Digital Communications Officer

Salary: £30,000 per annum

Contract: permanent

Location:  South Wimbledon (with travel to our services across South London)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

We are a leading London homelessness charity and are looking to step change our digital communications to help drive the development of our brand awareness and fundraising.

About you

We are looking for an excellent digital communicator with strong copywriting skills, demonstrable experience in website management, design capabilities, and an ability to drive our social media strategy.

The ideal candidate will bring experience and confidence in proactively creating engaging content and managing digital channels and will relish the opportunity to be hands on and drive this aspect of our work. 

They will be strategic-thinking, results focussed and have a strong ambition to raise our brand awareness, increase our engagement on social media, and increase our level of individual supports through digital.

Overall Aim

To work with the Fundraising and Communications Manager:

  • To drive our digital communications, manage our website, co-create and deliver our social media strategy, create content (video, photos, infographics),  scheduling and reporting, and external and internal e-newsletters
  • To develop compelling, quality written content that engages and increases audiences
  • To be marketing focussed and strategic-minded, results driven with the aim of raising our brand awareness and help increase social following and fundraising
  • To support on the creation and delivery of our Annual Report
  • To assist with the management of our internal website, Click
  • To be brand ambassador for Evolve, ensuring that all of our messaging and design is on brand and aligned with our values
  • To create design content on Photoshop or Canva for use across the website, social media and print materials
  • To manage our website’s SEO, Google Ads and analytics

Key Responsibilities

  • To work with the Fundraising and Communications Manager to implement our digital communications strategy.
  • Design and collate engaging content for all digital channels from written content to video, photos and infographics to drive our brand awareness and social following.
  • To manage our website (Wordpress), regularly reviewing and creating engaging new content, creating new campaign pages and other new tools and capabilities for campaigns.
  • Create engaging external e-newsletters, managing our mailing lists and reporting on open rates and click through rates.
  • To build and manage a library of media content to support campaigns and fundraising activities and represent the range of our services.
  • To be brand guardian, ensuring that external Communications are of a professional standard and consistent with Evolve’s values and brand, in compliance with policies and procedures, and recognised good practice. 
  • To be aware of and analyse market and digital trends and use these to inform delivery of communications and fundraising strategies.
  • To support colleagues across the organisation with any design needs or editing of internal booklets/printed materials/branded goods. 
  • To support on the creation and delivery of the online Annual Report and any other key marketing materials.

 
Digital

  • To deliver our digital strategy in order to raise our profile and levels of engagement. To keep abreast of effective marketing strategies and ensure we make full use of emerging technology/approaches/tools within social media.
  • To co-create an engaging social media and content strategy to drive following.
  • To proactively engage with audiences across social media channels, responding timely to comments and posts.
  • To lead on the digital elements of fundraising campaigns, including paid for advertising, with support from the Fundraising and Comms Manager and our external digital agency.
  • To report regularly on our digital performance including engagements, followings and other specific digital KPIs across the website and social media.
  • To manage our website, create new pages, add news, stories and content to keep it fresh and up to date.
  • To write and design our bi-monthly external newsletter, managing mailing lists and split testing marketing campaigns
  • To monitor, measure and analyse our digital channels to inform our digital strategy and ensure content is engaging, conveys our values, and increases our audiences and reach.
  • To manage the intranet and support colleagues with any technical difficulties with uploading content.
  • To write and design our internal e-newsletters.
  • Lead on improving our SEO, Google Ads and analytics.

Design

  • To design visually attractive and engaging content across all channels.
  • To design content for any printed resources.

Printed Resources

  • To be responsible for the development of internal and external marketing materials, such as our Annual Report, People Plan and fundraising packs and ‘About Us’ leaflets.
  • To support colleagues with the design and editing of our internal customer newsletter and service newsletters.
  • To ensure continuity between online and print marketing assets and messages.

Brand

  • To be brand guardian, protecting our brand, logo and strapline within the organisation, ensuring colleagues know how to use the brand effectively and appropriately, in accordance with our brand guidelines.
  • To ensure external agencies and supporters using our logo follow our guidelines, checking that our name and strapline are used correctly, and messages about us are correct and in line with our key messages and tone of voice.

Events

  • As a team, to occasionally provide administrative and logistical support for external, stakeholder and fundraising events, and on the day support in the delivery of events.
  • To liaise with teams organising events to ensure content and design for supporting materials are on message, and to promote events through appropriate channels.
  • To liaise with photographers, videographers and press to ensure maximum exposure for events, providing on the day support for logistics.

Management of external suppliers

  • To work with our digital, PR and design agencies and printers to ensure that they deliver on brief, on time and within budget, with support from the Fundraising and Communications Manager.

Further information

The postholder will be required:

  • To occasionally carry out any other duties as directed by the Fundraising and Communications Manager, Head of Business Development, Director of Business Development, Chief Executive or Board.
  • To work within charity legislation, and in accordance with Fundraising Regulation and GDPR guidance including our consent and privacy policy, across all communication and marketing activities.
  • To act in accordance with the aims of Evolve Housing + Support and promote and implement our Equal Opportunities Policy and other polices adopted by the Board.
  • To follow our policies and procedures, with particular attention to health and safety, equality and diversity and customer service excellence.

Person Specification

Experience & qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience of good quality and effective copywriting for a variety of communicative platforms, particularly social media, website and email.
  • Experience of increasing supporter engagement through digital.
  • Demonstrable experience of using various digital platforms and emerging technologies for awareness raising and/or income generation.
  • Experience of developing engaging video content (desirable)
  • Experience of creating design work.
  • A relevant degree or other qualification would be an advantage

Knowledge

  • Understand the relevance of different marketing routes, including various digital platforms to engage with different audiences to be able to build a charity’s profile.
  • Understanding relationship management and the importance of consistency in message to engage different audiences.
  • Understanding of the audiences a charity needs to reach and how to do this creatively, working to a digital strategy and content strategy.
  • Understanding SEO and Google Analytics (desirable)

Skills

  • Use of emerging technology, particularly around digital and ability to harness these in order to meet aims. 
  • Ability to be proactive and reactive for online engagement with various audiences.
  • Is creative and resourceful- has great ideas and can implement them even in the context of limited charity resources. 
  • Ability to write engaging content, stories and messaging for a variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent proof reading skills.
  • Excellent copy writing skills
  • Excellent communicator with great interpersonal and presentational skills.
  • Able to develop messaging relevant for influencing different audiences. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with customers and colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
  • Proficient use of  Word, Excel, Photoshop/Canva (desirable), Wordpress and database applications
