As a Youth Intervention Practitioner working on our Youth Violence Intervention Programme in Birmingham, you will work across two hospital sites – Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QE) and Heartlands Hospital (HH). The role is primarily based at QE day to day and will visit and take referrals from the other sites on a regular basis.
As a Youth Intervention Practitioner based in the A&E departments you will support young people who are experiencing trauma or tragedy and their families. You’ll be part of a team that is fully embedded in the hospital and that is highly valued by clinicians and community partners alike.
To do this well you need to be a people person; passionate about supporting young people, and excited at the prospect of working in a fast-paced and exceptionally busy environment. You’ll need a proven ability to work with high risk, vulnerable young people and an understanding of the impact intense, short-term work can have.You must be a strong communicator: as comfortable building a relationship with a young person as you are liaising with our clinical colleagues. Experience working with young people experiencing exploitation, violence, mental health, substance misuse and other areas of need, is advantageous but full training will be provided. Post Title: Youth Violence Intervention Practitioner
Location: The post will work across all Birmingham service sites but be based primarily at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. All Redthread team members must have a flexible approach to supporting other sites when needed. Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in eleven areas/regions of the UK and will support 3250 children in 2024-25.
Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs struggling five to seven-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.
From a school perspective, online reading volunteers provide direct, meaningful literacy support for up to 10 pupils per class. The programme is particularly suitable for communities where it might be challenging to find parents and other volunteers who can commit to physically visiting schools to boost reading.
Job Summary
Chapter One is seeking a Birmingham/West Midlands Programme Manager from September 2024 who is an excellent communicator and is able both to motivate and support schools and teachers to implement our online reading volunteers programme, and also to ensure that the programme’s impact and benefit to disadvantaged communities is maximised throughout the academic year.
The post is ideal for someone looking for part-time, flexible, term-time only work from a home base and who is able to travel frequently around the Birmingham and West Midlands area. The postholder will be joining a team of established Programme Managers (also part-time) who work in different parts of the UK and will need to have some flexibility to work additional hours during busy autumn months, and conversely to work fewer hours during quieter periods of the year.
Key Responsibilities:
• Effectively explain Chapter One’s online reading volunteer programme and its benefits to school leaders and teachers
• Install, setup and maintain Chapter One equipment in participating classrooms
• Fully understand the operation of the Chapter One platform and database and communicate this to others
• Organise and conduct initial teacher training and follow-up
• Ensure a smooth initial launch of Chapter One’s programme in every classroom
• Liaise with colleagues performing technical and volunteer support roles
• Through regular visits to/contact with schools, provide on-going embedded professional learning and support to teachers throughout the year as needed
• Proactively monitor classroom adherence/fidelity to the Chapter One model, including systematic review of data reports and volunteer feedback, taking proactive action to resolve problems that arise

Purpose
We are seeking an organisation and/or two individuals to deliver clinical supervision to Redthread youth workers and managers (in separate clinical groups) who are based in London and Birmingham in the context of trauma-informed practice so that they can undertake their roles safely and effectively.
About Redthread
Redthread is a multi award-winning charity with over 20 years experience of delivering pioneering youth work in hospitals and other health settings. We work across hospitals in London and Birmingham with 11-25 year olds who are affected by grooming, sexual and criminal exploitation, violence, emotional and physical harm, mental health issues, domestic violence and modern slavery. We also support children and young people in the online space to reduce the impacts of violence, and with those experiencing a range of health conditions, who are vulnerable and in need.
Our model is pioneering, and we train NHS staff so they are able to identify and better support children and young people affected by violence in health settings. We amplify the voices of children and young people and use our evidence and insights from working with them to adapt and innovate our work, support service improvement, and influence regional and national government.
About our team
We are a diverse organisation and it is critical that our staff have access to the right clinical supervisor to feel safe, reflect on their practice, and manage any work-related vicarious trauma.
1 Our team includes Youth Workers and Senior Youth Workers (20), Young Women’s Workers (3), Team Leaders (7), Managers and a VAWG Lead (5), and our Head Office staff. You will be responsible for providing clinical supervision to our hospital based staff and managers and may need to (on an ad hoc basis) support Head Office staff as and when required/upon request.

They are looking for Recovery Navigators and a Senior Recovery Navigator to work in partnership with people experiencing mental health difficulties who are currently residing in non-acute in-patient care. You will deliver a person-centred recovery approach, in groups or on an individual basis, that focuses on developing, maintaining and strengthening their skills and abilities. Ultimately you will support service users to attain independence in daily living skills in agreement with their individual needs and personal plans, achieving successful outcomes and promoting moving on.
They are looking for mental health professionals with experience of assessing and constructing care plans that support people to be in control of their lives. It is essential that you have an empathy for people experiencing mental health issues and are committed to service user involvement and empowerment. As the Senior Recovery Navigator, you will be responsible, alongside the management team of the service, for ensuring good practice is maintained and promoted. The Service
The main aim of the Mental Health Connector Service is to work as part of a collaborative partnership with both Forward Thinking Birmingham (FTB) and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT) teams within the Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams.
This transformational service is an integral part of local Primary Care Networks (PCN) across Birmingham and Solihull.
The service will assist with providing support and interventions to service-users in primary care by providing access to support around social catalysts of poor mental health. This includes issues such as debt, housing, domestic violence, substance use, homelessness, isolation, relationship breakdown, unemployment, and other social crisis issues.
The service will see a team of Mental Health trained professional, Local Authority, Education and voluntary sector staff working together to delivery liaison, consultation, and intervention delivery. The service is an all-age service and will be based in a Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams.
The Role

You will manage and support the on-going development of these services and test “proof of concept” in relation to offering alternatives to NHS response to mental health services.

Once excluded, prospects for these young people are bleak, with only 4% achieving good GCSE grades, and 67% entering sustained education, employment or training compared to 96% of their non-excluded peers. This, coupled with exposure to the work place through Career Taster Days, raises their aspirations and puts young people in a better position to enter sustained education, employment or training (EET) when they leave school.

This is a frontline role where you will spend the majority of your time working with young people, building relationships with them and delivering our full programme of activities which includes rugby based activity sessions, employability workshops, career taster days and more.

We use rugby as a hook and mentorship as an anchor, using our four cornerstones (developing life skills, raising aspirations, improving physical wellbeing, focus on mental wellbeing) to develop young people throughout their time with us. We enable young people to be in a better position to enter sustained education, employment or training (EET) when they leave school.
The delivery team always work in pairs, running our interventions across a variety of settings (including mainstream schools, Pupil Referral Units, Alternative Provisions, SEN schools, Youth Offenders Institutes, community centres and rugby clubs) working in the school timetable and between 3-7pm. While delivering our interventions is a big part of the job, you will also be responsible for supporting the team to ensure the successful collection of data, managing school relationships and delivering on partnership projects.
You do not need to be a rugby fanatic for this role, but you do need to be passionate about social mobility of the excluded. We are looking for someone with a youth work, teaching, mentoring or sports coaching background to help strengthen our team as we work towards our forward strategy.

Location: To be based in any of the Crisis Skylights in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Merseyside, Birmingham, Oxford, South Wales, Central London, Croydon, or Brent, but with home working as an option in line with Crisis’ Hybrid Working Policy. There will an expectation to travel to different Crisis Skylights on average twice a month for meetings and to deliver trainings.
About the role
This is a new role within Crisis’ People & Culture Team, created so we can plan, develop, and deliver a range of internal learning sessions for staff across the organisation. This will include working with our frontline staff, ensuring they have the skills required to support our members to end their homelessness. This role will also provide administrative support to ensure that all training events run efficiently, and appropriate records are maintained.
About you
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives when planning, developing, and delivering trainings to upskill staff who work with vulnerable adults. You will have experience of collaborating with range of stakeholders to ensure trainings meet the learning and development needs of its audience. This role requires someone who is very organised and has experience of juggling multiple and competing priorities. The successful candidate will be delivering in-person sessions at Crisis Skylights across the UK so you must be comfortable with national travel on average twice a month.

Residential Support Workers (Mental Health)

£23,400 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Post holders must be able to work flexible shifts Monday to Sunday. There is also a requirement for the post holders to be available to work sleep-in duties (for which there is a separate allowance paid).
