We are looking for someone who is truly passionate about the potential of research to influence the policies and practices that affect refugee children and young people’s ability to access and thrive in education - and the determination to get the evidence into the hands of those who need it.

REUK carries out high-quality, rigorous and bold research into refugee education, and uses this research to influence the policies, systems and practices that enable young refugees to thrive in education. We have a track record of over 10 years of impactful, timely and relevant research that has influenced change in the refugee education sector in the UK and internationally.

This role will lead and manage REUK’s research and policy portfolio, ensuring that it maintains and develops REUK’s external position as a thought leader on refugee education practice and research. 

Over the year ahead we will be working on a range of commissioned research projects, both domestic and international, and building the evidence we ourselves know is needed as a result of our frontline work. You will lead these projects, whilst securing new work for the months and years ahead.

We want to hear from experienced social researchers who can demonstrate excellent research, policy analysis, project management and writing skills and experience, alongside a strong track record of research business development. 

The role is 4-5 days a week and is based in London (NW10). The post holder will be expected to work in person at least 3 days per week. Regular travel to research locations across London and the UK will be required, and the post-holder must be willing to travel internationally several times each year if needed.

The Pembroke Academy of Music (PAM) is an open-access music education programme with a vision that all young people should have the opportunity to learn and grow through high-quality engagement with music. PAM works toward this vision by offering local children low-cost classical music instrumental instruction, providing opportunities for them to perform and enjoy music and supporting their personal development through music. PAM includes:

• Weekly instrument tuition in either violin, cello, trumpet, trombone, guitar, clarinet, or flute; 

• Weekly in-depth music-making sessions in ensemble work, musicianship, music theory, and biweekly composition lessons;

The role of the PAM Project Manager is to oversee all aspects of the delivery of PAM, with the support of the PAM Administrator. The PAM Project Manager also ensures PAM works within our overall statement of purpose for arts programmes at Pembroke House: 

• Creating space for local people to learn arts disciplines, create art together and share various forms of creative expression with each other and the wider society

OPERATIONS MANAGER - ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Operations Manager is a key support for the church’s leadership and heads the staff team providing management over key operational and missional areas of the church’s activities.

This leadership role supports the ethos and ministries of the church and its mission to be a church for the community - discovering Jesus, sharing God’s love, and caring for those in need.

A vital aim for our church’s work in the local community is that our staff relationships, our Venue ministry, our Christian hospitality and how we use and share our building should all reflect God’s character - showing compassion, generosity, and kindness.

The role has a lot of different components, so we’re looking for someone who sees all aspects of this job as an expression of the church’s mission to proclaim the Good News and will facilitate and serve the congregation, the staff and the volunteer teams as they creatively explore ways to express our Christian ethos through the life and ministries of the church. This therefore requires that they are someone who has a mature Christian faith.

Leadership:

• Provide administrative support for the Ministers. Develop and maintain administrative, organisational, communications systems and record keeping procedures for the church’s general administration. Maintain membership and constitutional records.
• Administrate the church's IT infrastructure, broadband, phone systems, and utilities accounts and ensure they meet the operational needs of the building and its ministries.
• Assist the Venue Manager to develop and maintain suitable and effective systems, strategy, pricing, communications, contract management, staffing and customer relations.
• Develop the church’s visibility and profile in the community using the church’s website, social media, ArtSpace, and missional displays and exhibitions, ensuring these align with the church’s ethos and mission.

Financial Oversight:

• Oversee provision of financial management information to Leadership team and Trustees, including budgeting, salaries, financial reports, end-of-year statements. Support them in developing financial strategies and policies.
• Oversee the accurate functioning of church financial systems, controls and procedures. Monitor and administrate reserves and investments.

Provide financial oversight, management, and support for:

• Venue ministry finances, pricing and strategy
• Finance Administration - ensure all financial records, payroll, pension administration, invoices, and reports are accurate and timely. Authorise payments.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS AND HOW TO APPLY

The role is full time (37.5 hours / week - flexible schedule across at least 4 days, core hours from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm) with occasional need to work out of hours.
Please note that the nature of the role means that hybrid working is not an option.

Salary £32,400 to £36,000 depending on the competencies and experience of the successful candidate. The package also includes 28 days’ leave + Bank Holidays, and a workplace pension (with 4% employer contribution) following the successful completion of probation.

About the Youth Endowment Fund

We’re here to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice. 

Last year, 244 people in England and Wales tragically died after being assaulted with a knife. Of these, 32 were children. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them. Even when violence doesn’t strike directly, we know that the fear of violence has a terrible effect on children’s lives.

The Youth Endowment Fund exists to try and permanently change things. To succeed, we must build an exceptional body of knowledge about violence affecting young people and how we reduce it. This knowledge has to be both rigorous and highly relevant to those making decisions about how to support vulnerable young people. We need to find out what works and what doesn’t through evidence synthesis, data analysis and qualitative research into children’s lives. We need to convert this into highly accessible content on what works, how delivery organisations need to change their practice and how the systems they operate in need to be reformed. We then need to work with the right people that can make change happen, across systems, policies and practice, to have a real impact on reducing violence affecting children’s lives.

Key Responsibilities

Deciding which projects, we should fund and evaluate is key, as is making sure we deliver our funding and evaluations to the highest standards. Our Programme Managers are responsible for identifying, assessing, funding and supporting programmes designed to prevent youth violence.

Programme Managers at YEF come from all walks of life. We look for individuals who may have experience in the youth sector, children’s social care, policing, criminal justice, education or how to involve local residents in making decisions about their own neighbourhoods.

As a Programme Manager at YEF, you will work very closely with our evaluation team to make sure we learn from what’s being implemented and that the organisations we fund are prepared and excited to work with us to find what works.

To achieve this, you will:

· Make sure we choose the best organisations to work with by assessing funding applications, critically appraising delivery plans and budgets, getting to know potential grantees and conducting site visits. These assessments will help you form recommendations to our senior leadership team about which opportunities to pursue.

· Work closely with grantees, external evaluators and our own evaluation team to ensure that the activity we are funding will be evaluable. This requires you to support and advise grantees on how to work in the context of an evaluation – usually, a randomised trial (you don’t have to have experience working on a randomised trial in the past, but it helps!).

· Build strong relationships with our grantees and provide them with ongoing management and support through the life of their funding. You will also be responsible for monitoring the performance of grantees and ensuring targets are met and any project risks are effectively mitigated.

· Think carefully about how we find the best projects to fund and evaluate, ensuring we can best find what works to keep children safe. To do this you might need to work with colleagues to spot where there has previously been a lack of evidence about what works (we will help you with this!). You would project manage these projects so they are excellently delivered – on time, within budget, and to a high standard. You will help to determine what our commissioning processes aim to achieve and design grant application processes to achieve it.

· You’ll manage our engagement with potential grantees to make sure we are attracting a diverse and promising portfolio of organisations to apply.

· Report to our team and external stakeholders regularly on how well the projects we are funding are going, spotting where grantees need support and coming up with how we can best provide that support.

· Represent the Youth Endowment Fund at external events, including reporting and presenting to our Grants and Evaluation Committee, who approve all our funding decisions.

You will have a good understanding of the needs of people with mental health problems and the links with welfare issues. You will take responsibility for the quality of support the team deliver to ensure it is robust and accountable. We hope to be able to extend our offer of support in the future so it will be important you have an interest in developing the service.

Applicants should have previous experience of thinking strategically to develop a service and of managing a team to deliver the support. An ability to work independently but collaboratively, to be proactive and show initiative is essential for this role.

This might include support with project scoping and initial set up; setting milestones; adapting processes so they are in line with the scale of the project; troubleshooting or pitching in to help keep things on track.

• Holding the overview of current projects, team availability and timelines, identifying bottlenecks and contributing to capacity planning .

• Owning CAIF’s progress tracking and contributing to our impact reporting.
