Volunteering with Victim Support in Sussex
As a Volunteer in Sussex your role will include:
- Dealing with victims of Multi crime including; Assault, Burglary, Neighbourhood disputes
- Supporting and empowering victims and witnesses of crime
- Liaising with the Police, courts, housing trust and other partner agencies
What do we ask of you?
In order to join us as a Service Delivery Volunteer, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or over.
- Be able to volunteer for at least 3 hours per week, for at least 12 months.
- Undertake training over a 10-week period – this includes five virtual training days as well as completing a workbook and online learning modules.
- Undertake an enhanced DBS check & be part of the DBS update service.
- Be able to provide two satisfactory references.
- Have an active email address that you are comfortable using in order to engage with VS communications.

Job Title: Community Engagement Volunteer – Norfolk & Suffolk Victim Care Service
Place of Work: Office & Community based

We accept applications from people with a wide range of skills & experiences. Existing knowledge & previous experience are not essential and a full training program will be provided as part of the role. The victims of crime that face our service are of a wide range of people and we are searching for a wide range of volunteers to suite the needs of our service users.
Purpose of the role
To support and work alongside our Partnerships & Inclusion Manager on face-to-face- visits at conferences and events in the community. You will provide direct support to victims of crime in the local community and complete satisfaction surveys for the service, and sign post them on to other local services based on their individual needs..
Activities
· To Support the Partnerships & Inclusion Manager, and other case workers at events. This doesn’t necessarily have to mean you will take a lead at these events but you will be there for face-to-face support for the service users. This could include general chat, making hot drinks, and delivering leaflets, and sign posting to local services.
· You will engage with the public and promote the service to victims of crime, sometimes on occasion where the crime is historic. You will support the Partnerships & Inclusion Manager with running sessions within the community.
· You may come into contact with service users on the tail-end of their journey and will sign post them to any additional services which may help their needs. This could include regular check-ins and follow-ups to see if the service users have used the services available to them.
· Engage with local Universities to spread awareness of the service, common crimes more broadly, and be a part of the overall prevention of crime.
· You will gain a general understanding of the service and the types of crime local to Norfolk & Suffolk. This could include data analysis, crime prevention tactics, and sharing and communicating this information to the general public, service users, and team members as a whole.
· You will be a part of a group that provides initial support to service users and play a front-facing part of the service.
· You will listen to the needs of service users and link them up with relevant support available within the community.
· You will work in partnership with other services and charities to understand what is on offer for Victims of Crime.
· You will support and fill in for practitioners at events which could include for some of our volunteers the opportunity to deliver talks at places such as schools. This includes all other Catch22 policies and legal obligations such as adherence to GDPR.
· You will collect survey responses but also liaise with Partnerships & Inclusion Manager and other team members to respond to the survey if required.
· Ensure that our service users are kept safe and adhere to Catch22’s safeguarding policies and procedures.

Entry Requirements:
To volunteer for NSVCS, you must be over 18 and of good character. You will have a caring nature and non-judgmental attitude.
The ability to work from our office and willingness to travel to support community engagement across Norfolk and/or Suffolk.

Purpose/Summary of role
We are looking for two enthusiastic volunteers to be a part of the Young Company programme. To support the development, confidence, and wellbeing of young women aged 18-25 through engaging group activities, acting, drama, rehearsals, theatre skills training and a safe, inclusive environment. This role is a one-yearplacement. October 2025- July 2026
Description of tasks
Key Responsibilities:
- · Build positive working relationships with young people
- · Assist with the lead facilitator(s) workshops, group games, or discussions
- · Provide a listening ear and positive encouragement
- · Ensure safeguarding policies are followed at all times
- · Assist fellow volunteer and lead facilitator(s) with setup and tidying of the space
- Encourage young people’s participation and creativity
Time Commitment
Acting, drama and theatre skills training
These sessions will be delivered by our, Drama School partners and Clean Break Artists. The Young Company Support Worker will be on hand for any support needs outside of the space.

Who are we?
The Hardman Trust was established in 1994, with the aim of helping people leaving prison after long
sentences. Our founder, Guy Armstrong, was a prison Chaplain. He saw the challenges facing this
group: homelessness, a lack of workplace skills, stigma, isolation, low confidence, and poverty. A fund
was set up to provide financial assistance to purchase tools and equipment, offering a helping hand
into employment. We now know from experience that this practical approach works. The people the
Hardman Trust has supported over three decades have used this financial support to gain
qualifications, start their own businesses, find employment and a new direction in life. We are now
extending our reach so more people can benefit from our support and sharing our evidence and
insights to help shape a more effective, humane criminal justice system. Achieving this means securing
the right funding, building strong partnerships, and ensuring our resources are used with maximum
efficiency and impact.
We are looking for several new Trustees to join the Hardman Trust Board. If you want to support our
mission, and you feel that you have the commitment and the life or professional experience for the
role, we would love to hear from you. In return, you will have the chance to make a meaningful
difference to those serving long sentences; and you will be part of a passionate and committed team
of staff, trustees and volunteers. We offer support to all new Trustees and if you haven’t been one
before, don’t worry - we will make sure you have access to any training and development you feel you
need.

The Trustee role
The Trustees work collectively as a Board. They have ultimate responsibility for governing the
Hardman Trust charity, directing its management, and ensuring it is well-run and operates according to
its purposes. They are legally responsible for the charity's finances, reputation, and compliance with
the law. Each Trustee brings their own lived experience and/or professional skills to support the charity
achieve its aims. Most Trustees also learn new skills during their time on the Board.
We want our Board to look like the world we serve and to have different voices within it. We know
that diverse groups of people make better decisions. We are keen to hear from people who can bring
perspectives or experiences often underrepresented in charity governance and how can help us
progress our vision.
Trustees are not usually involved in the day-to-day running of the charity. However, they work closely
with the Hardman Trust’s dedicated staff team, who are supported by a wider group of volunteers. The
Trustee role as in the majority of charities, is unpaid although legitimate expenses – travel costs for
example – can be claimed.
The Trustees’ key responsibilities
- Provide leadership to the Board in setting the charity’s strategy and priorities
- Oversee a collaborative and effective Board that brings diverse perspectives
- Support the Chief Executive, offering guidance and challenge
- Champion the charity’s mission and values, acting as an Ambassador and building relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, donors and the wider criminal justice sector
- Ensure effective governance and decision making, including chairing quarterly board meetings
- Ensure compliance with the Charity Commission and relevant legislation.

What we are looking for
Experience of leadership, ideally at Board or senior executive level. You don’t have to have been a Chair before, but you do have to have experience of being a Trustee.
- Strong governance knowledge and an understanding of the responsibility of charity trustees
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and able to build relationships effectively
- Strategic thinking with the ability to support and challenge constructively, and an inclusive leadership style
- Someone who will act as an advocate for the charity and be willing to champion the Hardman
- Trust through personal networks, social media and other channels.
- The ability to be responsive and flexible – we are a small charity which sometimes requires the
- Chair to be available at short notice or out of hours to offer support or advice
- Commitment to equality, diversion and inclusion and to improving outcomes for people serving long prison sentences
- Experience of the criminal justice sector, prisons or related fields is desirable

The Board consists of a wide range of individuals representing Barnet’s diverse communities alongside the statutory positions defined in the MOPAC Guidance, involving people of all ages and from all sections of the community. This includes those who may not have been actively involved before, who may be vulnerable or who have been a victim of crime.

· Monitor police statistical data, performance and confidence

Volunteer to help women coming out of prison
We are currently looking for a female volunteer with a keen interest in working with female ex-offenders with complex needs on release from prison. You will be working alongside our experienced staff supporting women on a day-to-day basis and assisting with the smooth running of the project in a supportive and confidential environment.

Skills and Qualifications
This role would suit someone who enjoys cooking and working as part of a team
A basic level of cooking knowledge and ability to follow instruction is essential.
Some experience or a desire to work with vulnerable women who have been through the Criminal Justice System or at risk of offending.

If so, St Giles is looking for a Lived Experienced Peer Volunteer to join our team and provide interventions and build meaningful, peer-led relationships with service users to encourage them to engage in drug and alcohol treatment following arrest.

About this key role
As a Peer Volunteer, you will increase client engagement with drug and alcohol treatment services by providing vital peer-led support and building trust and motivation among a client group that has been historically disengaged/not offered support previously. You will provide holistic, short-term intervention to bridge the gap between referral and full treatment engagement, capture client experiences and barriers to improve service design and accessibility and develop a strong service user voice to inform future service improvements.
Areas of support from Peer Volunteers may also include initial engagement and motivation such as welcome calls, check-ins, peer-led conversations and motivational chats over coffee. You may also offer practical support such as appointment reminders, transport assistance and paperwork support, plus help to build positive routines such as activity-based engagement and supporting small lifestyle changes, including meal planning, budgeting, and time management.
What we are looking for
- Personal experience of the criminal justice system or lived experience of the issues facing this client group (i.e. experience of substance misuse and recovery)
- Proven experience of working in a high intensity environment, being self-motivating, with an ability to effectively manage your own wellbeing
- Knowledge of the issues facing those arrested for potential criminal offences
- Knowledge of, and commitment to, safeguarding practices and policies
- The ability to use monitoring systems to record all aspects of the work
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, verbal and written
