Community Alcohol Partnerships (CAP) Adviser for East Anglia and the Midlands

Overview of the role

This is an opportunity to take a leading role in helping to change England’s relationship with alcohol starting with young people. Community Alcohol Partnerships (CAP) is looking to engage the services of a results-oriented consultant with great people skills to set up CAP projects in high harm areas.

The successful applicant will have a track record of building effective partnerships, the people and communication skills to involve and engage a wide range of local stakeholders and the leadership and project management skills to support projects through each phase of their lifecycle including baseline evaluation, action plan delivery, post intervention evaluation and maintenance/sustainment. After a short familiarisation period the successful applicant will be expected to oversee fast-track development of new CAPs in priority areas and take responsibility for all aspects of their management with minimal supervision.

A key requisite of the role will be the ability to forge effective public/private sector partnerships between statutory agencies, schools, youth charities and retailers following the CAP model and evaluation framework. The successful applicant may come from a police, public health, education, local authority or other relevant background.

Key Responsibilities

• Proactively identify opportunities for new CAPs and facilitate set up of new CAPs in priority areas.

• Maintain and oversee the workstreams of pre-existing CAPs across the East of England and East Anglia.

• Ensure that all CAP projects carry out appropriate and timely interventions and evaluate all activity in line with the CAP evaluation toolkit – including a baseline and post intervention evaluation.

• Raise the profile of CAPs in East Anglia and the Midlands and ensure that their impact is recognised by key stakeholders.

Specific duties to include the following:

• Represent CAP at all operational meetings.

• Ensure that Retail of Alcohol Standards Group (RASG) member companies play a full delivery role in each CAP where they operate as businesses.  

• Liaise as appropriate with strategic leads within local enforcement authorities and other partner organisations to initiate and complete agreed actions

• Encourage all projects to achieve positive local media coverage including via social media and regional news/broadcast media.

• Ensure that all projects carry out as a minimum a baseline (pre-CAP) evaluation and post intervention evaluation following the CAP evaluation framework and project management survey tools.

• Produce a monthly progress report on all schemes and pipeline activity

• Attend and participate in regular CAP update meetings on Microsoft teams (x12 pa).

• Assist with event planning and profile-raising opportunities such as MP visits to CAP projects.

Skills, attributes and experience

Essential to the role will be the ability to persuade key stakeholders at local and national level of the need to address underage drinking problems and to facilitate effective and dynamic local partnerships involving any/all of the following sectors: local authorities, education, child protection, social services, public health, Alcohol and Drug Partnerships, police, retailers and licensing.

• Excellent organisational and sound project management skills

• Great people skills with the ability to build consensus and motivate partners to play a role in timely delivery of an agreed action plan.

• Act as an ambassador for CAP at meetings and events including parliamentary events.

• Excellent presentation and all-round communication skills.

• Capable administrator with the ability to keep accurate records including data collection around outputs and impact evaluation.

Remuneration

Consultancy fee of £320 per day depending on experience. Work will depend on ability to generate interest in setting up new CAPs but we anticipate as a guideline engaging a minimum of 2 days of consultancy per week or around 90 days per annum. All reasonable and agreed travel expenses will be paid in line with invoice arrangements.

Working Well Trust is a mental health and employment charity in London. All of our projects share the aim of improving the lives of people with mental health support needs, learning disabilities and/or complex issues through training and employment.

We are expanding our team of IPS Employment Advisors in our IPS service in the London Borough of Newham. You will be based in one of NHS mental health treatment teams in the East Ham area.

IPS services at Working Well Trust have been awarded the IPS Grow quality mark and adhere to the principles of the IPS model in supporting people in to employment.

This role will be working with clients who have mental health support needs, wanting to gain and sustain paid employment. 

Experience of employment support is not essential, it is more important that you share our passion and commitment to employment as an integral aspect of wellbeing and supporting people to find the right job for them. You will receive training on the IPS model and in supporting people with mental health issues. We welcome applications from people with lived experience of mental health, either personally or through a close contact.

You need to have a desire to support people to achieve their employment goals, and the ability to multitask and manage your workload effectively. Good organisation skills are essential for this role, in addition to an interest in mental health, and the role it plays in the workplace. The successful candidate will need to become comfortable in approaching employers, and showcase the advantages of our service in order to work with them to recruit our clients to fill vacancies and sustain employment.

What you’ll be doing

You will work with clients (managing a caseload) who have mental health support needs, to assist them in securing sustainable paid employment in line with their preferences. You will deliver the IPS approach (for which training will be given); providing person centred support and guidance to clients, whilst building positive relationships with local employers to enable clients to move into suitable employment.

You will be working to contract targets to maintain a high-quality service.

You will work as part of a mental health team (NHS Trust) maintaining positive and integrated relationships, fostering a holistic approach to recovery through employment. You will work closely with clinical teams, providing a coordinated approach thatalways remainsclient led.

You will be based at one of the following NHS mental health treatment teams:

• Community Recovery Team (North), Newham
• Community Integrated Mental Health Team (North), Newham

You will spend up to 65% of your week working in the community of Newham to provide localised support to residents of the Borough.

You will play a key role in supporting people impacted by diabetes by communicating clearly on the phone and through our written platforms to a diverse range of audiences. The Woodland Trust is looking for an Outreach Adviser (Agroforestry) in the South West. The Outreach Adviser (Agroforestry) leads delivery of the Woodland Trust's agroforestry work with farmers and landowners across Devon and Cornwall, acting as the local lead for the Sainsbury's Supply Chain Resilience Programme. As a key member of the South West Outreach team, the role contributes to the delivery of regional priorities and the Rainforest Recovery Treescape by increasing the uptake of agroforestry, woodland creation, hedgerow restoration and sustainable woodland management on farms.

The Role:

• Lead the delivery of the South West element of the Sainsbury’s Supply Chain Resilience Programme, ensuring project objectives, targets and outcomes are achieved across Devon and Cornwall.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, landowners, supply chain partners and key stakeholders to increase engagement with agroforestry, woodland creation and farm-based tree initiatives.
• Provide expert advice and guidance on agroforestry, hedgerow creation, woodland establishment and the management of existing trees and woodlands to support sustainable farm businesses.
• Undertake farm visits and whole-farm assessments, identifying opportunities to enhance nature recovery, climate resilience and farm productivity through the integration of trees.
• Design and develop agroforestry, woodland and hedgerow projects, producing plans, reports and recommendations that support successful project delivery from concept through to implementation.
• Support landowners in securing appropriate funding opportunities and provide practical assistance to help projects progress from initial planning to on-the-ground delivery.
• Maintain accurate project, GIS and stakeholder records, contributing to monitoring, evaluation, reporting and evidence gathering to demonstrate project impact and inform future learning.
• Represent the Woodland Trust at events and industry forums, working collaboratively with colleagues, consultants and partners to share knowledge, promote best practice and strengthen the uptake of agroforestry across the region.
• This is a homebased role, requiring regular travel to locations within the Devon and Cornwall landscape and wider South West region, sometimes to remote locations. You would be expected to live within reasonable travelling distance of your area of responsibility. Occasional travel to regional offices and overnight stays will be required
• This is a fixed term contract for 12 months.

The Candidate:

• Experience of building trusted relationships with farmers, landowners and other rural stakeholders, providing practical advice and support on land management opportunities and challenges.
• Strong knowledge of agroforestry, woodland creation, hedgerow establishment and sustainable land management, including the role of trees and woodlands in resilient farming systems.
• Experience of delivering agroforestry projects or providing technical agroforestry advice, including undertaking assessments and developing land management plans.
• Good understanding of current agricultural and environmental policy, funding programmes, grant mechanisms and opportunities for habitat creation, restoration and nature recovery.
• Proven ability to plan, prioritise and deliver projects effectively, including experience of working on externally funded programmes with defined outputs, budgets and reporting requirements.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage a range of audiences through meetings, presentations, events and one-to-one advisory support.
• Ability to work independently across a large geographical area while collaborating effectively with colleagues, partners and external organisations to achieve shared objectives, supported by experience using Microsoft Office, GIS and other digital systems.
• Knowledge of woodland management, including ancient woodland restoration and ancient or veteran trees, with a qualification in forestry, agriculture, land management, environmental management or a related discipline, and a full UK driving licence with the ability to travel extensively, including occasional overnight stays.

Job description and purpose of the role

The successful candidates will provide advice, information and guidance to clients as part of Toynbee Hall’s Generalist Advice Team. Postholders will have a background in providing generalist advice on a wide range of social welfare law issues e.g. welfare benefits, housing, employment, debt, consumer and family law. Advice will be delivered through a range of channels, including face to face, telephone, email, home visits and at outreach locations.

The post holders will provide a high-quality, person-centred advice service, focusing particularly on people who may face barriers to accessing mainstream support. Working collaboratively with statutory, voluntary and specialist agencies, the role will help strengthen clients’ financial resilience, housing stability, employment rights and overall wellbeing through coordinated support.

Key duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide holistic advice, information and casework service to the general public on their rights and entitlements in a range of areas including welfare benefits, housing, employment, debt, consumer and family matters.
2. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of legislation, regulations, policies and practices relevant to the post including changes to the benefits system, housing legislation and employment legislation.
3. Use case management systems and Microsoft Office applications, for statistical recording, record keeping and document production. Ensure all work conforms to Toynbee Hall’s systems and procedures.
4. Refer clients on to colleagues or other agencies as appropriate for specialist help with major issues that fall outside the remit of the service.
5. Provide advice at a range of locations and through various channels. This includes at Toynbee Hall, on home visits and at outreach locations; in person, by telephone and email.
6. Meet targets as set by line manager, in line with our contractual and grant obligations.
7. Form effective working relationships with outreach agencies and other relevant stakeholders to ensure we reach our target group across all our services,
8. Support Toynbee Hall‘s social policy work by providing case studies and feedback on issues affecting service users.

Person Specification

1. Experience of Advice work

You will have at least 2 years experience of providing an advice and casework service in social welfare law, working to AQS standards or equivalent. You will be comfortable carrying a varied caseload, using a case management system and working in a performance driven environment to meet set targets.

2. Knowledge of Social Welfare law

You will have an in-depth knowledge of welfare benefits and in addition, generalist level knowledge of at least 2 of the following areas: housing, employment, debt, consumer; family law.

3. Communication Skills

You have the ability to explain complex information clearly and succinctly using your excellent written and oral communication skills. You will be able to produce clear and detailed case records and draft letters in plain English. You will have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to respond sensitively to a diverse client group.

All roles rerqure fluency in spoken and written English. Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is an advantage. At least one of the advertised roles will be offered to a candidate who satisfies the Spanish speaking requirement.

Social Prescribing empowers people to improve their health and wellbeing by connecting them with non-medical support within their communities. The service works with individuals to address the wider determinants of health, including social isolation, poor housing, debt, unemployment, caring responsibilities, and physical inactivity.

The project aims to strengthen personal and community resilience, reduce health inequalities, and improve health outcomes by enabling people to access practical and emotional support through community groups, voluntary sector organisations, and statutory services. The service supports people with long-term conditions, mental health needs, loneliness, social isolation, and complex social circumstances affecting their wellbeing.

Working closely with Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and a wide range of partner agencies, the service creates strong pathways between health, social care, and community resources to ensure individuals receive personalised, holistic support.

The Role

To provide person-centred Social Prescribing support to individuals referred from a range of health, social care and community-based services. You will build trusting relationships with individuals, identify what matters most to them, and co-produce personalised support plans that improve health, wellbeing, and independence.

The role involves managing a caseload of individuals, connecting them to local community assets, voluntary and community organisations and statutory services, while promoting self-management and social inclusion. The postholder will also work collaboratively with local partners to strengthen community capacity, encourage appropriate referrals and support the development of sustainable community resources.

We are looking for a warm, thoughtful and organised Rare Dementia Adviser to join our partnership service with Rare Dementia Support (RDS), based at the Hilary and Galen Weston Rare Dementia Support Centre, working 35 hours per week on a permanent basis. This is a hybrid role involving regular travel across the Bloomsbury, London area.

You will work closely with people living with rare dementia and those who care about them, providing personalised support throughout their journey. You will listen carefully, understand what matters most to each individual and provide information, guidance and reassurance that helps people feel informed, supported and more confident in managing the challenges they face.

Your days will be varied and meaningful. You will spend time at the Rare Dementia Support Centre supporting members in person and online, facilitating peer support groups, undertaking assessments and working collaboratively with professionals to ensure people receive the right support at the right time.

You will participate in a triage system for new referrals, helping to ensure enquiries are responded to promptly, sensitively and effectively. You will also manage your own caseload, maintain accurate records and contribute to the ongoing development of this exciting partnership between Alzheimer's Society and Rare Dementia Support.

You will be part of a supportive and dynamic team, with opportunities to develop your knowledge of dementia, strengthen your skills and contribute to innovative ways of supporting people affected by rare dementias.

Experience, Qualifications and Skills

• A minimum of 2 years’ professional frontline experience providing one-to-one employability, careers, education or training support to young people or adults facing barriers to employment, including those from disadvantaged or underrepresented backgrounds.
• Proven experience of independently managing a caseload, including assessing individual needs, agreeing and reviewing action plans, maintaining regular engagement, recording interventions and progress, and supporting individuals towards measurable employment, education or training outcomes.
• A strong track record of building trusting professional relationships with individuals who may face complex or multiple barriers.
• Practical experience supporting individuals with employability activities such as CV development, job searching, applications, interview preparation and identifying suitable opportunities.
• Experience or confidence in delivering employability workshops, training sessions, group activities etc
• Sound understanding of safeguarding responsibilities, professional boundaries and risk management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organisation and time-management skills.
• Confidence using IT systems and databases, such as Salesforce or similar CRM’s.
• The ability to work independently, take ownership of your caseload and outcomes.
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly across London.
• Resilience, adaptability and a solutions-focused approach, with a genuine commitment to supporting young people to achieve sustainable employment, education or training outcomes.

Please note that this role involves regular travel across London to deliver face-to-face support from different Local Authority hubs for at least two days per week, with locations potentially changing according to programme needs. We are unable to consider anyone who doesn’t meet this requirement.

You may have gained relevant experience in roles such as Careers Adviser, Employment Adviser, Employment Coach, Employability Specialist, Youth Employment Worker, Key Worker, Youth Worker, or a similar frontline role. Whatever your job title, you must have at least two years’ experience providing direct one-to-one support to people facing barriers to employment, education or training, including responsibility for managing your own caseload and supporting individuals towards measurable outcomes.

What matters most is your proven ability to build trust, engage and motivate young people, take ownership of their support journey, and help them make meaningful progress towards sustainable employment, education or training.
