About Us
The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.
The role
Is an exciting new edition to the TUR team, created to capitalise on the fact that the number of businesses in our catchment area is 45000+, but we’re not trying to talk to all of them, just target a few – ideally by gaining referrals and recommendations. So the job is to proactively find those local businesses happy to talk to us, understand what they might be looking for by partnering with a charity, share our brilliant story along with the business case (which is strong) for them to get involved with us in some way. We have made an excellent start, we already have a small number of great corporate partners, and this job is about taking it all on to the next level. As you would expect the role is about creating contacts, networking, maximising the face-to-face time with prospective partners and where possible gaining referrals. And, ultimately this is all because, the bigger our portfolio of corporate partners all feeling great about their involvement with us, the more able we are to raise the funds we need to keep up with an ever-increasing demand for our services.
About You
You live within - or know well, West/Central London, you probably need a job with some working flexibility and want to have genuine belief in the product or service you’re talking about. You have a CV that demonstrates solid experience in a comparable role in a ‘business-to-business’ environment, a role - the success of which, is dependent on the levels of energy and proactivity you provide. This could be in another charity, CIC or other Non-Profit organisation. However, if you have a solid B2B background and want to explore a change of direction you are also very welcome to apply. You are comfortable and confident with working autonomously, you can articulate and ‘bring to life’ your story through your presentation skills. You also need great listening skills so you can build a picture of what each new corporate partner is looking to achieve by signing up to our cause. You have used Microsoft suite products before – including PowerPoint. A driving licence and use of a car is desirable as the role requires regular client visits, some of whom may not be accessible by public transport.

Job Purpose:
The Project Development Manager will be the main point of contact for the collaboration. They will be responsible for implementing and delivering the project plan, monitoring, evaluations, reporting, all systems and processes, coordinating meetings, etc and for generating income through (mainly) Corporate partnerships but may include some Trusts and High Value individuals. Main areas of responsibility
This is a key senior role within the Fundraising Directorate, collaborating closely with the Senior Corporate Manager – New Business the Fundraising Leadership Team to grow income and awareness from corporate sources.
The key focus of the role will be:
- Successfully lead the Corporate Partnerships account team to develop and deliver on our ambitious growth strategy across existing partnerships.
- Working collaboratively with the Senior Corporate Manager – New Business to deliver a seamless strategy, focussing on the transition of partners through business planning and maximising lifetime value.
- Being accountable for excellent stewardship and account growth plans specifically deepening of engagement to maximise ROI and longer term strategic partnerships.
- Using data, insight and innovation techniques to implement diversify income streams from existing partners.
- An active member of the Fundraising Leadership Team, managing key cross organisational projects on behalf of the whole fundraising directorate.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team to maximise immediate potential with existing partners and generate a more diverse portfolio of strategic and sustained income over time.
- Maintain oversight of our partnerships portfolio and pipeline and work with the Senior Corporate Manager – New Business to ensure a cohesive and collaborative transition of new partners into account management.
- Manage forecasting and expenditure for the Corporate Partnerships team providing updates, mitigation plans and horizon scanning for income opportunities. .
- Lead the team to develop and deliver cultivation and stewardship programmes for partners with clear growth targets
- Lead Corporate Fundraising representation across the organisation, to deliver projects and build new opportunities to help the FareShare deliver on its strategy.
- Establish effective and impactful relationships with current partners to ensure appropriate relationships are in place and effectively managed at all levels.
- Oversee account allocation across the team to maximise account growth and optimise return on investment.
- In collaboration with FareShare’s Operations Team ensure accurate monitoring and project progress on restricted funding.
- Provide inspiring and motivating leadership and coaching of direct line reports
- Work with the Senior Managers across fundraising to maximise cross selling opportunities, from employees to Major Donor prospects.

Main purpose of the post
We are seeking to appoint a Business Development Coordinator to join a wider team that spearheads RUSI’s research fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Director, Research Business Development, the successful candidate will enhance the institute’s business development activities by providing administrative and coordination support for business development, contracts, and risk management. Working closely with research groups, central services teams, and the senior management team, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that RUSI is well-placed to spot and respond to new funding opportunities and that our contracts are high-quality and executed efficiently.

Be responsible for ensuring that risk registers are maintained and updated across the Institute to track risk within the organisation.

Attend all Audit & Risk Committee meetings to update members on changes to the risk register, and take minutes for each meeting.

Work with the COO and Business Development team to ensure that RUSI has in place all policies and procedures across the Institute that are required by funders on various projects.

Assist the COO in keeping up to date with all Charity Commission guidance on charity operations and compliance.

Person specification
Essential Skills and Experience:
-
Professional experience in charity administration, business development, customer service, events management, account management or similar.
-
Previous experience in grants administration or project management.
-
Basic knowledge and awareness of common requirements for bid submissions including such items as statements on duty of care, quality assurance, supply chain management, gender, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Experience in contract administration and completion.
-
An undergraduate degree or equivalent in business, international relations, or related field.
-
Team Player – a genuine enthusiasm to help others, collaborate across multiple teams, and to see your work contribute to the benefit of the organisation.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with different personalities and manage confidential information with sensitivity.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate clearly and professionally on video calls, Teams chat, email and in person. Able to produce clear, accurate and insightful written output, meeting the highest quality standards.

Excellent organisation and attention to detail – you can maintain, implement, and improve systems, processes, and databases to ensure that our data and outputs are accurate, thorough and up to date.

Outstanding time management skills and a willingness to work flexibly – juggling shifting priorities and competing deadlines, managing people’s expectations effectively.

Strong IT and Microsoft skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe and PowerPoint)
