques.
• Coordinate with marketing and communications teams to develop compelling fundraising material.

Proposal Development:

• Research trusts, foundations and corporations for grant opportunities.
• Work with the team to develop proposals, supporting with grant writing when needed.

Budget Oversight:

• Work closely with the finance team to monitor fundraising budgets, expenditure, and financial projections.

Donor Relations:

• Support with Donor Communications in activities related to donor relationship management and stewardship.

What we’re looking for

• Experience in organising fundraising campaigns and events, including digital fundraising strategies
• Strong understanding of fundraising principles and techniques, including donor cultivation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate the organisation’s mission and impact to diverse audiences
• Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute effective fundraising plans
• Strong understanding of Islam and the Muslim Community

Warm Hearts Community Support is seeking passionate and committed volunteers to support our 2026 community programmes focused on food outreach, mental wellbeing, and digital upskilling.

This is an opportunity to be part of a purpose-driven organisation supporting individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, emotional challenges, and barriers to employment. 

About The Role

As a volunteer, you will contribute directly to delivering structured community support initiatives designed to restore dignity, build confidence, and create pathways toward independence.

You will work alongside a dedicated team to support individuals at different stages of their journey — from immediate support to long-term empowerment.
 

Key Programme Areas You Will Support
1. Community Food Support & Outreach

• Supporting food distribution events
• Engaging with community members in a respectful and supportive manner
• Assisting with logistics, coordination, and setup of outreach activities

2. Mental Wellbeing & Community Support Sessions

• Supporting safe and welcoming environments for wellbeing sessions
• Assisting with coordination of group discussions and activities
• Signposting individuals to relevant support services where needed

• Assisting participants with basic digital skills (email, job applications, CVs)
• Supporting training sessions and one-to-one guidance
• Encouraging confidence and engagement during learning sessions
