Every day, LGBTQ+ young people across the UK wonder whether things will ever get better. Whether they are navigating school, family, identity, or simply trying to find their place in the world, too many of them are doing it without the visibility, support, or role models they deserve. We exist to change that - to tell them clearly and consistently that it gets better, and that their lives have value exactly as they are.

It Gets Better UK is part of the global It Gets Better movement, present in over 20 countries. Since launching here in 2018, we have reached over 2.5 million people across all four nations through digital content, storytelling, and a growing volunteer community. We show up at Prides, we tell real stories, and we keep finding new ways to reach the young people who need to hear from us - through projects like our volunteer-led podcast and Voices of Wales, for example.

We are at a genuinely exciting point in our development. With a largely volunteer-led model that is embedded and working, and new trustees joining us to help shape our direction, we are focused on building a strategy that allows us to grow sustainably and serve LGBTQ+ young people more effectively across the UK. The people joining our board now will not just oversee that work - they will help design it.

We are looking for three new trustees, each bringing specific expertise:

• Fundraising and income generation - We are looking to diversify and strengthen our income base, with particular focus on grants, trusts and foundations and community fundraising. If you have professional fundraising experience and know how to build financial resilience in a values-led organisation, we want to hear from you.
• Marketing and communications - Our work is fundamentally about reaching people, and social media is central to how we do that. We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of digital platforms, content strategy, and how to build and engage audiences - particularly young people.
• Finance - Sound financial governance is essential as we plan for the future. We are looking for someone with a professional finance background who can support the board in its financial oversight responsibilities and help us build long-term resilience.

Because we are a largely volunteer-led charity, our trustees tend to be more operationally involved than you might find at a larger organisation. This is a hands-on role, and one that offers a genuine opportunity to contribute your expertise to something that matters.

Community Engagement volunteers help to raise awareness of the support available for deaf children and their families through engagement with community and voluntary groups, and/or faith-based groups and/or other support organisations. This role will help us to better support communities, in order to build trust and ensure that any barriers to support are understood and overcome.

About you 

• Confident, friendly, and empathetic   

• Are committed to the vision and ambition of the National Deaf Children’s Society  

• Want to make a difference to deaf children and their families 

• Have knowledge of (or willingness to learn about) deafness and local services for deaf children 

• We particularly welcome applications from people who have lived experience of a particular community, in this case South Asian communities in Bradford, and an understanding of the potential barriers faced by those communities 

• Knowledge of a prominent language used in the community beyond English, such as Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, or Hindi, would be an advantage but is not essential

• Flexible depending on your availability  

• At different locations within your local community in the Bradford area 

What you will do 

Tasks will be varied depending on the needs of the community. As examples, they could involve:   

• Engaging with community groups, faith-based groups and/or other support organisations 

• Providing information to families about deafness and signposting them to appropriate support  

• Supporting with the planning of events and activities aimed at bringing families together  

• Supporting us to understand the needs of deaf children and their families in your community  

We also ask that you:

• Understand the boundaries of the role and ask for support where appropriate

• Provide evidence to demonstrate the impact you make in your community through volunteering

We want you to help us to connect families across Scotland by managing a special closed Community Network Facebook group and a Padlet of groups and events with the support of Adoption UK Staff and current Community Network volunteers. As a Virtual Community Network Volunteer (VCNV), you would be responsible for administering a closed Facebook group for families with adopted children and young people. The purpose of the group is to share Adoption UK Scotland groups and events but also to share activities aimed at adoptive families or care experienced children in one place.

The purpose of the group is to share Adoption UK Scotland groups and events but also to share activities aimed at adoptive families or care experienced children in one place. It would also allow parents to post in the group to find families local to them that they can connect with outside Adoption UK Scotland activities. As VCNV you would be responsible for moderating the chat and posts within the group, creating and managing a Padlet that contains groups or events that local authorities or other 3rd sector organisations are hosting.

Outdoor Learning Volunteer Officers are a key part of our team at Skelton Grange Environment Centre and are involved in:
- Supporting and leading environmental activities with young people and the local community.
- Planning and preparing sessions - and sometimes even developing new activities to help young people connect with nature.
- You will be trained and supported by experienced project staff and work as part of a team with paid staff, trainees and other Volunteers.

Typical activities for the Outdoor Learning Volunteer role include:
- Running environmental education sessions for school visits during term time.
- Running play activities for groups of children and young people during the school holidays.
- Keeping education day resources up to date and developing new resources, activities or materials as required.
- Helping with the general running of the centre and the project, including both development work and routine maintenance to ensure we are an inspiring location for visitors to experience nature.

- Running a range of outdoor education and play activities and events with schools and community groups on the Skelton Grange Environment Centre site.
- Planning, risk assessing and running safe and engaging activities outside for children.

As a Volunteer Community Connector, you will support the Compassionate Communities programme by helping to grow and strengthen community engagement by encouraging discussion around grief and loss.

Your role will involve:

• Supporting and facilitating ‘compassionate conversations’ in the community and promoting social connectedness. This may include signposting to relevant community support or care provision.

• Offering informal, empathetic listening and engagement around topics such as life limiting illness, caregiving, dying and bereavement.

• Helping to support informal sessions or larger events in partnership with community groups, workplaces, clubs and organisations.

The Community Officer is responsible for creating an engaging and welcoming environment for volunteers. This encourages and motivates volunteers to get involved and stay involved. This includes encouraging engagement in shared social spaces (Discord and Whatsapp), organising a range of regular socials and supporting with the Ball at conference.

All community volunteers will be invited to attend an interview either in person or via teams with a panel formed of a hiring manager, member of the network and a nominated member of youth. There will be further

The location of these are to be confirmed for the mid program sessions (In Marsden village) and any running up to this will be conducted at the Huddersfield Hub. Each welcome event will include an interview, an introduction to the network as well as CPR practice.

Looking for a way to give back to your local community without a long-term commitment? Not sure exactly what you’d like to do, but know you want to help?

Sometimes we come across one-off community tasks that just need a few volunteers to give us a good old Yorkshire helping hand. We also know life can get very busy and people don’t always have time to commit to a regular volunteering role.

Being a Community Squad volunteer is a flexible way to get involved. You’ll find out when and where one-off tasks are happening near you, and you can choose to help whenever it suits. There’s no ongoing commitment, you’re in control.

As a Squad volunteer, you’ll regularly receive updates about opportunities across Yorkshire. There’s no obligation to sign up for any of them, but if something catches your eye, just put your name forward. We’ll send you all the details you need, and you simply turn up on the day!

Tasks vary widely, so there’s something for everyone. You might help at a community clean-up, plant spring bulbs, hand out leaflets, put out grit or clear a path when it’s snowed for a neighbour. Or you could be handing out popcorn at a cinema event, making cups of tea at a social club, supporting someone with their digital devices, creating glitter tattoos at a children’s event, or writing letters to customers who are isolated.

Support Connect and Inspire Local Volunteers for ROLDA UK!

Are you interested in animal welfare and want to make a positive difference in your community? ROLDA UK are now seeking Volunteer Community Outreach Officer to help reach out to local volunteers, facilitate small activities in the community, and raise awareness of our charity's mission to rescue and rehabilitate stray and abandoned animals.

Your Role

• Help ROLDA UK build a local presence within your community by networking and growing local volunteers who are interested in animal welfare and ask them to join you.

• Create new opportunities within your local community and grow a network of volunteers who can get involved in local fundraising events like charity walks, bake sales, and helping to run local stalls etc.

• Inspire and encourage local volunteers to join your community group, collaborate, share ideas, and plan effective activities.

• Help raise awareness about ROLDA UK within your community by recruiting for volunteers to join your hub and help build local networks.

• Support your local community hub by organising regular online and in-person gatherings. Attend community events to discuss ROLDA UK’s work and encourage others to support the cause.
