The Philharmonia is looking to appoint an experienced and inspiring Head of Education & Community Engagement to lead on the day to day running of learning projects, with a firm focus on developing and growing this work. With a proven track record of creative leadership, innovation and producing high quality music education and community projects, successful applicants will be led by a passionate belief in the power of orchestral music to transform lives, whether as audiences or participants.
Centred around our ambition to deepen our engagement in our residencies in and out of London, this role will be responsible for the creative and strategic development and execution of both our long-established programmes (like Hear and Now, and Orchestra Unwrapped), as well as co-creating and developing new, innovative projects addressing real needs in schools and community settings. The role will have a strong direct connection with our Community Boards, the advisory bodies in our residency areas, and the Music Hubs, as partners and co-creators. Candidates should have a progressive and well-informed approach to place-based and grassroots music-making and project creation, and a strong understanding of the latest developments in the music education landscape.
Combining a keen grasp of participant needs, with sound understanding of commissioner and funder requirements, as well as a can-do, entrepreneurial attitude, this is a great opportunity for a senior manager to progress to the next level of leadership within the sector and shape the education and community engagement programmes of a leading orchestra.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning:

Undertake research and mapping as required to ensure that projects and programmes respond to local and regional needs and is distinctive and complementary in the context of other providers.

Keep abreast of educational policy and practice at national and regional governmental level, ensuring that project development is aligned with current thinking and strategy.

Develop new bespoke and innovative education and community projects in strategic partnership with local and national bodies, allied to the core work of the Orchestra.
Leadership and Management:

Provide creative leadership and direction for the Learning and Engagement Department, reflecting and clearly articulating the Philharmonia’s vision, mission and values

Develop and motivate the members of the Learning and Engagement Team, and as required, manage the Learning & Engagement team’s support staff, such as freelance Project Managers, animateurs and musicians

Sustain and strengthen existing partnerships for funding and delivery with key stakeholders including other NPOs, Local Authorities, Music Education Hubs, community groups, arts organisations and venues, private and public development agencies and schools, colleges and universities.

Represent the Orchestra on the Strategic Boards of appropriate bodies in London and residencies (for example, music hubs)

Ensure that key national and regional stakeholders have a detailed understanding of the Orchestra’s Learning and Engagement work, as well as ensuring effective and constructive communication with artists and musicians engaged in the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Learning and Engagement Programme

Represent the Philharmonia Orchestra at external meetings and conferences, as required, acting as an advocate and ambassador for the Orchestra.

Lead and manage the Safeguarding for the Orchestra, ensure that the Philharmonia Orchestra’s safeguarding policy and procedure is up to date and effectively implemented, including taking responsibility as the Philharmonia’s Designated Safeguarding Officer; ensure that all relevant staff and freelance practitioners have current DBS checks.
Programme Management and Delivery:

Skills and Qualifications
Essential:

Minimum five years’ experience in a relevant role

About the Role
The Marketing and Insights Lead will drive Urban Saints’ marketing activity and use data insights to continually improve engagement, reach, and impact across all platforms. This role combines strategic planning with live performance monitoring to ensure our communications are effective and relevant.
You'll be responsible for:
- Planning and implement integrated campaigns across email, social media, and the website.
- Supporting launches, events, training, and product sign-ups with timely, engaging content.
- Working with the Communications Coordinator, writing and editing marketing copy for emails, landing pages, and social posts.
- Monitoring and reporting on digital metrics (Website, email, social media, ad performance).
- Tracking user journeys, engagement rates, and campaign ROI.
- Running A/B testing across platforms to evaluate message, format, and timing effectiveness
- Manage paid ads campaigns (E.g. Facebook, Google, Instagram).
- Supporting platform management of tools such as Google Analytics, Hootsuite, Mailchimp, and CRM exports.
- Providing regular updates and strategic insights to the Head of Communications.
Please note, this is predominantly a remote role, but with travel as the role requires. All full-time Urban Saints employees are required to attend two team residentials per year (3 days/ 2 nights each).
About You
We’re looking for a strategic, data-savvy communicator who can lead on high-impact marketing campaigns that inspire action and deepen engagement. You’ll combine a creative mindset with analytical thinking, confident in using insights to shape campaigns and improve results.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Excellent written and verbal communication with a clear, engaging tone.
- Ability to tailor messages and content for differentaudiences and platforms.
- Confident interpreting data and using it to improve communication and engagement.
- Creative approach to problem-solving and campaign development.
- Proficiency in digital tools such as Google Analytics, Mailchimp, Hootsuite, and CRM platforms.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in driving income, building meaningful relationships with Trusts, Foundations, Businesses and individuals to support life-changing projects in rural Zambia and Mozambique.
Location: Remote (UK only) with a minimum of 5 mandatory meetings per year (includes overnight stays for 2-day meetings) at our office in Shrewsbury and occasional meetings elsewhere.
Contract: Permanent, Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Salary: £33,000 - £36,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Benefits: Matched pension contributions (7% of salary after probation), 5 weeks' annual leave plus bank holidays, and a discretionary Christmas shutdown.

The Role
As Corporate and Trusts Fundraiser, you'll take ownership of your fundraising portfolio, focusing on maximising income from corporate partnerships, Trusts and Foundations (both UK and international). You'll build and manage your own portfolio of donors, identify new opportunities, and provide exceptional stewardship to secure ongoing support. Collaboration and adaptability across this small, yet impactful organisation is key, as is a passion for creating positive change.
Your Responsibilities:
- Build and manage a portfolio of corporate supporters, trusts and foundations to maximise income and awareness.
- Develop a robust pipeline of funding applications, securing grants from high value trusts, foundations, statutory bodies and corporates.
- Develop and nurture relationships with existing and prospective funders, delivering outstanding stewardship.
- Research and identify new opportunities, delivering pitches that align with companies' values and ESG goals.
- Organise and support corporate fundraising events, both in-person and online.
- Write persuasive proposals, reports, and donor updates that showcase the impact of our work.
- Maintain accurate donor records and ensure timely reporting to funders in line with donation conditions while driving unrestricted and restricted income opportunities.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop social media content that engages supporters.
- Work closely with Head of Fundraising to ensure key fundraising objectives are achieved.
- Uphold and embed Village Water values and behaviour expectations in your work.
- Ensure communications are in line with the Fundraising Regulator guidelines.
- Act as an ambassador for Village Water, representing the charity at networking events.
About You
We're looking for someone who is passionate about the cause and excited to make a meaningful impact. You will enjoy building impactful relationships with a wide range of people, both in person and online. You are self-motivated, organised and creative. You can adapt your approach to suit different audiences and achieve deadlines.
Your experience will include:
- A proven track record of securing funds from Trusts and new corporate partners, including awards exceeding £20,000.
- Confidence and experience delivering engaging presentations to diverse audiences.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills to ensure long-term donor support.
- Strong written skills for crafting compelling cases for support, donor updates and grant applications.
- Financial acumen, with the ability to interpret budgets and funding data.
- Proficiency in using databases to monitor fundraising performance.

About this key role
the project aims to make a positive contribution to the Council’s wider aims by helping to minimise and manage the risks posed by young people engaging in activities related to drugs, alcohol, child sexual exploitation, criminal behavior, gangs, and radicalisation, and to keep young people from coming into care by supporting them to live safely with their families.
As a proactive member of the multi-disciplinary team, our successful candidate will share best practice with other team members in relation to approaches and strategies to support and engage young people and their families to achieve best outcomes, plus work collaboratively to develop plans of support and promote programmes of social education, activities, support, advice, and information, using a range of multi-sensory methods.

What we are looking for
• Experience of engaging successfully with challenging people
• Experience in negotiating with partner agencies to establish links to further the aims of the project
• Experience of working to targets and recording information for performance monitoring
• An understanding of the client group and the challenges and motivations of young people
• Sound knowledge of using monitoring systems to record all aspects of the project
• Able to recognise the signs of child sexual exploitation (CSE) and take appropriate action
• Ability to set up and operate systems to monitor and report on work
• Excellent IT, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
