About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Senior PR and Communications Manager to lead our PR and Communications function and play a key role in raising the Charity’s profile as a global leader in cancer research funding.
You will lead the development and delivery of a proactive and reactive PR and communications strategy that enhances our reputation, drives awareness, and supports fundraising across all income streams.
Managing a small team, you will work collaboratively across the Charity and hospital to identify compelling stories—from groundbreaking research to powerful patient and supporter experiences—and bring them to life across regional, national and sector media.
What You’ll Be Doing
Strategic Leadership
- Deliver the Charity’s PR and communications strategy to increase visibility, reputation and engagement
- Manage and develop the PR and Communications team, ensuring high-quality, impactful output
- Track and report on media performance, coverage and KPIs.
Media Relations & Reputation Management
- Develop strong relationships with national, regional and specialist media
- Lead proactive media engagement, including story sell-in, press releases and media briefings
- Manage reactive communications, including handling sensitive issues and advising on messaging
- Identify opportunities to position senior leaders as thought leaders within the sector.
Content and Storytelling
- Oversee the development of high-quality, compelling content that showcases the Charity’s impact
- Lead on the production of the Charity’s supporter magazine Progress and key publications, including Annual and Impact Reports
- Work closely with clinical teams, patients and supporters to source authentic, engaging stories.
Campaigns and Partnerships
- Lead PR activity for flagship campaigns and events, including The Banham Marsden March, Celebrate a Life, and the Ever After Garden
- Support major fundraising initiatives, corporate partnerships and new product launches
- Collaborate with Marketing and Digital teams to maximise reach across channels.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships across the Charity, hospital and external partners
- Work closely with clinical teams, senior leadership, and celebrity/VIP stakeholders to maximise appropriate PR opportunities
- Ensure consistent and accurate representation of the Charity’s brand and messaging.
About You
We are looking for a confident and strategic communications leader with strong charity sector experience.
You will bring:
- Significant experience in PR and communications within the charity sector
- A proven track record of delivering impactful PR strategies and campaigns
- Strong media relations expertise, including handling complex and sensitive issues
- Experience of managing and developing high-performing teams
- Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills
- Experience producing publications such as annual reports or magazines
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of the NHS or healthcare environment
- Professional qualifications in journalism or communications
- Experience working with VIP or celebrity engagement.

Community Fundraiser (Covering North Liverpool, Southport, Knowsley & St Helens)
As part of our community team, you will place our supporters at the heart of everything you do by cultivating and stewarding relationships to provide a first-class experience. You are outgoing, independent, able to work instinctively, and confident in making approaches to garner new support. You will have the ability to translate our story to develop and inspire our volunteers and engage with a wide range of community contacts and high street corporates. You'll be joining the charity during an exciting period of growth, as we develop our community volunteer led income with the aim of increasing charity reach and recognition in pursuit of our team targets and goals.
Ideally you will have experience of working in a fundraising environment (paid or voluntary), or be able to demonstrate transferable skills within a customer-facing role, and the ability to manage relationships with a diverse range of people.
The role will be based at our Liverpool fundraising office. The option of hybrid/flexible working where appropriate can be considered.
A good knowledge of the area this role covers and a full driving licence and use of a car in order to travel between Clatterbridge sites and across the wider area is essential.

About the Digital Officer role:
The Digital Officer is a key member of the Marketing and Digital team. - Supporting the day-to-day management and optimisation of our website and fundraising microsites

About you
The successful candidate will need:
- Professional experience using CMS (Content Management Systems) and knowledge of website management, on-page and technical SEO and digital best practice. Knowledge of UX is desirable but not essential.
- Experience using data tools, such as Google Analytics for reporting and identifying actionable insights.
- Excellent copywriting, editorial and proofreading skills.
- Experience in writing for the web or digital channels and creating content tailored to a variety of audiences.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting those affected by ovarian cancer through a people-centered approach. You must be experienced in providing support services, well-organised and approachable. We have embedded our health equalities work stream across our organisation, so you must be committed to an inclusive approach across all your work. You will be an important member of our staff team, contributing to positive and constructive engagement with our community. We will provide you with training and supervision to support you to develop professionally within this role and to maintain a healthy work/life balance.
Pay scale: £29,899 – £33,668 per year (full time), pro-rata if part time. All our salaries are benchmarked based on the requirements of the Role Description and comparable roles in the charity sector. Salaries are subject to an annual review; we also award an annual cost of living increase.
Hours: 21 hours (part time) to 35 hours (full time) per week. We can offer flexibility around core operational hours to accommodate caring responsibilities. Core hours of work are between 8.30am to 5.30pm. Wednesday is a core working day.
Location is either:
· Home-based with an appropriate working space where confidentiality can be assured. Lives within the UK.
Or
· In our London office, this option attracts an additional payment.
In both scenarios you must be able to attend bi-monthly meetings in London and undertake occasional travel in the UK for meetings and support events.

JOB DESCRIPTION
You will work within the support team in providing the first point of contact for all support enquiries to Ovacome, via telephone, email, instant chat, and social media channels.
You will provide information and support on a wide range of ovarian cancer issues, including broader issues around living with cancer, ensuring that all information is evidence based and up-to-date.
You will assist in the moderation of the My Ovacome support forum and provide information where required to members.
You will assist in keeping the Support Services information on the Ovacome website up-to-date.
You will keep full, accurate, contemporaneous records of all enquiries following Ovacome policies and procedures, including confidentiality and data protection. You will maintain and update records on the Ovacome database.
You will assist in the organisation and facilitation of Ovacome groups as required.
You will maintain knowledge of clinical and research developments in ovarian cancer through relevant journals, attending conferences and liaison with healthcare professionals.
You will assist with the production of reports as required.
You will participate in regional support events as required, liaising with local services prior to the event.
You will contribute to the Ovacome information resources and work with other members of the Ovacome to produce content that is of interest to our community.
You will work with the support team to identify common questions and themes from our service users so that we can proactively meet the needs of the wider community.

All the charity’s income is generated through fundraising, grants, donations and gifts. This role is at the heart of our operations, central to ensuring a sustainable income stream, ensuring we continue to help people with cancer back to independence with a renewed sense of self-esteem. You’ll be a key part of our small but mighty Operations Team.
We need our Fundraising Manager to:
●Develop, implement, monitor and report regularly on an annual fundraising plan and budget to deliver the charity’s fundraising objectives while minimising financial risk
●Be responsible for the development and delivery of events
●Be the face of HCCN during fundraising events
●Recruit volunteers to assist at events, developing strong relationships and identifying and cultivating supporters to develop new fundraising opportunities and partnerships
●Keep the HCCN database up to date and ensure it is used as an effective means of communication, information, networking and reporting. Ensure all data is GDPR compliant.
●Work with the Operations Manager to review targets and budgets. Produce financial and activity reports, forming part of the charity’s financial and business plan review.
●Seek opportunities to apply for grants. Write grant applications for Trustee approval. Develop legacy giving

Following an internal promotion, we are looking for our next Senior Special Events Executive to join our high performing Special Events team. Together, the team delivers a range of special events which raises vital funds to save the lives of people with cancer, including:
- Recital 4 Research, an opera recital and reception;
- The Royal Marsden Cup, our annual golf day; and
- the Ever After Garden, our flagship and high profile annual remembrance garden in Chelsea, which last year was visited by HRH The Princess of Wales and over 190,000 visitors
In this role you will help deliver our portfolio of events, which will include:
- coordinating speakers,
- liaising with suppliers,
- managing senior volunteers,
- supporting in donor meetings,
- securing high value auction and raffle prizes, and
- writing donor communications.
Your support will ensure that as a team we deliver outstanding donor experiences and event outcomes.You will be joining us at an exciting time as we seek to grow our portfolio and deliver income growth from high value fundraising committees and special events.

The Role
Reporting to the Retail Development Manager, the Retail Development Officer will support with the continued growth and development of our retail network.
The role holder will actively support the Retail Development Manager to build, deliver, and implement a pipeline of new sites development in retail, including shops, cafes and superstores, Yorkshire Cancer Research Centres, and other retail related projects.
You will have responsibility of supporting the Retail Development Manager with market analysis and feasibility studies of potential new sites, contributing to the development of business cases, projects plans and delivery of these plans as well as contributing to compliance and ongoing maintenance and required improvements within the retail real estate. There will also be an opportunity for the role holder to inform future decision making through the delivery of business insight, KPI data and other metric reports relating to income.
Specifically, you will:
Ensure Retail Development effectively manages risk through clear prioritisation and consistent role modelling of best practices:
· Work collaboratively with the Retail Area Manager, with regards to monitoring compliance with retail policies and procedures, as well as Health & Safety standards.
· Act as a visible leader in relation to all health and safety responsibilities, taking reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others. Adhere to all Health & Safety requirements, processes and procedures.
· Support and role model a strong safety-first approach in all retail development activities and projects.
· Work closely with the Facilities Manager to ensure new shops are in good condition and compliance documents are in place before being handed over to operate under business-as-usual activities.
Drive strong team performance across retail by consistently delivering high-quality work, demonstrating reliability, and actively collaborating across teams and external partners:
· Support, where possible, the recruitment process for new shop managers and volunteers and ensure this is complete in time for each new shop opening.
· Maintain and monitor detailed project plans for refurbishments, openings and improvement projects, ensuring suppliers, tradespeople and internal stakeholders are engaged and informed of key dates.
· Deputise for the Retail Development Manager, support and maintain relationships with property agents, shopfitters, tradespeople and third parties, in their absence.
· Assist as a contact for discussions with relevant internal and external stakeholders regarding new locations.
Support the positive representation of the Yorkshire Cancer Research brand by modelling key behaviours and helping deliver welcoming, innovative spaces that position the organisation as a brand leader:
· Undertake regular shop visits/shop floor inspections as directed by the Retail Development Manager; directing and supporting the team to deliver creative and inspiring layouts, space planning and use of point of sale to ensure that each shop maximises its sales potential.
· Empower teams through training and demonstrating the high standards expected of visual presentation of the shops in representing the brand image of Yorkshire Cancer Research.
· Be a trusted point of reference who understands expected standards, can clearly communicate them, and champions their importance in representing Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Support the delivery of commercially viable shops and related spaces by working within budget constraints and aligning with approved business cases and project plans:
· Support the Retail Development Manager in exploring and identifying the best locations for new shop openings, including market analysis, feasibility study, site visits, and site presentation.
· Assist in developing business cases for each new shop, ensuring they are financially viable and key decisions are documented.
· Support the development of project plans for shop openings, closures, and refits by ensuring suppliers, tradespeople and internal stakeholders are engaged and informed of key dates.
· Continuously improve systems and processes that support effective project delivery, ensuring accurate documentation, reporting and compliance.
· Work alongside the Retail Development Manager to identify new suppliers, ensuring they are suitable, competent, and aligned to our values.
· Support the Retail Development Manager in developing and testing new income streams, processes, and systems before moving to business-as-usual activities.
· Support the Retail Development Manager, Retail Area Managers, Head of Retail Property & Estates, and team in regularly reviewing our current retail estate, identifying maintenance and other improvements required.
Other duties:
· Support the development and execution of the ten-year Retail business strategy.
· Deliver key business insight to drive improvements through analysis.
· Provide regular KPI and metric reports on income to inform future decision-making and planning.
· Undertake additional duties outside the key job duties within the team and across the charity, as the charity may reasonably require.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will need:
· To ideally be educated to A Level or equivalent, or able to demonstrate experience in a similar role at a similar level.
· Have evidence of continued professional development relevant to the role's purpose and level.
· Experience in support of the delivery of multi-stakeholder projects.
· To have excellent business acumen and an in-depth understanding of market trends
· To have experience of working cross-functionally, both within an organisation and externally.
· To have experience in planning and implementing store openings.
· To have experience in using project management software such as Airtable and Sketchup.
· To be highly organised with good time management skills and the ability to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines.
· To have convincing and persuasive written, oral and presentation skills with the ability to present ideas and issues, clearly, and coherently to a wide range of audiences.
· To have excellent IT skills with confident use of Microsoft Office packages including Word, Advanced Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
· Project Management experience is desirable, including experience in keeping accurate documentation supporting project management.
· To have proven experience in developing retail processes for shops is desirable.
· Merchandising and/or retail display experience is desirable
· It is advantageous to hold a Project Management Qualification: IE APM, PRINCE2
