We are seeking an experienced lawyer to provide strategic legal insight into Martingale’s operations. As a research funder, we are particularly interested in professionals with expertise in intellectual property law, specifically as it applies to research and development at the intersection of academia and industry.

Martingale Foundation is proud to receive pro bono legal support from a prestigious law firm, who support us in our legal needs such as university partnership agreements, data protection compliance, and scholarship administration. Currently incubated by Purposeful Ventures, Martingale benefits from expert oversight on matters including Charity Commission registration, reporting, and IPO compliance. As we prepare for our next chapter, becoming an independent charity, we are seeking an individual who will play a pivotal role in shaping Martingale’s future. 

In this role, you will work closely with the Head of Strategy and Operations to ensure we not only meet but exceed compliance standards, helping to lay a strong foundation for our long-term impact. Requirements:

• Qualified lawyer 
• Experience of UK research and innovation sector
• Knowledge of intellectual property law, particularly as it relates to university research (desirable)
• Experience of working with a rapidly growing or fast-paced organisation
• Able to take a broad perspective on Martingale’s activities, and highlight areas of risk and remedial actions
• Experience of working with charities for example as a Trustee (desirable)

Job Description:

• Provide expert legal insights on a range of matters, including contracts, employment and HR, data protection, contracts / grant agreements with funders and universities, and charity governance, complementing the pro bono legal support we receive
• Signpost to other sources of support and information outside of their area of expertise
• When Martingale prepares to become an independent charity, provide support and oversight to the Head of Strategy and Operations with spin-out processes as they relate to compliance, including TUPE, charity registration and governance documents, ICO registration etc. Ensure Board members understand the legal duties and responsibilities of trustees
• Once Martingale becomes an independent charity, ensure the Foundation meets all necessary compliance requirements
• Ensure effective monitoring and management of risk

We are looking for dedicated and experienced individuals to join our team at Sharewear Clothing Scheme as volunteer Trustees. In particular we are seeking to recruit a Chair of the Board of Trustees and are also interested in members of the Board of Trustees. Those with expertise in marketing, fundraising, financial management, safeguarding, people management or operational delivery would be particularly welcome. We are looking for individuals with previous experience as a trustee or other applicable skills to contribute through this volunteer role to our continued growth and achieving our mission.

Hospital Visitor Volunteer

Hospital Visitor volunteers visit hospital settings to ensure that people detained under the Mental Health Act are aware that they have a legal right to an IMHA qualified advocate.  The volunteers are instrumental in ensuring that clients get access to an advocate and can also support the work that advocates undertake. 

As a hospital volunteer, you might:

• hold drop-in sessions
• attend events and ward meetings at local facilities
• share information
• assist people to request advocacy support by completing a form online or calling our contact centre

All volunteering will take place Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00.  You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that there is no opportunity to volunteer at weekends or in the evening.

We are looking to recruit a Group Coordinator for our Asian MS group. As our Group Coordinator you’ll take the lead in making sure your local group works as effectively as possible. You’ll recruit, induct and support other group volunteers to make sure your group’s activities meet the needs of your local MS community. Practical experience and transferable skills in warehousing and food redistribution.

As a sustainability charity, we take surplus food that's donated to us and redistribute it to people in need. The front line initiatives we support include food banks, schools, community groups and charities who, in turn, help people who are disadvantaged by poverty.

Our vital work supports people experiencing extreme hardship and prevents perfectly good food going to landfill, where it would otherwise contribute to climate warming. 

We need helping hands in our busy warehouse to receive and catalogue supplies, to load and unload vans, and to prepare orders for delivery. In return we offer training and support to help you obtain skills and experience to boost your CV if you are seeking work. This role is vital to the work of FareShare, ensuring that the food in our warehouse is correctly sorted, labelled and organised into orders placed by our charities and community groups.

It is perfect for someone who is:

a) Looking for a practical activity.

b) Looking for experience and skills to gain employment in the food industry, warehousing and customer service.

c) Wanting to help their community and/or help tackle global warming.

d) Wanting to make new friends.

e) Wanting to keep busy and/or physically fit.

Our volunteer opportunities are available Monday to Friday, for a whole or half day, with shifts between 8:30-am - 12:30pm and 12:30 - 4:30pm. Volunteers are typically involved for one day a week.

What will I be doing?

Receiving, sorting, cataloguing and storing chilled and ambient surplus food in a warehouse, and preparing orders for delivery. You may also be assisting customers when they pick up their orders.

Ensuring food quality and safety by checking ‘use by’ and ‘best before’ dates.

Sorting and unpacking deliveries, categorising and recording food.

Assembling food orders placed by charities and community groups.

Assisting our Community Food Members with their food order collections. 

Maintaining health and safety and food hygiene standards. 

Helping with cleaning and other tasks identified by warehouse staff.

Person Specification: 

Must be reasonably physically fit to carry out tasks, including lifting and loading.

Have a good command of English in order to understand and follow instructions and health and safety rules. 

Have basic literacy and numeracy skills to record quantities and types of food donated.

Able to work in a manner that respects Health and Safety standards.

Be happy to complete tasks independently according to instruction.

Be positive, friendly and enthusiastic about tackling food waste and food poverty.

Must be reliable and able to commit to an agreed session/day.

Office Volunteer – can you help?

The Hospice Lottery Partnership is looking for someone that could spare a few hours a week at our office based in Tring to help the admin team work on various tasks such as processing return envelopes, franking, and collation of mailings etc. 

If you would enjoy the company of a small and friendly team with copious supply of tea and biscuits, then we would love to hear from you!

We run a weekly lottery in support of local charities: East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals’ Charity, Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, Harlington Hospice, London North West Healthcare Charity, Michael Sobell Hospice Charity, Rennie Grove Hospice Care, South Bucks Hospice, and The Hospice of St Francis.

Transport Volunteer
