Job purpose

The Communications & Digital Officer delivers creative, high-quality communications that promote the College’s work, products and services, supporting membership recruitment, retention and engagement. The postholder creates, edits and publishes compelling content across digital and print channels, ensuring it reflects the College’s brand, values and priorities. They manage day-to-day digital communications, including website and social media updates, and support the delivery of campaigns, publications and events. Using data and digital insight, they help improve reach, visibility and engagement. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role for a proactive communicator who enjoys turning strategy into impactful, accessible and engaging content and who is keen to develop new skills.

Key responsibilities

Implements communications and marketing activity under the guidance of the Communications Manager.

Content creation and delivery

• Draft, edit and publish engaging, accessible content for the College’s website, newsletters, social media and other marketing platforms.
• Support the production of College News, EyeMail and other publications, ensuring editorial quality and brand consistency.
• Develop multimedia materials (graphics, video, infographics etc.) in collaboration with the Senior Graphic Designer.
• Maintain and update the organisation-wide, multi-channel content plan.
• Manage day-to-day content scheduling and publishing for social media, monitoring engagement and responding appropriately – within the framework set by the Communications Manager.

Digital communications

• Maintain and update website content, ensuring accuracy, clarity, accessibility and brand alignment, and contributing to content audits and redevelopment projects.
• Support delivery of digital campaigns that promote College events, membership benefits, resources, and other products or services.
• Work with colleagues to ensure content adheres to brand and editorial guidelines.

Use approved artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist with content creation, scheduling and analytics.

Media, campaigns and internal communications

• Support media relations by drafting press releases and statements, maintaining media lists, and logging enquiries.
• Contribute to coordinating responses to journalists and organising interviews and briefings.
• Support implementation of project-specific communications plans to ensure key messages reach target audiences.
• Produce internal communications such as Eyes Down and intranet updates, sourcing content from colleagues.
• Assist with digital asset management, photography, video production and related creative tasks.

Monitoring and reporting

• Track and analyse digital engagement, including website traffic, social media metrics and newsletter performance.
• Produce monthly communications and marketing activity reports highlighting trends and insights.
• Maintain accurate records of media coverage and engagement data to support continuous improvement.

Collaboration and support

• Work collaboratively with colleagues across departments to support consistent, effective communication of College priorities.
• Provide administrative and logistical support for communications projects, publications and campaigns.
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive and innovative team culture, upholding the College’s values.

Person specification

Knowledge, qualifications and experience

• Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, journalism or a related discipline.
• Experience creating and managing digital content across multiple channels, ideally in a membership, professional or healthcare environment.

• Experience in writing, editing and adapting content for different audiences and formats.
• Working knowledge of website content management systems, analytics tools, search/answer engine optimisation, social media platforms, and e-newsletter software.
• Awareness of AI-enabled tools for content development, scheduling and reporting.

Main purpose of role

The Role

About the role:

Are you a detail-driven professional with a passion for precision and people?
We are seeking a Payroll Officer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in ensuring every payslip is accurate and delivered on time. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll process, working closely with our external payroll provider to ensure the accurate and timely payment of all employees each month.

You will process monthly payroll, including manual calculations for overtime, variable hours, complex work patterns, and compressed hours, while ensuring correct application of cost codes for payroll expenditure. The role involves administering statutory and company payments such as sick pay, maternity pay, and other relevant entitlements, as well as processing adjustments for new starters, leavers, promotions, and contract variations.

You will also play an important part in supporting the procurement and implementation of a new payroll provider and software, ensuring compliance with all pay-related legislation, HMRC regulations, and internal policies. The position includes managing pension scheme administration—covering auto-enrolment, contributions, and opt-out processes—and collaborating closely with both the People and Finance teams to maintain accurate employee data and ensure payroll costs are correctly recorded and reported.

Additionally, you will produce monthly payroll reports, assist with financial and audit requirements, and respond to employee payroll queries promptly and professionally. This is a varied role that also offers opportunities to contribute to ad hoc tasks and reporting projects as required by the business.
 

About You:

To be successful as the Payroll Officer you will need to demonstrate proven experience in payroll processing, ideally within a medium to large organisation, along with a strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements. You should possess excellent numerical skills, with the ability to interpret data, perform accurate calculations, and apply sound financial understanding relevant to the position. A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential, as is the ability to manage confidential information with discretion.

It would be advantageous to have experience managing complex pay calculations such as compressed hours, overtime, and varying pay structures, as well as familiarity with pensions administration and HMRC reporting. Strong organisational and time management skills, together with proficiency in IT - particularly Excel - and experience using FMP or Staffology payroll software, would also be highly desirable,

The renewal of Methodist worship is highlighted in God for All 2025-32 as a significant commitment.

This exciting and varied role offers the opportunity to facilitate the music aspects of Methodist worship renewal across The Connexion. High-quality music is central to Methodist worship and this role will combine a significant amount of resource development, hands-on training and delivery online and in local circuits and Districts.

In this role, you will also have particular responsible for growing, fostering, nurturing and developing the community of church musicians, being responsible for networks, communication and all aspects of training and development. Additionally, you will play a leading role in working to develop the music aspects of The Resource Hub (formerly Singing the Faith +). Finally, you will work with congregations and circuits where there are no church musicians, to support high quality music within worship in those contexts.

About you

We are seeking to appoint someone with a strong sense of what musical excellence in worship looks like. Alongside this, you will believe deeply in the importance of wide congregational participation in worship. You will have an ability to translate the best of Methodist tradition for a contemporary setting. The role will require someone who is a natural communicator and skilled facilitator, able to work across the broad range of worshipping and musical traditions within The Methodist Church, and a gifted musician. The Opportunity   

This role is central to shaping and delivering the Social Mobility Foundation’s media, public affairs, and campaigning work, alongside the Campaigns Manager. You will influence changemakers - including politicians and journalists - through strategic media, political, and social media interventions. You will also collaborate with our Young Campaigners to amplify their voices and co-create impactful campaigns with them that drive systemic change.

1. Helping to plan and deliver campaigns activity, both planned and reactive, including: 

• Organising campaign events e.g. Parliamentary receptions and communicating our campaigns online and on social media.
• Assisting the Campaigns Manager to commission research and polling support our campaigning.
• Monitoring parliamentary activity, and horizon scanning - considering how political developments may affect our campaigning work, providing opportunities and risks. 

2. Leading our media work to maximise the impact of our campaigning, building awareness of social mobility as an issue amongst influential and informed audiences: 

• Developing and executing media and communication plans to support our campaign goals.
• Monitoring the media and responding to stories that allow us to land our key messages, share our point of view and platform SMF young people.
