Operations Director:

A new post at the Longford Trust, created at an exciting time of growth and development for the charity.

- A 3 day-a-week role;

- Reporting to the Director and working as part of the Senior Management Team of the trust, within an overall cohort of eight, all part-time posts;

- Paid pro-rata of £50-55,000 depending on experience via PAYE with pensions contributions;

- The trust has no physical office, so team members work remotely, with flexible hours, but all team members work Tuesdays. There are regular face-to-face team meetings, as well as one-to-ones, so easy access to London an advantage.

Essential qualities you need to be able to demonstrate:

Who we are and what we do

The Longford Trust was set up in 2002. Each November, it stages an annual Longford Lecture and awards an annual Longford Prize. Our Longford Scholarship programme supports young serving and ex-prisoners to continue their rehabilitation by going to university. It is the only programme of its type across the UK, supporting more than 600 individuals so far, with over 100 current award-holders, as well as many alumni who continue to be part of the trust. Between 80 and 85% of those we support go on to graduate, move into employment and build new lives. Our scholarship programme accounts for more than three quarters of our expenditure

About the role

The Chief Operating Officer at GLAN will play a crucial role in steering the team in the successful implementation of the charity’s organisational strategy, and will be responsible for ensuring the day-to-day smooth running of the organisation – in order to build a sustainable, compliant, resilient and well-governed organisation.

The ideal candidate

We are looking for an experienced leader with a proven track-record of delivering financial oversight and overseeing complex budgets and projects to completion in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for someone who possesses excellent people skills, who is emotionally intelligent and can guide a dynamic team remotely.

The Chief Operating Officer will be responsible for the delivery of core services and will manage a core team of staff to deliver Finance, HR, Fundraising, Communications and Governance.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in a similar role, with in depth understanding of how charitable, purpose driven organisations operate. Senior Leadership

• Lead the Senior Leadership team in the implementation of our revised organisational strategy 2027-2030.
• Ensure organisation-wide financial oversight and operational business planning.

Operational oversight

• Maintain operational oversight so that legal, advocacy, funding and finance align with GLAN’s organisational strategy.

Financial oversight

• Oversee financial operations: budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, expenditure controls, financial reporting, payroll.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, audit requirements and donor / funder financial reporting obligations.
• Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, banks, and financial service providers.
• Ensure best practices are followed and financial risk is identified and managed appropriately.

Operations

We’ve made substantial progress in recent years, with improvements and expansions to our delivery model and significant growth in our staff team. To support this growth, we are recruiting for a full time National Director of Operations to lead our delivery across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and emerging community settings, with an ambition to reach Scotland. As National Director of Operations, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for our learning programmes in prisons and community settings. You will ensure high‑quality, consistent and accessible delivery, overseeing a team of six Regional Managers and a wider workforce of around 65 staff, volunteers and over 2,000 peer mentors trained each year.

Working closely with senior colleagues, partner organisations and national bodies such as HMPPS, you will drive programme excellence, innovation and partnership working. Reporting into the Board of Trustees, we are seeking an inspirational CEO for the PDA Society, who can lead with humility and curiosity, empowering and supporting our staff along the journey. They will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the charity and its staff and volunteers, and will oversee the development of our training products, research and support services, whilst ensuring sustainable growth in impact and income.

Strategic Finance Transformation Lead - 6 months Contract (with possible extension), Fully Remote

We're looking for a senior finance leader to reimagine and transform the finance function at 38 Degrees.
This role aims to ensure that finance has the relevant operational setup. The role is also responsible for moving finance from transactional to truly strategic, embedding insight, governance and clarity at the heart of decision making.
Reporting to an empowering COO, you'll design a modern, proportionate finance model that enables impact, accountability and sustainable growth.

Hybrid: Fully remote - with travel to London and organisational events as needed.
Salary: £62,472 - £68,536 per annum. 38 Degrees is currently piloting a four-day week at full salary.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead the redesign of the finance operating model, shifting from fragmented, admin-heavy processes to a lean, insight-led and strategically aligned function
• Review and streamline financial policies, processes and structures, eliminating duplication, shadow administration and unnecessary complexity
• Design and implement a simplified finance model that maximises value from outsourced accountancy and bookkeeping provision
• Deliver high-quality financial reporting, insight and scenario analysis to support the COO and Directors in strategic decision making
• Establish and embed clear, proportionate governance, controls and accountability across the organisation
• Oversee and reset relationships with outsourced finance providers, auditors, banks and systems suppliers to ensure effective, value-driven delivery

Person Specification

• Extensive experience leading finance transformation, redesign or turnaround in a complex, fast-paced environment
• Proven ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels, influencing senior stakeholders and non-finance leaders with credibility
• Strong background in finance business partnering, translating complex financial information into clear, accessible insight
• Demonstrable experience working with outsourced or shared-service finance models and managing third-party providers
• Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), with a strong grasp of governance, risk and compliance
• Very strong experience on Charity SORP

Interim Finance Manager (Maternity Cover)
Location: Fully remote
Contract: Fixed-term (May 2026 – December 2026); full-time role, but open to 4 days per week subject to flexibility aligned to organisational needs

I am excited to be working with an international not-for-profit organisation to recruit an experienced Interim Finance Manager. This is a hands-on role responsible for maintaining financial records, delivering accurate reporting, and supporting process improvements during a key period.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will oversee core finance operations for the UK and ensure the integrity of accounting records for the UK entity, plus small subsidiaries in Kenya and Hong Kong.

Key responsibilities:

• Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate transactional processing
• Lead month-end close, including reconciliations and reporting
• Prepare monthly management accounts and support forecasting
• Own the balance sheet, including asset register and depreciation
• Manage international payments
• Support purchase ledger processes as required
• Prepare VAT returns and perform FX revaluations
• Contribute to improving financial processes and controls

About you:

• Proven experience across core accounting functions and month-end processes
• Experience producing management accounts
• Strong Excel skills and systems experience
• Part-qualified or fully qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA or equivalent)

You will be detail-oriented, organised, and able to work independently to tight deadlines, with a proactive approach to improving processes.
