Barnardo's is seeking an empathetic and child led individual who can work within a dynamic and fast-paced environment using their strong organisational, communication and time management skills, to support children in the secure estate.
This part-time position (Children's Rights and Advocacy Worker – Project Worker 2) is based within HMP Parc Young Person's Unit, which accommodates children aged between 15-18 years, who are in custody, either sentenced or on remand. Barnardo's refers to Young Offender Institutions (YOI's) and Secure Training Centres (STC's) as the Secure Estate (please note, the location of some secure establishments may mean they are not easily accessed by public transport).
Barnardo's is commissioned by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to provide an Independent Children's Rights and Advocacy (ICRAS) Service to children accommodated in a secure setting. The service is known to children as Barnardo's: Your Rights, Your Voice, and currently works within four Young Offender Institutes, one Secure Training Centre and one Secure Children's home. The ICRAS service is child led and independent of the secure estate; our service is delivered within Parc YOI to ensure children can freely access support for a range of issues linked to their needs, rights & experiences of custody, resettlement, and safeguarding. As such this is a child-facing service, and at times involves lone working in the establishments, so we are seeking someone who can see the child, not the offence.
We hold ‘voice' at the heart of all we do, therefore we feel the role is best described by someone who is currently working in this sector: “The role is a Children's Rights and Advocacy role, which means it is our job to empower the children we work with and help them to understand that what they think, what they feel and what they want, really matters. We can speak on behalf of children to ensure their voice is heard and we also have the opportunity to help them to find the tools and confidence to raise their voices for themselves. Advocacy and Children's Rights support is particularly crucial in the secure estate because children are away from home, family and champions, and also because children in secure estate are some of the most vulnerable children in society; they have often faced considerable adversity, disadvantage and discrimination prior to arriving into custody and they might not, therefore, be equipped with the skills needed to articulate their concerns. Through the work you do with a child such as simply helping them make contact with friends or family on the outside, to helping them with concerns they may have in relation todiscrimination, resettlement or safeguarding issues, you may be the one person telling them that they matter for the very first time.”
The position (Children's Rights and Advocacy Worker – Project Worker 2) is line managed by a Team Manager, reporting to an off-site manager. The post holder will need to be able to work autonomously, working to the requirements of the contract and the regime of the YOI. The secure estate is a highly structured environment; as a Barnardo's service we deliver independent advocacy and support for a range of issues, whilst still having to follow and adhere to this structure.
This role includes lone working in this challenging prison environment. It is, therefore, critical that the successful candidate can follow guidance and policy and is able to take proactive and individual responsibility to understand and access the service support mechanisms. This role requires the worker to be onsite for their contracted hours, working remotely only for occasional training or meetings. The advocacy team work on a rota system with set hours each week, which includes weekends and bank holidays. Applicants should also be aware, that due to the nature of working within secure estate, the vetting and induction process can take several months to complete.

As one of two PR Managers, you'll be the key point of contact for all PR communications, helping to develop and execute forward-thinking PR plans and strategies. Diving into projects such as Deaf Awareness Week, our ‘It does matter’, access to Ear Wax removal services and major healthcare campaigns, you’ll raise awareness of the barriers facing the 18m people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus, getting these issues on the national agenda, starting conversations around hearing health.

You will be responsible for:
• Coordinating our PR content calendar, creating and curating inspiring and shareable materials that resonate with our target audiences,reporting on performance against KPIs and making recommendations for continuous improvement.

Swindon Food Collective is an independent charity that aims to help people in Swindon, or the surrounding area, who are suffering from financial hardship and finding it difficult to provide food for themselves, their family or dependents.
They receive donations of non-perishable, tinned or dried food and toiletries from churches, schools, local companies, community groups, supermarkets and individuals and currently feed nearly 10,000 people per year. One third of these are children.
They work with many approved organisations, schools, doctors and social workers who can refer people in crisis to us. As well as providing food to address food poverty, they also provide a friendly chat and try to signpost people for further help. Indeed, it is this ‘signposting’ or working with people to enable them to enhance their lives where they see their services evolving. Swindon Food Collective are also reviewing how they can best utilise short-life foods. They operate from a central warehouse and have 11 distribution centres around Swindon and surrounding areas where food can be collected.
The charity is financially sound and has the resources to develop their service offering. They have recently hired a Finance Manager, created a new post as Business Strategy Manager and are also out to market to appoint a Chief Executive Officer. The role
Due to an internal move, Swindon Food Collective are seeking to appoint a new Operations Manager who will ensure they are meeting the demand for their services, providing help and support to people in crisis in the local community and positively supporting all staff and volunteers in their different roles.
This role oversees logistics, streamlining of processes, and optimises resource allocation to meet the needs of the community while minimising waste and is the linchpin that keeps the food bank service running smoothly and effectively.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the charity’s logistics, including stock management and movement, handling incoming donations, purchasing, storage and distribution of food and other resources.
- Day-to-day management of all operational employees and volunteers, ensuring efficient operations and high-quality service delivery.
- Lead and inspire staff and volunteers and evaluate operations and ways of working to identify areas of improvement and efficiency.

The Role
The Community Centre Manager will play a key role in the leadership and smooth running of The Edward Woods centre, managing change, growth and performance as agreed with the CEO. Duties and Responsibilities
Management of the Community Centre
• Manage the operations of the Community Centre, its staff and the development and delivery of activities and facilities in line with the business and strategic plan.
• Ensure compliance with employment law and that we follow good practice regarding HR.
• Contribute to the planning, development, implementation and delivery of the business and strategic plan and present regular progress updates to the UPG Management team.

Management of staff and Volunteers

Edward Woods Community Centre has a small team of employees, tenants, volunteers and a
wide range of activities. it is expected that the post holder will be flexible in assisting in areas of work which go beyond their main duties. Job Purpose
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for strategic and operational oversight of the effective delivery of the Creating Community Connections Pilot, ensuring the successful delivery of the pilot project, balancing the demands of supporting the various partnerships between funders, providers, and stakeholders to collectively deliver the required impact and ensure contract compliance.

The project will ultimately support women who have experienced domestic abuse and work with them so that their experiences do not negatively influence their opportunity of successful resettlement back into the community.

- Develop engagement plans for ministers and senior officials
- Create high-quality briefing materials for senior leadership for meetings with government ministers and senior officials, attending meetings as appropriate
- Lead on policy positioning papers on key issues
- Support Communications colleagues to ensure country and regional government relations are aligned
Location: We have a hybrid approach to working. Work pattern and location will be agreed with the successful candidate. The role can be based at any of our UK offices: Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Newcastle and Newtown.

Essential criteria
- Significant experience in government relations, policy and public affairs, working with government departments, ministers and officials
- Understanding of DCMS and its broader universe, particularly related to VCSE sector
- Strong background in political analysis skills, parliamentary and legislative knowledge
- Demonstrable success in influencing policy outcomes
- Experience advising senior leadership
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, evidence of ability to turn complex policy into useful briefings at short notice
- Ability to engage diverse political and other stakeholder audiences
- Project and matrix management experience, particularly in complex organisations managing competing deadlines.
Desirable criteria
- Experience with devolved administrations
- Background in non-departmental or arms-length public bodies
- Relevant professional qualification
