The Role: Deputy Chief Executive/Finance Manager

About the role

This role provides tactical and targeted support to our District teams as we seek to enable our volunteers to deliver training to both cadets and volunteers in line with the Sea Cadets Learning Strategy.  This post is responsible for supporting the delivery of the district training, including Royal Marine Cadet (RMC) training activity at Troop level. The work location can be flexible (home or office-based) requiring regular evening and weekend working supporting our volunteers by attending virtual meetings and delivering online training.

Responsibilities

• To provide functional support to our area Training Managers and District and RMC Troop Teams, ensure the district training plans are delivered, amended as necessary throughout the year, to the training plan and in line with identified training needed to best support the delivery of the Sea Cadet Experience.
• To support specific District Teams including the District Training Officer (DTO), District Recreational Officer/ Deputy District Officer (DRO/DDO), District Staff Officers (DSO), and RMC Troop Commanders (Trp Cdr) identified as requiring support under our change management process.
• To work closely with all District Officers to increase the number of certificated, current and competent instructors, and develop the capability and capacity of District Instructors to deliver training to cadets and volunteers across all Districts.
• To support the ATOs/DTOs/RMC Troops in all training matters (including uniformed and unit management teams) with a specific focus on Districts/Troops that need support.
• Support our Programmes and Virtual Training Manager with the co-ordination the of delivery of appropriate MSSC and other approved training packages (including BTEC, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award) appropriate to the age and experience of cadets across the organisation.
• Work under the leadership of our Assistant Director Sea Cadet Learning monitor performance against set targets set by the National Support Centre to ensure equitable access for cadets and adults to the Sea Cadet Experience.

• • Experience in working with youth groups and awareness and understanding on the challenges young people face.
  • Experience in coordinating and supporting a programme of training activity.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring volunteers.
  • Experience of drawing data to create support plans for delivery of activity.

Main Purpose of the Role:

To be responsible for the implementation and day to day project management of the individual giving programme across both existing and new fundraising products, maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, members, volunteers and internal teams across Mothers’ Union to ensure the success of the appeals. As part of a small team you will be working closely with and under the direction of the Head of Individual Giving.

Key Responsibilities:

• To project manage multiple appeals delivering accurate campaigns on time, on budget to a high standard, meeting agreed targets.
• Analyse and interpret direct marketing campaign results, and produce regular reports, drawing conclusions, completing campaign reviews and making recommendations to improve future activity such as targeting and testing suggestions to improve performance of the programme and feed into longer term strategic plans.
• Ensure all materials produced are accurate and compliant with relevant data protection and gift aid legislation (where applicable). Undertaking all activities in line with best practice standards and processes as set out by the IoF, Fundraising Regulator and any other bodies as prompted by the Head of Individual Giving.
• Write campaign briefs including campaign objectives, creative, digital, print and production briefs, feeding into decisions on creative approaches, copy and all technical aspects of the direct marketing programmes
• Write or amend existing copy and proof-read accurately. Critique, manage and evaluate work by external or internal agencies to a high standard and high level of accuracy
• Lead contact for our face to face fundraising activity, from briefing, monitoring and reconciliation to delivering training and fulfilling requests, including coordination of visits to Mother's Union projects
• Lead on any challenge events or wider individual DIY fundraising or organisational  income generating events as assigned, meeting agreed targets set by the Head of Individual Giving.
• Monitoring, managing and reporting of key KPIs including campaign income, spend and other performance metrics on a regular basis. Reporting to the Head of Individual Giving, highlighting variances and updating fundraising team reports making sure information is accurate and reconciled where necessary.
• Designing and delivering targeted training programmes for groups of fundraisers or members on behalf of Mothers’ Union as well as providing effective one-to-one campaign support as required.

Work Location/Hybrid Working Pattern

This role will be based at our Head Office in central London. Mothers’ Union operates a hybrid working model. Person specification

We are looking for a Digital Platforms Executive to manage our App, CRM system and website among others. Reporting directly to our CEO, you will play a crucial role in helping us enhance user engagement, streamline our digital communications, and maximise the impact of our online presence.

We are a small, dynamic team, so there is also plenty of scope to get involved with other things and gain an insight into all areas of the charity, with opportunities for growth and development.

About the role

As Digital Platform Executive you will:

• Drive user acquisition and retention strategies for our App (sidekick by Suicide&Co). 

• Collaborate with developers to implement new features based on user feedback and engagement metrics.

• Monitor performance and user analytics to inform continuous improvement.

• Develop and manage in-app communication strategies, including push notifications and updates, to enhance user engagement.

• Coordinate with content creators to ensure timely and relevant messaging within the App.

• Oversee the in-app customer support system, ensuring prompt and effective responses to user inquiries and issues.

• Implement feedback mechanisms to gather user insights and improve App functionality.

• Develop and implement strategies to optimise the use of our CRM system (HubSpot) for client, donor and stakeholder engagement.

• Ensure data integrity and security and provide training to staff on CRM functionalities on new processes or underutilised tools.

• Analyse CRM data to inform improvements to client experience and improve donor stewardship. 

• Maintain and update our website, ensuring content is current, accurate, and aligned with branding guidelines.

• Optimise website performance, user experience, and accessibility across devices.

• Implement SEO best practices to increase organic traffic and visibility.

• Launch and manage our Google Ads Grant account, creating and optimising campaigns to maximize reach and impact.

About you

The Kennington Association (KA) is a registered charity and active community organisation based in North Lambeth. In 2013, the KA rescued the historic Lollard Street Adventure Playground (LSAP) from impending closure, brought on by local government spending cuts. With sustained funding from leading grant makers, the playground has since gone from strength to strength, winning Coolest Place to Play in the 2015 London Play Adventure Play Awards. It is now embarking on further development with a capital programme to replace the indoor play spaces, having already replaced the outdoor play structures and built new changing facilities which make our two sports pitches accessible to children with special needs. LSAP is a vibrant, welcoming space where children can engage in free play, and it offers a dynamic and rewarding environment for staff and volunteers alike.

Role Purpose

Winston’s Wish is a digital first organisation leading the way in Digital Transformation across the Bereavement sector. This role is new and exciting and will play a vital part in helping Winston’s Wish turn up the dial across our high value fundraising.

As Philanthropy Manager you will be responsible for growing income from major donors and Trusts and Foundations through excellent donor stewardship. Leading a team of committed Trust fundraisers, you will focus on identifying prospective individual donors and foundations and develop lasting relationships with them. You will also support the management of relationships with existing donors, ensuring all donors have an excellent experience of supporting Winston’s Wish and understand the impact of their support on the lives of grieving children.

Main Responsibilities

Leadership

• To lead and inspire the Philanthropy team fostering a collaborative and high culture that delivers against income and objectives.
• Provide clear and supportive leadership that motivates staff to achieve, develop and grow in their roles.
• Undertake quarterly reviews for all direct reports.

Philanthropy Fundraising

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with high-value donors, ensuring effective solicitation, stewardship, and follow-up to secure significant contributions (six-figure gifts).
• Build and maintain a portfolio of Trust & Grants supporters. Responsible for researching, approaching and developing compelling applications with a focus on ensuring Trusts & Grants provide a long-term, diverse and sustainable income stream.
• Lead the development and stewardship of the Philanthropy board to identify and secure transformational (6-7 figure) gifts and the development of the Business development Board to open opportunities with Corporate Partners.
• Write and design a compelling case for support that is tailored to our High Value audiences.
• Lead on planning and delivering successful high value cultivation events.
• Represent Winston’s Wish at fundraising events and meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
• You will identify new major donors and Trusts and Foundations who have the potential to make a significant difference to the lives of grieving children. You will develop and implement cultivation strategies to turn prospects into supporters.
• You will work with the Individual Giving Manager to identify mid-level donors who could be stewarded into the major donor pipeline.

Strategy, Planning and reporting

•  You will work alongside the Director of Income Generation to support the development and implementation of a new Philanthropy strategy covering development of a prospect pipeline, building a culture of peer referrals, annual targets and personalised engagement plans.
• Lead on developing and delivering effective stewardship journeys and cultivation plans.
• Produce regular reports on fundraising activity, analysing performance against targets, and identifying areas for improvement and growth.
• Work with the Director of Income Generation to develop the annual budget, including leading on monthly performance reports and contributing to quarterly reforecasts and reporting against KPI’s and milestones.
• Undertake research and make use of tools to identify potential High Value partners.

Collaboration

• Work closely with the Director of Income Generation, SLT and other teams to maximise high value fundraising opportunities.
• Where appropriate, you will involve Winston’s Wish senior staff and the Board of Trustees to make the most of opportunities to engage and build relationships with existing and potential supporters.

• Contribute to the vision and mission of Winston's Wish; whilst embedding the values into your daily work activities.

Rainforest Trust is a leading global organisation sponsoring the creation and expansion of protected and conserved areas, playing a central role in combating biodiversity loss and fighting climate change. Rainforest Trust UK (RTUK) is set up as a separate charity to tax-efficiently raise funds from donors here in the UK for Rainforest Trust’s conservation projects. We are currently a team of seven people, but we are affiliated to, and supported by, the Rainforest Trust team in the U.S., which has a team of 45 staff. 

In 2023 the global charity raised $46 million for conservation projects in Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. Last year the UK charity contributed £2.7m of this, and we are confident there is significant potential to increase our income from donors here. So, we are looking for an experienced Finance and Administrative Officer to join our small UK team to help us manage an increasing number of donations.

This is a varied role which will offer the successful candidate exposure to a wide range of tasks and responsibilities, including bank reconciliations, financial and performance reporting, some data upkeep and systems improvements. You will need to be good at juggling competing priorities, well-organised with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities (see attached job description for full list)

Finance (~80% of role)

• Carry out weekly bank reconciliations using Xero.

• Maintaining records of expenditure, processing monthly expenses, paying invoices.

• Prepare HMRC Gift Aid claims and maintain records of Gift Aid donations and payments.

• Assist with annual external financial audits.

• Import bank transactions onto CRM database and ensure donations are assigned to correct conservation projects.

• Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual management accounts and annual budgets.

Administration (~20% of role)

• Maintain all accounts on UK portals (Benevity, Charities Aid Foundation, etc) and process, track and reconcile all portal donations, soft crediting these where necessary.

• Suggest changes or improvements to both financial and administrative processes (including automations) to increase accuracy, efficiency and potential cost reductions, then implement where agreed.

• Support with HR administration - keeping personnel and Trustee files up to date, keeping records of sickness, holidays and other absences, drafting new policies.

Working Arrangements and Travel Requirements

Rainforest Trust UK staff work remotely and the successful candidate will be expected to work primarily from home with an excellent internet connection. They may be based anywhere in the UK but will be expected to travel to work from a shared team space in London 1 day per month. We are also flexible as to when the Officer works the available hours across the week.
