Job description

About the role

We have an exciting role available to join the team at Mare Street, where you can develop valuable skills and experience while playing a key role in providing support to St Mungo’s clients.  

Mare Street Hostel is located in Hackney and provides 68 placements for men and women aged 18-65yrs. The service offers medium - high support for men and women with a Hackney connection at risk of homelessness or rough sleeping and have additional support needs which include substance use, mental health and those with longer term complex needs. 

What you will do 

In the role of Housing Management Assistant, you will be the first point of contact at reception for St Mungo’s clients and visitors and have the opportunity to create a welcoming and supportive environment within the project. Other responsibilities will include: 

  • Work alongside the team to provide a person-centred support to residents and clients. 

  • To provide excellent customer service at first contact and reception, including handling phone calls, post, and all reception enquiries. 

  • To support with collecting and recording weekly service charges, maintaining resident rent records and ensure that arrears are managed in line with the project’s policy. 

  • To report any maintenance issues and follow up promptly; clearing and preparing void rooms. 

  • Coordinating important Health and Safety checks and other administrative duties. 

Working days will be 8.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday (including Bank Holidays) 

About you

  • Excellent communication skills, and some experience of dealing directly with the public and/or clients or customers in a busy service environment. 

  • Personal experience of homelessness and/or an understanding of; and empathy for the issues faced by people experiencing homelessness. 

  • A genuine interest in helping vulnerable people to make positive changes in their life, and the willingness to develop these valuable skills. 

  • Good organisational skills, with basic IT and admin skills.
