Job description

About Us

The Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust (RUH) provides acute and specialist care for over half a million people in the local area, plus a broader community regionally and nationally for specialist services. We have a workforce of over 5,000 and a turnover in excess of £320m. Our Trust operates from a main campus; 52-acre site situated 1.5 miles from Bath’s thriving city centre. We are determined to continuously improve the quality of services we provide and to make the most of our fantastic setting.

The RUH is a vibrant organisation with a reputation for delivering high quality services, though increasingly, like most NHS organisations, this is against a backdrop of fundamental challenges facing the sector. The future will be about organisations working together to deliver the best quality experience and outcomes for patients in a sustainable way. We are at the forefront of shaping the landscape of healthcare delivery locally, whilst continuing to lead ground-breaking, nationally recognised services.

Our values are: Everyone Matters, Working Together, and Making a Difference and are at the heart of everything we do.

The role

We are currently looking to recruit an experienced, professional, and highly motivated Deputy Director of Finance with a depth of leadership experience to ensure financial sustainability is delivered for the Trust.

This is a key role for the Trust, working with the Director of Finance/Deputy Chief Executive and other members of the Executive team and this post will be instrumental in developing the financial culture, systems and practice within the Finance Department and the wider Trust environment and also across the local Integrated Care System (ICS).

As Deputy Director of Finance, you will manage the Finance department and its functions on a day to day basis which includes the Procurement function. You will also work with the Director of Finance/Deputy Chief Executive and other Executives to shape and develop the Trusts strategic direction and successfully manage their implementation. This includes taking the lead for the Trust on the financial planning for the Hospital Infrastructure Programme 2 (HIP2) and other major capital developments

About you

To succeed in this role at the RUH you will:

  • Be a qualified accountant with significant experience working in a medium - large, complex organisation and have prior experience of developing large scale and complex Business Cases to support the development of our Hospital Infrastructure Programme (HIP2)
  • Have experience of leading and working with Finance and Operational teams alike in the development of financial plans that enable the delivery of operational requirements, high quality care and financial sustainability
  •  Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrable experience of leading finance and other corporate functions to develop a mature and rounded service
  • Be financially and politically aware, bringing a high level of NHS knowledge on the delivery of transformational changes within the NHS and acting as an ambassador for the Trust when working with many external NHS organisations and the wider health economy including regulators.
  • Need strategic perspective, a proven ability to develop a financial culture that enables the delivery of high quality services, complemented by resilience and a collegiate approach.
