We are looking for a Financial Accountant, to join our busy Finance team on a 12 month fixed term contract as progress our finance transformation journey, including the implementation of a new ERP finance system, Unit 4 (Agresso).
In this role, you will help manage the preparation of the Annual Report and Accounts and statutory returns, quarterly VAT returns, and oversight of monthly accounting processes ensuring that accurate accounts are produced on a timely basis.
You will be responsible for ensuring:
- Thorough testing of finance related end to end processes on Unit 4 ensuring that any issues are captured and resolved as appropriate.

About you

The North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU) tackles serious organised crime across the North West region. The NWROCU carries out investigations into serious and organised crime on behalf of police forces in Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside and North Wales. - Be a Fully qualified CCAB Accountant.
- Have experience of working within a large and complex financial environment; with specific knowledge and experience of fulfilling a budget management role.
- Have advanced communication skills to deal effectively with a variety of potential stakeholders. This includes the ability to challenge devolved budget managers, and budget holders, present and disseminate financial information effectively to nonfinancial officers, and to present both verbal and written reports to Chief Officers and other stakeholders.
- Well-developed analytical skills, and the ability to pro-actively respond to financial issues as they arise.

About the role:
The Finance Administrative Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of effective transaction processing within MAG’S Corporate Finance Department. The role holder will efficiently manage the finance inbox and phone, responding to queries promptly, and escalating issues to the Corporate Finance Manager when necessary. In addition, you will manage the purchase and sales ledger, including registering and posting supplier invoices, maintaining supplier and donor details, raising sales and donor invoices, and ensuring accurate allocation and reconciliation of transactions. Preparing supplier payments, including international payments and BACS payment runs, and liaising with the bank on issues such as recalled payments and compliance investigations are integral parts of this role. Furthermore, you will assist in preparing samples for Grant and Statutory Audits, conduct monthly cash counts and manage the HQ safe cash system, including cash advances, payments, and bank runs.
About you:
The ideal candidate will have proven administration experience and the ability to prioritize work to meet tight deadlines, approaching tasks methodically and thoroughly, remaining calm under pressure and collaborating enthusiastically as part of a team. They should possess basic knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and demonstrate strong numerical and analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail. Effective written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, and the ability to quickly learn bespoke systems are essential.
