Some of your work will be routine: weekly newsletters, managing our website and social media, and keeping our members informed. Other parts will be more strategic – finding fresh ways to engage our diverse community, including promoting our kindergarten and flagship events.

You’ll have some experience in a communications role – perhaps in a charity, community or faith-based organisation. You’ll know how to take lots of information and shape it into clear, exciting messages. That means writing great copy, editing text from others, and using tools like Canva to create eye-catching visuals.

The Fundraising, Communications, Retail Team & Reception

The Team is responsible for fundraising for the charitable work of Mothers’ Union and for communicating our work internally and externally in various formats and media platforms, resourcing dioceses, building membership, and providing a first point of contact for all callers and visitors to Mothers’ Union.

The Role

The successful candidate will primarily work with the Fundraising, Communications, Retail Team and perform Reception duties.

This role is a permanent Contract, 4 days a week . The role is based at our head office in Central London. Since this is a 100% office based role, no home working option is available.

Main Responsibilities 

Reception Duties

• Ensure a high levels of customer service is always maintained.
• To ensure reception area is well-maintained, tidy and presentable at all times.
• Call handling and redirection.
• Greeting visitors; providing face to face information and signposting.
• Greeting conference delegates; ensuring they are signed in, have relevant security badges, and information regarding allocation of meeting rooms and their location.
• To update the meeting rooms’ presentation notices and door signs as necessary.
• To liaise with the Conference & Facilities team to arrange any on-the-spot meeting room requests or other enquiries.
• To receive visitors of Mary Sumner House tenants and informing the relevant tenant of visitor’s arrival.
• Ensure all visitors observe the necessary security and health & safety procedures, including the visitors log.
• Maintain building security by following safety procedures and controlling access via the reception desk.
• Receive, sort and distribute post/deliveries.
• Organise the mailing out of letters and parcels as required.
• To assist the Conference & House Co-ordinator and Conference Facilities Technician when needed.
• In the absence of the Conference & House Co-ordinator, to cover the bookings and administration of meeting rooms, liaise with the facilities team to ensure meeting rooms are set up as required and refreshments and a/v equipment are in place and operational.
• To provide general administrative and coordination support related to the building and teams across the organisation. 

Membership/Supporter Care and Income Processing

• Be the first point of contact for retailby phone, letter or email and responding to these in a timely manner.
• Ensure high levels of customer service are always maintained.
• To acknowledge all fundraising income received from various sources (cheques, cash, online giving).
• To provide retail external fulfilment providers with information and support required to enable them to meet their fulfilment KPI of 1 to 3 working days, reporting any issues to the retail manager.
• To carry out retail administration duties including but not limited to the processing of all information relating to the organisational finance system.

Fundraising, Data and Database

• Support with the administration, booking, planning and delivery of income generating events.
• Produce materials to support community fundraising activity in line with agreed appeals and events.
• To work alongside the Database Manager to maintain the data architecture and quality of the database at all times.

General

• To manage the bookings diary for Mothers’ Union’s displays and banners.
• Provide administrative support to the Director of Fundraising, Communications and Retail around team meetings.
• To actively be involved in any projects undertaken by the team and contribute as required or directed by the Director of Fundraising, Communications and Retail.
• To contribute to team meetings and organisational priorities.
• To provide general administrative and coordination support related to the building and teams across the organisation.

Skills & Experience

• Experience of working within an office or customer service environment is essential.
• Experience of working with Excel is essential.
• Working within the Charity sector is desirable.
• Pleasant and efficient telephone manner. Ability to interact in a friendly and
• Personable manner with external clients, tenants and staff.
• Experience of working at a reception will be an advantage.

For a complex global organisation undergoing significant change and transformation, we are recruiting a permanent Group Financial Controller. This role will lead all global financial accounting and statutory reporting. It will support the CFO and Global FD in the leadership and management of all financial accounting, including corporate statutory reporting across the Charity group and 40+ subsidiaries, month-end close and financial compliance, consolidation and balance sheet reporting, audit, short-term cash flow forecasting and working capital management including inter-company. Main Duties:

• As part of the Finance Leadership Team, direct and manage finance staff globally
• Lead the improvement of the quality of the financial close processes in SAP and the accuracy of data

Reporting to the Director of Campaigns, Policy and Programmes, this is a new role working within the department to provide strategic oversight and coordination across War on Want’s campaigning portfolio, to evolve the organisation’s creative tools and techniques for both online and offline campaigning, and lead on impact learning to inform the development of campaign plans.

The role is both strategic and operational, supporting the development and integration of national and international campaigns that will engage and mobilise new and existing supporters, with a particular focus on War on Want’s priority campaign programme areas on Justice for Palestine and on a Global Green New Deal.

We are looking for an experienced campaign strategist who knows how to drive campaigns forward, familiar with the different tools and techniques to inspire online and offline campaigning, and who can spark creative ways to deliver impact and secure campaign successes working effectively and collaboratively across teams. About the Role

We seek two analytic and entrepreneurial Research Managers to contribute to our ambitious research agenda, and scale the Charity Entrepreneurship Incubation Program from launching ~12 charities per year to 20. In these roles, you will be key in finding the ideas we recommend to future entrepreneurs, like those listed on this page.

Research roles at AIM offer unparalleled opportunities to do good through research. Within six months to a year of publication, our work becomes a fully fledged non-profit working to implement the solutions proposed by our analysis.

Core research focus:

We are seeking two research managers to join the team. We prefer individuals who are interested in multiple cause areas and domains.

• We plan to hire one manager who will exclusively focus on human well-being. All else equal, we prefer candidates willing to work on animal welfare as well. 

• We plan to hire one manager focused on animal welfare. Given our research pipeline, we expect the candidate to be willing to work on human well-being as well.

Future Growth Trajectories

The AIM research team is an excellent training and development ground for researchers. Over time, we expect research managers to gain increasing degrees of independence and eventually own work streams as senior research managers. 

Previous staff have also started organizations and gone on to work in other research and grantmaking institutions, including Founders Pledge and Open Philanthropy. Research fellows from our AIM Research Training Program have gone on to work for several highly impactful research organizations, including Giving What We Can, Animal Charity Evaluators, Animal Advocacy Africa, and Giving Green.

Background information

The Director of Business Development is primarily focussed on growing commercial opportunities and engaging at a strategic partnership and corporate level. The Head of Fundraising and Communications will boost the capacity and leadership of the team to develop voluntary fundraising, lead on smaller corporate partnerships, develop grants and trusts income, create and deliver headline grabbing campaigns that appeal to the wider public thereby developing an individual giving function and lead on organisational communications, including fundraising comms. The latter post is currently vacant and, it is hoped,  the Head of Fundraising will be involved in the recruitment. Job description 

Education

• A relevant professional qualification at SCQF Level 9 or above or equivalent knowledge acquired by other means.

Experience

• Experience in both fundraising (multiple and sustainable income streams) and communications(fundraising and organisation-wide), with evidence of developing strategy and delivery as well as management and leadership of these areas.

• Proven success in securing  income through a range of income channels including grants and trusts, partnerships, running campaigns, and raising profile.

• Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on activity delivery.

• A track record of planning and delivering successful multiple and sustainable initiatives at a local and national level.

• Excellent writing, storytelling, and communication skills across multiple channels.

• Experience of working with and supporting senior leaders (e.g. comms, media engagement).

• Experience of managing projects from inception to completion.

• Acting as Penumbra’s lead for media relations, securing press coverage and responding to media enquiries in a timely, professional manner. This includes developing relationships with key journalists, mental health advocates, and influencers to increase Penumbra’s profile. Leading on the creation and delivery of public-facing campaigns to raise awareness of mental health challenges and reduce stigma, including high-profile events like Mental Health Awareness Week.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead on the overall donor development offline programme for both cash and committed donors, ensuring a strong onboarding and onward journey is in place, and that key touchpoints are leveraged to deepen engagement and increase donors’ Lifetime Value.
• Work with digital fundraising colleagues to create integrated, multichannel campaigns and an effective, donor-first giving journey.
• Provide colleagues with strategic guidance, and technical support if required, to deliver warm appeals via Direct Mail that meet six-figures campaign targets.
• Manage our Telemarketing programme, to successfully launch and deliver activities such as conversion, upgrade, reactivation, and welcome calling.
• Ensure an insight-led thanking programme is in place, with key moments identified throughout the year to acknowledge support and communicate impact.
• Work with key stakeholders across digital and offline teams to ensure we maintain a strong retention rate whilst growing our Regular Giving file.
• Remain flexible and rapidly respond to emergency situations.
• Work with our Data team to identify the best approach to data and segmentation for each project.
• Manage production processes, developing supplier briefs and managing approval stages and end of campaign reviews.
• Work with our suppliers to ensure campaign fulfilment is in place and collaborate with our Supporter Care function to monitor responses and identify issues/opportunities.

Since 2019, we have been building a cross-cutting thematic programme using our investor accountability, corporate engagement and public policy toolkit to build a movement to harness the power of the investment system to address commercial determinants of health.

In 2022, we launched Long-term Investors in People’s Health (LIPH), a cross-cutting programme of work leveraging our toolkit of investor accountability, corporate engagement and policy advocacy. It is one of ShareAction’s largest programmes. Since the launch of LIPH, we have run high-profile campaigns to get large food manufacturers and retailers to improve their health disclosures and sell healthier products via our Healthy Markets Initiative (HMI); recently set up a Clean Air Initiative (CAI); mobilised investors to engage with corporates, the UK government, and standard-setting bodies on issues such as clean air and sick leave policies; and partnered with academics to grow the evidence base on the financial materiality of health. We have ambitious plans to take this work forward and are looking for a new Head of the team to help us do so.

In this role, you will:

• Oversee and contribute to the successful implementation of ShareAction’s strategy to tackle poor health via its LIPH programme, a cross-cutting programme of work leveraging our toolkit of investor accountability, corporate engagement and policy advocacy.
• Lead and motivate a team of 10 staff members and directly line manage at least three of them.
• Ensure adequate risk management and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) processes are in place.
• Together with the Fundraising team and Co-Director of Corporate Engagement, be responsible for securing funding for the LIPH programme, including writing funding bids, supporting with relationship management, supporting the coordination of our Funders’ Governance Group, and helping produce update reports.
• Plan, manage and report on budget for the LIPH programme, delegating workstream and campaign budgets where there are appropriate leads.
• Develop and nurture strategic relationships with senior external stakeholders, including funders, journalists, investors, and civil society organisations.
• Act as one of ShareAction’s subject matter experts on commercial determinants of health, keeping your knowledge up to date with developments across academia, civil society, and public policy.
• Act as a media spokesperson for the team and represent it in internal and external forums.
• Work with peers at the “Head of” level to play a leadership role across ShareAction.
