A well known local charity VASA is a small charity (turnover £350k) supporting 4,000 people across Rugby, Solihull East and South Warwickshire with community activities, dementia services and our community transport service.
Following the decision of our long serving Charity Manager to move on to pastures new, we are seeking a dynamic individual to take on the role of Interim Charity Manager for an inital period of 6 months with the potential to be extended dependant subject to results and funding. The Interim will lead the charity forward building on relationships, strategy and partnerships fostered by our outgoing CM.
Our volunteer-led services have grown in the last decade to meet the growing needs of our community thanks to our dedicated volunteers and a forward thinking Board of Trustees and ambitious strategic plan.
The interim postholder will be expected to continue on from the work of the outgoing CM and undertake an indepth review of the business, working with the trustees on the next phase of our strategic plan and look for a bold funding and operating strategy.
To continue our good work and move VASA forward the apointee will be expected to:
- Identify growth opportunities for this service either geographically and/or by expanding the types of service offerings and ensure this is staffed to enable maximum growth.
- Maximise the newly installed transport support software to ensure that VASA is obtaining optimum benefit from it.
- Seek opportunities for expanding the dementia day services offering and the number of clients served.
As external grant funding is vital for VASA the appointee will be expected to:
- Work with the local authorities currently providing grant funding with the pupose of:
- Making clear the value of the services VASA provides.
- Securing, and if possible, increase the current level of funding.
- Seek other funding opportunities.
As financial security and governance is paramount to the charity the appointee must:
- Ensure full compliance (Charities Commission and Companies House).
- Develop new partnerships and nurture existing partnerships.
- Lead on fundraising to ensure financial sustainability

We work for better oral health for all through a number of interconnected programmes including advocating at global conferences and meetings, local groundwork throughout 28 volunteer Chapters, designing and recommending better oral health policies for national governments through our Policy Labs and more.
We are looking for a freelance Director of Operations and Finance to work for an average of 4 days a week for a total of 180 days a year. They will be part of the senior leadership team alongside the Chief Strategy and Advocacy Officer and the Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy
● Deliver our Operations and Finance KPIs as outlined in the Charity’s strategy; as well as being jointly responsible for the successful implementation of the full strategy.
● Lead and shape the Operations department, making sure it’s fit for purpose and maximising resources.
● Work collaboratively with senior management to maximise the success of the charity.
● Work closely and liaise regularly with the Chief Strategy & Advocacy Officer

● Manage the office and future office needs

People Management
● If needed, oversee the recruitment of new staff, coordinating the process managing the staff journey including inductions, staff surveys, annual reviews, and exits.

About you
Essential Criteria
● Must have a comprehensive knowledge of relevant systems, processes, policies, and procedures involved in the effective management of not-for-profit organisations.
● Demonstrable experience of financial management including, but not limited to, budget creation and reprofiling, forecasting, financial strategy, payments and invoicing, reconciling cashbook and bank accounts, VAT submission, and working with accountants on annual accounts.
● Requires possession of, or ability to quickly acquire specialist or professional knowledge of dental caries, and engagement in appropriate professional activities to keep knowledge base and skills up to date and develop them further.

We are looking for an experienced leader with key skills in line management, bid-writing and safeguarding, preferably with a qualification in social work. Our ideal candidate will be emotionally resilient, compassionate and empathetic with a proven background in managing people and overseeing service delivery. You will be responsible for service quality, operational strategies and policies, providing high-level support to a small, dedicated team of staff and volunteers and bid writing to secure long term funding for the charity to continue its vital work.
The charity provides support to vulnerable parents with pre-school aged children living in the borough of Gravesham, supporting up to 85 families at any given time. Waterside offers 1:1 support, peer group sessions, structured family sessions, access to local agency clinics, counselling services, and courses, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year.
Reporting to the Chair of Trustees, you will work with the team, trustees and external providers to ensure the delivery of impactful services and cultivation of strong partnerships in order to respond to the local needs of our families.
The Centre Manager role will be expected to work from the centre the majority of the time as it is important to have a presence with the families and staff. On occasion, when it is required to meet key deadlines, working from home is supported but this is on an ad-hoc basis and not part of a regular working pattern.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead, manage and co-ordinate the work of Waterside Parents’ Centre to ensure smooth running of the service.
• Designated Safeguarding Lead.
• Manage day-to-day operations, ensuring high-quality service delivery and adherence to best practices.
• Lead and support a dedicated team, providing supervision, training, and professional development opportunities.
• Ensure you are visible and approachable to the families we engage with specifically in family sessions.
• Effective bid writing to secure crucial funding for the charity
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, funders, and commissioners.
• Develop and implement strategic plans that align with the organisation’s goals and values.
• Manage all policies and procedures ensuring that they align with appropriate legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Work with the Finance Officer to ensure accuracy of financial recording and reporting.

The Director of Finance and Resources is responsible for managing the charity’s finances efficiently and accurately, ensuring that all financial activities are carried out in compliance with statutory, regulatory and contractual requirements. Playing a key role in strategic planning, including planning for future budgets and allocation of resources in collaboration with the CEO and Board, the Director of Finance & Resources also leads on HR and IT for the Trust and supports the implementation of good governance practices. The role oversees the production of monthly management accounts, line-managing the Finance Officer who takes care of day-to-day financial functions. You will provide financial recommendations to the Finance & Audit Committee (which meets quarterly), ensuring that the Trust’s financial practices adhere to statutory regulations and legislation. The Director of Finance & Resources also leads on the Trust’s annual audit and production of Annual accounts, filed with the Charity Commission. For this role you will need to have strong experience in finance, accounting or a related field, demonstrating excellent analytical skills and numerical proficiency alongside capability to think strategically and facility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Everyone associated with the Trust works remotely and has always done so. Our team, Board, volunteers and partners are UK-wide and so meetings and events are held regularly in London and across the country. You will report to the CEO and line manage the Finance Officer. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will regularly collaborate with our Board of trustees and, particularly, the Chair and members of the Finance & Audit Committee.
Some core hours will be required but a degree of flexible working will be possible. Some travel will be expected in order to attend in-person meetings. The Trust is committed to each team member’s professional development and offers regular opportunities to undertake formal and informal training.

The Role
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Corporate Services, this role will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the Charity complies with relevant legislation and regulations. The Head of Governance, Compliance & Risk will help maintain the ‘conscience of the charity’ to ensure that the Charity maintains public trust and executes its business in line with best practice. The role will be responsible for monitoring the compliance of legislative and regulatory requirements affecting the Charity and its activities.
The person will:
· Facilitate the smooth operation of the Charity’s formal decision-making governance structures (including Committees reporting to the Board), ensuring that all Board meetings and all Board Committees are properly constituted and provided with clear terms of reference.
· Ensure the Charity complies with its Articles of Association and where appropriate drafting and incorporating amendments in accordance with correct procedures, including management of any governance issues for the Charity Commission.
· Review and monitor procedures to ensure that the Charity complies with the requirements of the Charity Commission and charity legislation alongside other company law and Company House requirements.
· Maintain the following registers and respond to appropriate requests concerning information they contain: Members of the Board of Trustees, Trustees’ interests, Gifts and hospitality accepted and refused, Persons with significant control register and Governance of the Donors register (adherence to GDPR).
· Be responsible for facilitating the proper induction of Trustees into their role, advising and assisting them in their duties and responsibilities.
· Update and review governance policies and procedures and ensure their effective implementation.
· Design and develop mechanisms to ensure that there is a robust framework for compliance with legislative, regulatory and policy requirements and that this is in line with best practice.
· Provide advice to staff on compliance with legislation, regulation and policies. This includes researching and investigating matters, challenging existing practice and agreeing new ways of working where required.
· Lead on the Charity’s whistleblowing arrangements and support the ‘Freedom to Speak Up Champion’ in the investigation and management of whistleblowing matters.
· Design and maintain key registers and declarations in line with internal and external requirements. This will include the development of other key internal compliance registers, including those relating to contracts, complaints and policies.
· Manage the Governance, Compliance and Risk Officer to support the operation and logistics of the governance, compliance and risk related work.
· Contribute, as a member of the Charity’s management team, to the wider strategic projects and developments.
· Work flexibly to support any governance, compliance, risk and legal responsibilities or other duties commensurate with the post.
The successful candidate will have:
· Qualification in corporate governance or relevant experience.
· Experience of servicing and supporting Boards and committees and advising on complex governance matters.
· Detailed knowledge of corporate governance practices, standards and methodologies, and proven experience of their application.
· Working knowledge of data protection legislation and its application.
· Outstanding communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with the proven ability to build strong relationships and influence others.
· A high degree of personal integrity and the ability to work with tact, diplomacy and discretion.
