We are looking for a motivated individual to join our team as a Money Advice Caseworker. This crucial role involves giving a full range of debt advice; including dealing with emergencies, budgeting advice, debt options and helping with a debt strategy.
You will be ensuring that income is maximised for all clients through the take up of appropriate benefits.
This will enable you to use your professional skills as a Money Advice Caseworker to achieve the best possible outcomes for clients. The project is delivered through a mix of telephone, digital communication channels and face to face appointments held in Wandsworth Foodbank centres.

You will be responsible for successfully developing, monitoring and evaluating our Outreach offer and model to demonstrate impact and input into Day One’s national outreach strategy, supporting roll out to other geographical areas. The caseworker will be based between our two main offices in Peckham and Walworth and will assist with raising awareness and completing benefit claims, advocating on behalf of clients and submitting reviews and appeals. The caseworker will also train a team of volunteers to increase capacity and expertise and will act in a consultancy role for generalist advisers and frontline workers in other agencies in the borough.

Purpose and Scope of the Role
All Caseworkers (Levels 1,2 and 3) will be required to carry out the tasks shown below:
Casework and client care:
• To provide one-to-one specialist advice in immigration and asylum area of law

About the role:
This role will be one of three caseworker roles in our team.
You would be responsible for managing your own casework of applications for financial support at various stages, from the very initial conversations and checking eligibility criteria, through gathering additional support evidence, verifying bank statements, to making and communicating grant decisions.
You will suggest what support is appropriate to our applicants and get cases ready to submit grant applications to our Charity Services Committee.

The role is as much about providing information and a friendly listening ear as signposting people to find more specialist advice.

- Applications for bursary places at our school LVS Ascot.
- Support our volunteer manager by arranging volunteer visits to our applicants.
- Support the team by arranging for weekly and monthly payments to our beneficiaries.
- Dealing with initial email and telephone enquiries and explaining our application process to people who wish to apply.

The role:
The caseworker will be responsible for the delivery of advice. Advice is provided over the telephone and in person. The Refugee and Migrant Forum of Essex and London (RAMFEL) is one of the largest immigration and asylum advice charities in the UK, supporting refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants to access justice. An OISC level 3 accredited organisation, we represent clients at all stages of the immigration and asylum process, up to and including the Upper Tribunal of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber. Purpose of the role
The Refugee and Migrant Forum of Essex and London is an OISC level 3 registered charity, that provides advice to help people access justice. This is a vacant position being filled as a replacement. The role gives an opportunity to assist some of the most vulnerable people in our society. There will be particular focus on working with people who are facing a crisis, providing advice work and support that will take them out of destitution and on a path towards integration.
The position will focus on the following project:
- Assisting Asylum Seekers and Refugees with accessing services to make sure they have adequate support (including housing, benefits, asylum support etc…)
Contract duration: This position is initially offered as a fixed-term contract lasting for 12 months.
Management: This post will report to the Refugee and Asylum Seekers Casework Manager.
Hours of work: The role is primarily a full-time position, requiring 37.5 hours per week. However, for the right candidate, we may consider accommodating part-time working hours. Education/qualifications
- OISC Level 1 qualification or the desire to work towards it is beneficial
Experience/knowledge
- Knowledge and experience in providing high quality advice and advocacy for clients in areas such as asylum support, welfare benefits and housing;

About this key role
Our successful candidate will undertake a broad range of duties, including assessing referred clients, with reference to St Giles Trust assessment practices, and producing support and risk management plans based on these assessments, promoting inter-agency collaboration in the assessment and planning process.
You will ensure that all young people work towards an agreed support plan which is regularly reviewed and adapted to ensure that they meet their individual needs and goals, and deliver a holistic support service that will include social and housing support, accompanying to appointments, education, training and employment options, benefits work, and debt advice.
We will also count on you to build effective relationships with young people involved in the criminal justice system and with referral and regional agencies, whilst closing cases efficiently and positively, identifying a survival plan for the client that will identify agencies that can be used for ongoing support is also an essential duty.
As an organisation that works with children and adults at risk we are committed to safeguarding, protecting, and promoting the safety of our clients. An Enhanced Adult and Child Workforce with Child barred list DBS check is required for all successful applicants.
What we are looking for
- To have worked on an offender-led support project, had personal experience of the criminal justice system, served a prison sentence, or still be serving a prison sentence in a prison within reach of London
- Experience in negotiation with partner agencies to establish links to further aims of the project
- Experience of engaging successfully with challenging people, for example people who have complex needs
- Experience in working in local community-based projects
- A relevant qualification to a good standard, or be working towards one
- A sound knowledge and awareness of the issues faced by our client group
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, both verbal and written

What you'll be doing
Purpose and Scope of the Role
- To provide professional and effective advice and guidance to a broad range of service users of RMC in particular welfare benefits, housing, health and other generalist advice areas and experience of advice work dealing with asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable migrants
- To assist/support the team and the management to meet the needs of the beneficiaries and achieve targets.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Working within the team
- To ensure the professional and organisational requirements are respected and met during the delivery of advice.
- To assist the senior colleagues and Casework Team Manager in order to drive efficiency, quality, systems improvement and target achievement.
Casework and advice
- To offer advice, advocacy and support to service users with various aspects related to their welfare as requested by the management of RMC and funders’ requirements.
- To maintain confidentiality in all dealings with service users and ensure their needs are met in a satisfactory and sensitive manner.
- To provide appropriate support and mentoring to any volunteers under supervision.
- To represent RMC at external meetings and events when required by the senior colleagues.
- To maintain effective working relationships with partners and stakeholders.
Flexibility
In order to deliver the stated aims of for this post, a degree of flexibility is needed and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above, such duties will fall within the scope of the job and be directly related within the appropriate pay grade. The job description will therefore be subject to periodic review with the post holder to ensure it accurately reflects the duties that are being performed.

About the Role:
This role is a hybrid working role and is based at our Whitecross Studios offices, Islington, London for a minimum of one day a week subject to operational demand.
As a Domestic Abuse Service Manager you will be:
- Effectively managing and developing a high quality, innovative and pro-active domestic abuse service for victims and their children, including those at highest risk.
- Managing a team of IDVAs providing regular supervision, case review and support.
- Demonstrating strong leadership and management skills/ experience with a resourceful pro-active attitude and ability to use own initiative.
- Ensuring that services are delivered in accordance with the service specification and performance targets set by the services funders, as well as in line with SafeLives criteria for delivering domestic abuse services. The services will also be in line with Victim Support's policies, IDVA procedures, business process and plan.
- Ensuring that the service prioritises the safety, security and dignity of service users and their children.
- Taking the lead in crisis situations and providing advice and guidance on risk, safeguarding issues and information sharing GDPR concerns.
