As Research Development and Engagement Manager, you will lead engagement with researchers, our patient community, and external partners to develop and support new research collaborations. This includes leading the Public and Patient Involvement activity for a 12-month National Institute of Health Research-funded Programme Development Grant, the ICAST Programme: Improving Care for patients with Smell & Taste Disorders, and undertaking planning work for the prospective Programme Grant which is expected to follow this.

This post is funded for 2 days (15 hours) per week for an initial 12-month period, with the potential for the contract to be extended and for it to become a full-time role subject to further funding being secured.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the SmellTaste contribution to a 12-month National Institute of Health Research-funded Programme Development Grant, led by Prof Carl Philpott at the University of East Anglia (the ICAST Programme: Improving Care for patients with Smell & Taste Disorders).  
• Develop a Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) strategy for the above project, including evaluation of impact and dissemination
• Manage a PPI panel for the NIHR project, organise PPIE meetings and ensure participants and panel members are remunerated for activity.
• Develop a detailed, costed delivery plan for the national survey element of the planned Programme Grant which is expected to follow on from the Programme Development Grant, including marketing and publicity, recruitment and dissemination.
• Work with the charity’s CEO and honorary Director of Research and Medical Affairs to develop a research strategy for the charity that aligns with the research priorities identified in the James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership for Smell and Taste Disorders.
• Work with the charity’s CEO, honorary Director of Research and Medical Affairs and external researchers to identify opportunities for new collaborative research opportunities.
• Develop funding applications for research projects.
• Oversee all of the charity’s collaborative research activity, including PPIE activity.
• Evaluate and report on the impact of research projects, ensuring inclusivity and ethical standards.

Personal specification

• Degree (or equivalent experience) in biological sciences or a related field
• Experience leading or supporting public and patient involvement and engagement initiatives in research
• Experience leading or supporting involvement in research
• Experience of writing grant applications
• Ability to communicate and interpret complex scientific research clearly
• Experience working with diverse and underrepresented communities

Hours: Part-time, 15 hours per week

Salary: £40,000, pro-rata

Project Manager (Cascade Wellbeing Project)

Part Time – 21 hours (3 days) per week

Salary £24,000 (£40,000 FTE)

We are seeking a Project Manager to deliver the Cascade Project – a partnership between the St Benedict’s Centre and the Diocese of Rochester. The project aims to develop a programme of initiatives and interventions to support frontline church leaders (lay and ordained, including Headteachers of church schools) with their wellbeing.

The project has been under development for the past year. The Project Manager will lead the project from development to implementation. Funding has been committed by the Church Commissioners for the first 4 years of the implementation period.

The Project Manager will provide overall leadership for the Cascade project, taking responsibility for setting culture and strategy and vision, developing strong and successful relationships with key external partners, delivering an imaginative programme (in person and online) to support the wellbeing of lay and ordained church leaders (including Headteachers of Church Schools) in the Diocese of Rochester and beyond, and ensuring that there are sufficient resources available for Cascade to flourish.

Candidates should have experience of leadership in a church setting with project management experience.  You should have an understanding of wellbeing issues for frontline workers and knowledge of a variety of therapeutic processes and other interventions.  You will have excellent organisational and communications skills.

Job Description

Main duties and responsibilities

Manage the DUK project portfolio

• Become a subject matter expert in applied and translational research in DMD, allowing informed decision making and effective communication with key stakeholders
• Support identification of new project and collaborative opportunities, including the ongoing management and delivery of our applicant-led funding call
• Support the Director of Research and Development in project scientific review, working with the Scientific Advisory Board, Patient Advisory Board, Senior Leadership Team and DUK Board of Trustees
• Manage project development and initiation, including contracting, the development of detailed project plans, including go/no-go milestones, and budgets
• Manage and oversee project delivery, including monitoring of progress, according to agreed timelines and deliverables (including written updates and formal reports), and managing project finances, including reviewing and approval of invoices and monitoring project expenditure
• Support research budget forecasting in liaison with the finance team and the Director of Research and Development, and ensure compliance across the project portfolio
• Build and manage relationships with external partners and maintain regular communication through the project life cycle
• Support the Director of Research and Development to identify areas of strategic focus to inform the development of new research programmes
• Contribute to and support the development of DUK led research proposals for external funding and work with the income generation team to identify opportunities for research funding

Research governance and processes

• Maintain and improve, as relevant, internal processes for research management and governance
• Act as system owner for the research functions within DUK’s CRM (Salesforce), maintaining records and driving process improvements for grant workflows and monitoring
• Support the Director of Research and Development in research governance activities
• Support the Director of Research and Development to ensure compliance with the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) requirements, such as - contributing to annual data collection and surveys; implementation of AMRC processes and reviews recommendations, as relevant; keep up to date with relevant news and opportunities for training, collaboration and networking

Support the Director of Research and Development on the following external engagement activities

• Development and implementation of outreach and engagement activities in the DMD patient and research community to inform areas for research focus and prioritisation
• Scoping and development of formal and informal strategic partnerships and relationships with key stakeholder organisations (e.g. membership societies, other charities, consortia etc)

Support delivery of DUK flagship strategic programmes

DUK has strategic programmes in clinical research access and capacity, care standards and care access, assistive technologies and patient data. Under the oversight of the Director of Research and Development and working closely with the relevant programme team:

• Coordinate key programme updates and discussions between the DUK team and the programme teams
• Working with DUK comms team, support the development of external comms and marketing
• Working with the Director of Research and Development and the programme teams, support development of new initiatives and external funding opportunities

Other key responsibilities

• Provide general research admin support (e.g. arrange research meetings, both internal and external, prepare agendas and take minutes)
• Work with DUK comms team to identify case studies and success stories and support the development of the research comms strategy
• Coordinate research comms and work with the Director of Research and Development and comms team to ensure all research content is accurate and appropriate
• Work with the income generation and comms teams to provide updates to our key co-funding partners
• Support the collection of portfolio data across all programmes for DUK KPIs and to support DUK impact report development
• Coordinate and deliver research led events and support the Director of Research and Development in the agenda and content development for the annual Duchenne UK New Horizons conference
• Travel across the UK to attend meetings with partners

•    Provide leadership to Project Officers, ensuring all funded projects are delivered and completed to a high standard.

The Role

Reporting to the Community Investment and Partnership Manager this post will be embedded with our other customer facing teams and require excellent partnership skills, a focus on delivering social impact, ability to identify opportunities for fundraising and programme development and commitment to customer service with the confidence to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders.

What You'll Do

• Develop a place‑based working across London localities
• Lead, commission and support a wide range of community investment programmes and interventions
• Work closely with customer-facing colleagues to ensure community voice and lived experience shape local priorities

Building Strong Local Partnerships

• Build and maintain strong, cross-sector relationships with:
  • NHS and Integrated Care Systems
  • Local authorities
  • Community anchor organisations and VCSE partners
  • Police, community safety and youth services
  • Education providers and local networks
• Drive collaborative, shared approaches that support health equality and vibrant neighbourhoods

Programme, Contract & Financial Oversight

• Ensure the effective management of contracts, partners and projects, demonstrating clear, measurable social impact
• Oversee budgets, grants and procurement activity in line with financial policies
• Embed robust performance management and outcomes recording across all locality work

Funding & Social Impact

• Work with the Partnerships & Funding team to develop, shape and write compelling funding bids
• Collaborate with our Grants Officer to support and guide grant recipients
• Embed a strong culture of impact measurement, ensuring outcomes are recorded and shared effectively

What we need from you

You will have:

• Significant experience in community investment or a closely related field
• Substantial experience in working in place within community investment
• A strong track record of building and managing partnerships with diverse stakeholders
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills tailored to varied audiences
• Strong organisational abilities with experience in commissioning programmes and managing contract performance
• Great inter-personal skills and a proven record of stakeholder relationship management
• Experience in monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance
• Confidence with budget management and financial systems
• Strong digital skills and the ability to use technology effectively for programme delivery

About the role

We’re looking for a Community Forester to help deliver woodland creation and management projects across Raise: Cumbria Community Forest.

This role will support the delivery of woodland creation and restoration projects with landowners, contractors, communities and volunteers across a range of sites. You’ll coordinate delivery on the ground, support contractor management and work directly on practical forestry activities as part of a small and growing team.

You’ll also support the development of new woodland opportunities and help expand Raise’s support for landowners across Cumbria. We’re looking for someone with practical experience in forestry, woodland creation, conservation or a related outdoor or land-based field.

Working with us

This is a role that involves working across Cumbria, including regular visits to woodland and rural sites.

You will need to be comfortable working outdoors in a range of weather conditions and undertaking physically active work on uneven terrain.

The role includes practical forestry delivery, contractor coordination and community-based delivery activities.

A full UK driving licence is required.

You will regularly work with landowners, contractors, community partners and volunteers across a range of delivery environments.

Prospecting
● Identify and evaluate potential funding opportunities from UK and overseas foundations and grant makers.

Writing Applications and Proposals
● Proactively gather information from the Children on the Edge team to develop compelling proposals and budgets for funders. 
● Communicate Children on the Edge’s values and distinctives.
 

Reporting
● Proactively feed into the wider fundraising team’s collaboration to ensure we can provide all information required by funders.
● Craft tailored narrative and financial reports that demonstrate impact.
● Support the COO as required in reporting to larger Grants and HNW partnerships. 

Building Relationships
● Cultivate a portfolio of existing, lapsed and new funders.
● Represent Children on the Edge externally to build a network of prospects and support engagement events and activities as needed.
 

Management & Planning
● Acknowledge donations promptly; tracking donor communication in Salesforce.
● Use Salesforce to record and report on prospecting, applications and income. 
● Follow best fundraising regulations practice and comply with relevant legislation.
