The society is looking to recruit a Financial Officer due to the impending retirement of the current postholder. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will commence employment in July 2026.
Purpose of the role:
- Provide sound financial advice to the Board of Trustees (Council), BMUS Officers, COO (Chief Operating Officer) and others.
- Provide a high-quality and effective financial management service to the charity.
- Prepare, develop and analyse management accounting information to ensure compliance with all relevant financial, statutory and regulatory matters.
Main Duties
- To oversee and support the society’s financial management systems and processes, ensuring they meet required financial management and reporting standards.
- Submissions to statutory bodies and regulators.
- Submission of monthly PAYE and quarterly VAT to HMRC.
- To prepare the society’s annual budget.
- To prepare regular management accounts and supporting reports, including forecasts for Council, Officers and COO.
- To process all invoices/payments.
- To record all income and expenditure.
- To oversee banking arrangements.
- To prepare end-of-year reports, arrange the independent examination and the society’s Annual Report for the Annual General Meeting.
- Support CASE (Consortium of Accreditation of Sonographic Education).
- Manage the financial management systems for the consortium.
- Preparation of the consortium’s annual budget.
- Payment of invoices.
- To record all income and expenditure.
- Prepare the end of financial year report.

Role Overview:
As a Charity Fundraiser with Social Media and Digital Marketing experience, you will play a pivotal role in raising awareness and funds for our cause. You will leverage your expertise in fundraising, social media strategy, and digital marketing to develop and execute innovative campaigns that inspire individuals and organisations to engage and contribute. This is an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact through creative and strategic digital campaigns.
We are in early discussions with a potential Patron which would significantly boost our profile, and we are in particular looking to develop partnerships with large corporate donors in line with their CSR obligations.

Key Responsibilities:
Although mostly working autonomously, you will be working with, and representing SCUK on the international Marketing and Communications Advisory Group to ensure a cohesive approach (the Communications and fund raising teams from the various Stephen’s Children entities in other nations):
- Fundraising Strategy & Campaigns:
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies that align with the charity’s mission and goals.
- Manage and grow fundraising campaigns across multiple platforms, including social media, email, and digital channels, as well as occasionally organising and attending fund raising events.
- Identify and engage potential donors, sponsors, and corporate CSR partners to grow the charity’s financial support base.
- Organize and manage online and occasional in person fundraising events, appeals, and virtual initiatives.
- Social Media & Digital Marketing:
- Create and manage engaging content across various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, etc.) to promote fundraising efforts, events, and the charity's mission.
- Develop and execute digital marketing campaigns, including email marketing, paid ads, and influencer collaborations.
- Build a strong online community of supporters and engage with followers through comments, messages, and interactive posts.
- Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all digital channels.
- Donor Relationship Management:
- Maintain and nurture relationships with current and prospective donors through regular communication, updates, and stewardship.
- Coordinate and distribute newsletters [?] and reports for donors, showcasing the impact of their contributions.

- Collaborate with the global content team to create compelling communications to a UK audience that showcase the charity’s impact and inspire action.

Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in fundraising, particularly within the charity sector or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and grow online communities and donor bases.
- Strong understanding of digital marketing, with a focus on social media and online campaigns.
- Excellent communication and writing skills, with the ability to craft compelling content for different digital platforms.
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills to effectively communicate when speaking in person to supporters and potential supporters, including Trust and Corporate grant applications.
- Creative mindset with the ability to think outside the box to drive engagement and fundraising results.
- Proficiency in social media management tools and digital advertising platforms.
- Familiarity with fundraising platforms (e.g., JustGiving, GoFundMe, Virgin Giving etc) and donor management tools (e.g. Raiser’s Edge etc.)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to track, measure, and report on campaign performance.
- Strong organisational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple campaigns at once.
- Passionate about the charity’s mission and Christian values, and committed to making a difference.
- Availability to visit the work in Cairo at least once per year (funded by the Charity).

About the team
The Philanthropy Team raises income for Impetus and for Impetus partner charities. The team consists of 15 staff. Impetus has an annual income of c.£11 million which we are looking to grow significantly within the next few years. The team is led by the Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships.
The Philanthropy Team works with major donors, corporates and grant making trusts, as well as collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to ensure we make a compelling case to generate new financial commitments and wider support for our work. About this role
This role is a 12‑month maternity cover, supporting an important phase of delivery and development within the Philanthropy team. The postholder will work closely with colleagues to maintain momentum in new business activity while contributing to strategic account management and stewardship.
The Head of Development is a senior role within the Philanthropy Team, with a primary focus on new business development. This includes identifying, cultivating and securing new funding relationships across trusts, foundations, corporates, co‑investment partners and high‑net‑worth individuals.
Alongside new business delivery, the role also provides strategic account management for a small portfolio of high-value partners, ensuring smooth transitions from acquisition into long term stewardship.
This role works alongside the Head of Philanthropy, with both roles contributing to the success of the Philanthropy Team. The Head of Philanthropy leads on deep stewardship and retention, while the Head of Development focusses on new income generation and building relationships with new funders and partners.
The postholder will work closely with the Director of Philanthropy & Partnerships, Philanthropy Directors as well as Senior Research and Insights Manager, contributing specialist expertise, strong delivery and sound judgement, while operating within agreed strategy and governance frameworks.
Key responsibilities:
New business development
- Support the Director of Philanthropy & Partnerships and Development Director on the development and delivery of the new business plan in line with the fundraising strategy
- Works with the Senior Research and Insights Manager to identify emerging funding trends, opportunities, market opportunities and best practice
- In collaboration with the Development Director and Growth and Insights Director, lead the delivery of agreed cultivation strategies for priority prospects, proactively progressing relationships from qualification through to solicitation and conversion, leveraging senior stakeholders, board members, donor advocates and wider networks
- Develop and deliver compelling cultivation strategies and tailored pitch plans for priority prospects, including designing and building new donor acquisition vehicles (e.g. committees, cultivation events and targeted communications), working collaboratively with colleagues across Impetus

Person specification
Essential:
- A strong track record of raising six-figure+ philanthropic income from grant-making trusts and foundations, corporate foundations and/or individual donors, including experience with high-net-worth individuals

About the Role
This is an exciting role that will lead the successful growth and delivery of the Smart Works Pop Up Shops and sales, other fundraising events and the community fundraising programme. Managing the Events and Community Manager(s), you will work closely with the Wardrobe and wider Partnerships Team to deliver exceptional events, raise vital funds and secure stock for clients and fundraising.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a robust strategy of Pop up shops and Sales, Events and Community Fundraising, to generate £800k+ of in-year income, and bolster future financial and community engagement opportunities.
The candidate will also work closely with the Head of Wardrobe and Retail Partnerships Manager, growing partnerships with retail brands which support Smart Works’ activities.
We seek a Head with experience in delivering end-to-end events, as well as demonstrable experience of fundraising through retail activations. An ability to work under pressure, deliver to tight deadlines, juggle conflicting priorities and exceed set targets will be key.

As Head of Finance, you will be a member of the Executive Team, supporting the Chief Executive with the overall direction and long-term financial viability of the Charity. You will be accountable for developing and implementing the organisation’s financial strategy, delivering effective financial planning, monitoring and reporting, and maintaining sound financial and risk management systems.

About you:
This role will suit a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with senior-level finance leadership experience in a charity or not-for-profit organisation of comparable scale. You will bring strong technical knowledge of Charity SORP, charity law and financial governance, a collaborative leadership style, and the confidence to operate with minimum direction in a small Executive Team. Experience of company secretarial duties and charity governance is essential.

The Biochemical Society is seeking to recruit an Independent Member for its People, Remuneration and Nomination (PRN) Committee to serve an initial five-year term of office, with the potential to extend to a maximum eight year term, with attendance at five meetings per year, for which reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. This is a hands-on role which will see you deliver key activity as well as lead a small team in prioritising and evaluating work across digital channels, using data and insight to inform decisions. To spearhead and champion our digital marketing transformation, you’ll need to be a results driven and experienced professional, who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Your skills and passion will see you:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive digital marketing strategy aligned with our income growth objectives.
• Deliver and continually improve how we connect with our audiences, primarily through (but not limited to) strategic use of email, website management, SEO, PPC, paid social and CRM marketing.
• Identify opportunities to maximise online brand awareness, engagement and revenue generation.
• Track, analyse and report on digital performance metrics, owning KPIs for traffic, conversion, income and engagement, as well as providing actionable insights and data to improve and inform digital marketing effectiveness.
• Own website performance by managing content within the CMS, improving user journeys, implementing SEO best practices and using data and analytics to increase visibility, traffic and conversion rates.
• Plan, execute and optimise our paid advertising accounts, including Google Ads and paid social platforms (e.g. Meta), using A/B testing to ensure they are data-driven, cost efficient and deliver ROI and income.
• Lead and deliver email and CRM activity (including building campaigns, managing audiences, segmentation and automation), ensuring data, templates and journeys are optimised for engagement and conversion, using performance and insights to drive improvements.
• Embed a culture of data-driven decision making and bring visibility and transparency to digital marketing activity by regularly reporting impact against objectives, trend spotting as well as using a variety of data and analytics tools to raise the profile and understanding of digital marketing across the charity.
• Work closely with the Data team to ensure digital and data strategies align and data between digital channels is automated, accurate and can be reported on effectively.
• Safeguard the integrity of the charity’s digital presence ensuring it complies with data protection regulations and any other applicable legislation.
