Senior PR and Communications Manager

We fund world-leading research, state-of-the-art equipment and exceptional patient environments, ensuring The Royal Marsden can continue to deliver outstanding care and develop pioneering treatments used across the UK and beyond.
Following significant growth and the successful £70m Oak Cancer Centre Appeal, we are now delivering our most ambitious strategy yet - raising at least £215m over five years, including a major new development in Chelsea.
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Senior PR and Communications Manager to lead our PR and Communications function and play a key role in raising the Charity’s profile as a global leader in cancer research funding.
You will lead the development and delivery of a proactive and reactive PR and communications strategy that enhances our reputation, drives awareness, and supports fundraising across all income streams.
Managing a small team, you will work collaboratively across the Charity and hospital to identify compelling stories—from groundbreaking research to powerful patient and supporter experiences—and bring them to life across regional, national and sector media.
What You’ll Be Doing
Strategic Leadership
- Deliver the Charity’s PR and communications strategy to increase visibility, reputation and engagement
- Manage and develop the PR and Communications team, ensuring high-quality, impactful output
- Track and report on media performance, coverage and KPIs.
Media Relations & Reputation Management
- Develop strong relationships with national, regional and specialist media
- Lead proactive media engagement, including story sell-in, press releases and media briefings
- Manage reactive communications, including handling sensitive issues and advising on messaging
- Identify opportunities to position senior leaders as thought leaders within the sector.
Content and Storytelling
- Oversee the development of high-quality, compelling content that showcases the Charity’s impact
- Lead on the production of the Charity’s supporter magazine Progress and key publications, including Annual and Impact Reports
- Work closely with clinical teams, patients and supporters to source authentic, engaging stories.
Campaigns and Partnerships
- Lead PR activity for flagship campaigns and events, including The Banham Marsden March, Celebrate a Life, and the Ever After Garden
- Support major fundraising initiatives, corporate partnerships and new product launches
- Collaborate with Marketing and Digital teams to maximise reach across channels.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships across the Charity, hospital and external partners
- Work closely with clinical teams, senior leadership, and celebrity/VIP stakeholders to maximise appropriate PR opportunities
- Ensure consistent and accurate representation of the Charity’s brand and messaging.
About You
We are looking for a confident and strategic communications leader with strong charity sector experience.
You will bring:
- Significant experience in PR and communications within the charity sector
- A proven track record of delivering impactful PR strategies and campaigns
- Strong media relations expertise, including handling complex and sensitive issues
- Experience of managing and developing high-performing teams
- Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills
- Experience producing publications such as annual reports or magazines
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of the NHS or healthcare environment
- Professional qualifications in journalism or communications
- Experience working with VIP or celebrity engagement.

Community Fundraiser (Covering North Liverpool, Southport, Knowsley & St Helens)
As part of our community team, you will place our supporters at the heart of everything you do by cultivating and stewarding relationships to provide a first-class experience. You are outgoing, independent, able to work instinctively, and confident in making approaches to garner new support. You will have the ability to translate our story to develop and inspire our volunteers and engage with a wide range of community contacts and high street corporates. You'll be joining the charity during an exciting period of growth, as we develop our community volunteer led income with the aim of increasing charity reach and recognition in pursuit of our team targets and goals.
Ideally you will have experience of working in a fundraising environment (paid or voluntary), or be able to demonstrate transferable skills within a customer-facing role, and the ability to manage relationships with a diverse range of people.
The role will be based at our Liverpool fundraising office. The option of hybrid/flexible working where appropriate can be considered.
A good knowledge of the area this role covers and a full driving licence and use of a car in order to travel between Clatterbridge sites and across the wider area is essential.
Preference would also be for the candidate to live within or close to the area the role covers.

About the Digital Officer role:
The Digital Officer is a key member of the Marketing and Digital team. As Digital Officer you'll work closely with the team and with fundraising teams across the organisation. What you’ll be doing
- Supporting the day-to-day management and optimisation of our website and fundraising microsites
- Working with teams across the charity to deliver impactful digital content and fundraising appeals
- Writing deliver engaging, accessible and optimised digital article content to support fundraising activities and key charity objectives.
- Working with the wider digital team to embed and promote digital best practices and deliver training to build digital skills across the organisation
- Managing multiple projects and priorities effectively to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of digital work.
- Supporting with performance measurement and reporting on content and campaign performance using analytics tools.
About you
The successful candidate will need:
- Professional experience using CMS (Content Management Systems) and knowledge of website management, on-page and technical SEO and digital best practice. Knowledge of UX is desirable but not essential.
- Experience using data tools, such as Google Analytics for reporting and identifying actionable insights.
- Excellent copywriting, editorial and proofreading skills.
- Experience in writing for the web or digital channels and creating content tailored to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to communicate, work collaboratively and build good working relationships.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work proactively and manage multiple projects concurrently.
The following are beneficial but not essential:

This is a new role, expanding the management team in our Services team, and providing some additional focus for our grant making, commissioning and direct service provision work.
This is an exciting time to be joining our team. Our grant making work is providing support for wellbeing services across the county, in addition to the £5m Sunflower Appeal, which will provide a major capital grant for a new cancer centre at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. We have recently begun commissioning services directly, with our counselling service for family and carers of cancer patients being our first step into this way of working.
There are huge opportunities to develop our work further. Our Bins for Boys project launched in 2024, and we want to see Bins for Boys venues across our region by 2028. Our monitoring, evaluation and impact work is building, and there is grant potential to shape how we report on the value our work has to the communities around us.
We are looking for someone who is a confident communicator, able to develop strong partnerships and has the skill to understand and interpret new project ideas. A clinical background is not a requirement, but a genuine interest in how we can make a difference for people living with cancer is essential.
Our ideal candidate will have an understanding of managing grant-funded projects, a creative approach to challenges and a supportive attitude to managing others. They will be able to navigate complex governance and work with internal and external stakeholders effectively. They will have the ability to see and realise opportunities for income generation to support their work.
This role will work alongside the Head of Services (Cancer Awareness), and there is an expectation of close collaboration and cross-working between the two sides of the team. It will also form part of the wider Lingen Davies management team, attending senior team meetings and collaborating with others to ensure smooth running and development across the charity.
Please note, this role requires travel across our large, rural region. Therefore, a UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle is essential.

If yes, then the role of Fundraising Manager at HCCN might be for you!
All the charity’s income is generated through fundraising, grants, donations and gifts. This role is at the heart of our operations, central to ensuring a sustainable income stream, ensuring we continue to help people with cancer back to independence with a renewed sense of self-esteem. You’ll be a key part of our small but mighty Operations Team.
We need our Fundraising Manager to:
●Develop, implement, monitor and report regularly on an annual fundraising plan and budget to deliver the charity’s fundraising objectives while minimising financial risk
●Be responsible for the development and delivery of events
●Be the face of HCCN during fundraising events
●Recruit volunteers to assist at events, developing strong relationships and identifying and cultivating supporters to develop new fundraising opportunities and partnerships
●Keep the HCCN database up to date and ensure it is used as an effective means of communication, information, networking and reporting. Ensure all data is GDPR compliant.
●Work with the Operations Manager to review targets and budgets. Produce financial and activity reports, forming part of the charity’s financial and business plan review.
●Seek opportunities to apply for grants. Write grant applications for Trustee approval. Develop legacy giving

●Identify and mitigate risks at fundraising events, including risk assessment
●know and care about people with cancer and the issues that affect them
Training will be provided.
This role is hybrid. The successful applicant will be home based with local travel as required to support fundraising activity, with occasional evening and weekend working in the Huntingdon area.
The time commitment is 25 hours per week. We offer pension benefits and paid holidays.
You must live within easy reach of Huntingdon and be able to drive with your own vehicle.

Please note that this role will support the fundraising in both our Maggie's Edinburgh and Fife centres. The role is based in Maggie's Edinburgh but will require some occasional travel to Maggie's Fife.
The purpose of the role is to utilise effective and efficient administrative and fundraising skills to assist in delivering both financial and non-financial targets which will provide a gateway to all fundraising activity across Maggie’s.
As Centre Fundraiser, you will assist the Centre Fundraising Manager to implement the fundraising strategy to deliver income targets through proactive donor recruitment and excellent donor care.
This includes supporting and retaining existing supporters and researching new key relationships with individuals as well as partnerships with local businesses, groups and associations.
You will represent the work, vision and purpose of Maggie’s whilst supporting the delivery of local and central fundraising initiatives and campaigns. This includes presentations, face to face, telephone and written communications.
There will be a requirement to work irregular hours as well as frequent local travel.
