Inter Mediate is a London-based peacemaking charity supporting confidential negotiations in some of the world’s most challenging conflicts. Now in its second decade of operations, Inter Mediate is seeking a Senior Associate to join our small, specialised team. The post is based in London with frequent travel to South and East Asia.

The Senior Associate will be responsible for working with the relevant Project Directors to support the management and delivery of existing Inter Mediate conflict resolution and dialogue projects, with a geographic focus on South and East Asia. This will crucially entail managing complex logistical arrangements in relation to high level and sensitive meetings and dialogues, engaging with senior interlocutors in a credible and professional way and dealing with sensitive and confidential information with utmost discretion.

• Supporting and implementing Inter Mediate’s existing projects portfolio of peace talks and other high-level peace initiatives;
• Building and managing relationships with senior stakeholders in conflict and peace processes, mainly in South and East Asia;
• Identifying and developing entry points for new projects;
• Monitoring and analysing political developments across areas relevant to Inter Mediate’s work;
• Preparing project proposals and budgets, narrative and financial reporting, and collecting evidence of project impact.

Specific responsibilities:

• Traveling frequently across various project and meeting locations;
• Maintaining relationships with key partners and interlocutors;
• Drafting meeting reports, note verbales, preparatory briefs and memos as required;
• Leading research necessary to deliver projects;
• Preparing programme budgets in consultation with relevant team members and ensuring timely and efficient financial planning and management;
• Managing relationships with key project donors, preparing donor reports and updates in coordination with the Operations Team and identifying and scoping additional funding opportunities and relationships;
• Working with the Projects Director on compiling project progress reports for senior management/trustees’ meetings; and
• Representation of Inter Mediate in external forums where appropriate

Key Responsibilities:

4. Health and Safety Maintenance: Take responsibility for maintaining health and safety standards within the Wellbeing House, including cleaning and upkeep to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for people accessing our service.
5. Promotion and Networking: Actively promote the Alexandra Wellbeing House service by engaging with external stakeholders, raising awareness of the service, and strengthening existing relationships to ensure broader community engagement and support.
6. Facilitation of Therapeutic Groups: Set up and lead groups aimed at improving mental health and well-being within Alexandra Wellbeing House, fostering a supportive environment for individuals to share experiences, learn coping skills, and build resilience.
7. ICT Systems Management: Utilise ICT systems appropriately and ensure adherence to high internal standards of data recording, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures, to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
8. Creating a Welcoming Environment: Participate in fostering a welcoming, friendly, and empowering atmosphere within the service, ensuring that individuals accessing the service feel valued, respected, and supported throughout their interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

This role requires someone who has experience managing research teams within the polling industry. 5+ years of experience in market research, polling, or political analysis is essential for this role.

In addition, the following will be an asset for this role: 

• Track record of delivering genuinely interesting and high-quality research into public opinion in the UK. 

• Experience with and deep understanding of quantitative and quantitative research methods.

• A desire to work on both long-running years’ long research projects, whilst also responding to the news of the day and working fast to produce rapid insights for the media and clients.

• Deep understanding of UK politics and the role research and communications play in shaping public policy outcomes. 

• An ability to write well, at pace, and for a range of audiences, and to give feedback on other team members’ writing to improve their quality. 

• A public profile presenting public opinion analysis to the media and/or on social media.

• An ability to manage projects from start to finish, handling both budget and time management, and dealing with large and complex clients. 

• An eye for a good story; an ability to design research projects that will perform well in the media and experience of writing press releases to make research understandable and interesting to the media. 

• An entrepreneurial mindset and a history of securing new business and writing funding proposals to large funders.

• A desire to help foster a collaborative, supportive, and high-performing research culture where team members are motivated and enjoy their work.

• Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop early- and mid-career researchers, especially in a small team environment where people learn quickly by doing

About the Role

• Providing advice and support relating to school admissions to headteachers and school governors
