Job description

Domestic Abuse Practitioner (Community)
Working at our locations across Tendring, Colchester, Maldon, Chelmsford, Braintree and Uttlesford

We are Next Chapter, a domestic abuse charity that provides free and confidential services to support people who are currently experiencing, or have previously experienced, domestic abuse. We work across Tendring, Colchester, Maldon, Chelmsford, Braintree and Uttlesford.

Formerly known as Colchester & Tendring Women's Refuge, our mission is to provide rapid responses that increase safety for all victims, enabling them to rebuild their lives and create lasting change.

We are passionate about ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live their life free from domestic abuse. We’re currently looking for a Domestic Abuse Practitioner to join us on a 12 month fixed-term contract.

Your Role

As a Domestic Abuse Practitioner, you will provide a high-quality domestic abuse support service to women, men and their families.

Working as part of the Community Outreach Team, you will manage referrals both online and over the phone, as well as responding to live webchat enquiries via the website. 

Additionally, you will:

- Work with multiple agencies to ensure that individuals receive the best support possible
- Carry out an initial needs and risk assessment for individuals 
- Handle sensitive calls and deal with crisis intervention 
- Signpost individuals to any other beneficial services
- Maintain accurate and confidential service user records 

About You

To join us as a Domestic Abuse Practitioner, you will need:

- Experience of working with individuals experiencing domestic abuse and other vulnerabilities
- Previous experience of managing a caseload of service users with differing needs
- Experience of multi-agency legislative frameworks

Experience of any of the following would be beneficial: partnership working, representing organisations at external meetings and conferences, using qualitative and quantitative data to compile reports, working with other domestic abuse services, or creating and delivering domestic abuse awareness and training packages.
