Research Manager, Maternity Cover

We have a brilliant opportunity for a Research Manager to join the Rhodes Trust, Oxford. This role is an integral role in a dynamic, international team and a fantastic opportunity for a driven and analytical senior researcher to manage the Trust’s philanthropy, prospect and due diligence research.  

We are looking for the successful candidate to start with us in January 2026.

The role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the research strategy of the Global Engagement Team and the delivery of a high quality, in-house research service to the Warden (CEO), Trustees and senior leadership of the Rhodes Trust, in support of fundraising towards the Trust’s 125th Anniversary Campaign goal of £200 million and increased alumni and friends of Rhodes engagement. The role includes line management of two Research Associates.

The role will be responsible for;

· Managing research output to support the GET team mission.

· Managing the delivery of all briefing materials for the Warden’s Office, Trustees and senior leadership team (SLT) to support stakeholder engagement, events and travel.

· Lead tailored research projects for key global regions in co-ordination with GET senior leadership and to support Campaign Committee. Pro-actively identify potential prospects, donors, partners and volunteers for the Trust for inclusion within fundraising pipelines

· Manage a varied portfolio of research resources and processes, including scoping materials, briefings and profiles, reports, network mapping, regional insights/analysis, philanthropic trends/issues, and country-specific content.

· In collaboration with the International & Special Projects Lead (Warden/CEO Office) and GET senior leadership, support the strategy, planning and delivery of all global travel for the Warden and fundraising team, including objectives/goals, itinerary design, identifying engagement opportunities and delivery of all associated research materials.

· Responsible for all in-house due diligence research prepared for the Warden and SLT in respect to risks and sensitivities surrounding donation acceptance, and management of the Trust’s submissions to Oxford University’s Committee to Review Donations as the university’s primary point of contact.

· Role modelling the Trust’s organisational values of commitment, inclusion, belonging, growth and innovation.

· Carrying out any other duties relevant to the role, as requested.

Cancer Research UK's Cancer Intelligence (CI) team is part of our Evidence & Implementation (E&I) department within the Policy, Information and Communications directorate. The E&I department is integral in driving impact for people affected by cancer and improving patient outcomes by placing evidence at the heart of the charity's work. Through robust research, the department shapes and drives improvements to cancer policy and practice across prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, outcomes, inequalities, and innovation.

What will I be doing?

• Overseeing the planning, development and delivery of commissioned prevention policy research (PPR) and supporting the development of the new prevention policy strategy

• Being responsible for signing off all policy research commissioned contracts, briefs, and outputs, ensuring they meet the Cancer Intelligence Team's evidence standards, adhering to wider CRUK policies, and aligning directly to the PIC prevention strategy

• Supporting team members to maintain and develop their own knowledge bases and skillsets through appropriate training, horizon scanning and involvement in commissioned work

• Developing and maintaining key relationships with internal and external stakeholders in the area of cancer prevention to identify common areas of work and identify gaps providing effective and pragmatic solutions

• Leading on dissemination of PPR outputs, including grey literature reports, peer-reviewed articles, presentations (internal and external), stakeholder engagement and press activity

• Liaising with the Cancer Prevention Knowledge Group Chair and other relevant experts to ensure that external insights are sought and appropriately incorporated into commissioned work

• Managing the budgets for prevention policy research studies and working with relevant colleagues to commission work agreed through the existing governance structures

• Gathering stakeholder feedback on strengths and weaknesses of existing team processes, including timeliness of outputs, quality of work and value for money

• Exploring different approaches for commissioned prevention policy research, to inform the development and implementation of a model of working that bests supports the delivery of the new prevention policy strategy.

What skills will I need?

• Education and/or experience in a research methodology discipline e.g. health sciences research

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact confidently with internal and external parties at senior levels

Centred around our ambition to deepen our engagement in our residencies in and out of London, this role will be responsible for the creative and strategic development and execution of both our long-established programmes (like Hear and Now, and Orchestra Unwrapped), as well as co-creating and developing new, innovative projects addressing real needs in schools and community settings. The role will have a strong direct connection with our Community Boards, the advisory bodies in our residency areas, and the Music Hubs, as partners and co-creators. Candidates should have a progressive and well-informed approach to place-based and grassroots music-making and project creation, and a strong understanding of the latest developments in the music education landscape. 

Combining a keen grasp of participant needs, with sound understanding of commissioner and funder requirements, as well as a can-do, entrepreneurial attitude, this is a great opportunity for a senior manager to progress to the next level of leadership within the sector and shape the education and community engagement programmes of a leading orchestra.

Key Responsibilities 

Strategic Planning:

• Undertake research and mapping as required to ensure that projects and programmes respond to local and regional needs and is distinctive and complementary in the context of other providers.

• Keep abreast of educational policy and practice at national and regional governmental level, ensuring that project development is aligned with current thinking and strategy.

• Develop new bespoke and innovative education and community projects in strategic partnership with local and national bodies, allied to the core work of the Orchestra.

Leadership and Management:

• Provide creative leadership and direction for the Learning and Engagement Department, reflecting and clearly articulating the Philharmonia’s vision, mission and values

• Develop and motivate the members of the Learning and Engagement Team, and as required, manage the Learning & Engagement team’s support staff, such as freelance Project Managers, animateurs and musicians

• Sustain and strengthen existing partnerships for funding and delivery with key stakeholders including other NPOs, Local Authorities, Music Education Hubs, community groups, arts organisations and venues, private and public development agencies and schools, colleges and universities.

• Represent the Orchestra on the Strategic Boards of appropriate bodies in London and residencies (for example, music hubs)

• Ensure that key national and regional stakeholders have a detailed understanding of the Orchestra’s Learning and Engagement work, as well as ensuring effective and constructive communication with artists and musicians engaged in the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Learning and Engagement Programme

• Represent the Philharmonia Orchestra at external meetings and conferences, as required, acting as an advocate and ambassador for the Orchestra. 

• Lead and manage the Safeguarding for the Orchestra, ensure that the Philharmonia Orchestra’s safeguarding policy and procedure is up to date and effectively implemented, including taking responsibility as the Philharmonia’s Designated Safeguarding Officer; ensure that all relevant staff and freelance practitioners have current DBS checks. 

Programme Management and Delivery:

• Oversee evaluations of all projects to share outcomes with stakeholders and partners and to learn lessons for developing and delivering future projects. 

• Agree and manage budgets for the Learning and Engagement Department

• Commission and oversee production of project-specific marketing materials. 

• Help to develop and support the Orchestra’s Audience Development Strategy, in close partnership with the Marketing Director. 

• Oversee all aspects of project management, planning and production of the various projects and workshops which make up the Philharmonia’s Learning Programme

Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

• Minimum five years’ experience in a relevant role

• Knowledge of the education and community learning landscape

Data Services is part of the Central Services of the Church of England, providing statistical information, analysis, research and consultancy.  The team works collaboratively with the NCIs, dioceses and parishes collecting and assembling data to support the Church’s missional, pastoral and operational activities through high-quality information and analysis.   This is used locally, at parish, diocesan and national levels, involving the Team in a wide range of customer contacts and interfaces

The Data Services Team works to promote data collection that is efficient and effective, producing high-quality services and deliverables geared to a varied range of customer needs.  Within the Team, the Data and Analysis unit leads on carrying out data collection and analysis and establishing best practice for research and use of data. It acts as the professional centre of excellence to inform and assist operational and development work within the Team, the NCIs, and the wider Church of England.

What you'll be doing
The purpose of this role is to support the mission of the Church of England by ensuring that high quality data are collected, made available, and appropriately used in decision-making at local, regional, and national level.  This analyst role also carries an emphasis on supporting the Church of England to achieve net zero carbon by 2030.  50% of the role will support the Net Zero programme by running the Energy Footprint tool, working with Dioceses and Churches to collect energy data, analysing the resulting dataset and reporting to assist with tracking the important progress of this work. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

• Working with data received from churches, parishes, dioceses, and cathedrals to ensure best possible quality in terms of consistency, timeliness and accuracy, including undertaking an appropriate share of routine validation and processing.
• Analysing data, and preparing reports for publication of statistics relating to church attendance, parish finances, ministry, cathedrals, parish census and deprivation, and other agreed Business as Usual (BAU) deliverables.
• Overseeing the Energy Footprint Tool, including leading on question design, data analysis, and reporting
•  Responding to queries regarding the Energy Footprint Tool from diocesan colleagues
•  Producing analysis and reports to aid Net Zero decision making
• Working with key stakeholders to review and improve data collection processes and ensuring these are accurately documented, tested and implemented.
• Providing professional expertise and support to colleagues leading other work within the Data Services Team.
• Providing analysis, insight and statistical advice in response to NCIs’, Synodical, Parliamentary and official enquiries and working parties, including the drafting of responses and material for publication.
• Assisting, advising and providing professional support for the creation and development of resources that will help churches, parishes and dioceses better understand and engage with their data.
• Helping to organise and contribute to Data Services events and activities, including those for diocesan and NCI colleagues and members of General Synod.

Essential

Skills/Aptitudes:

• Numeracy

Job Summary 

The Head of Student Representation is a critical member of the Students’ Union’s Delivery senior team and leads Durham SU’s work in influencing Durham University in students’ academic interests, through the support of student leaders and volunteers. The Head manages the Student Voice team, which coordinate support for academic representatives, and which provides policy advice to student leaders and the Durham SU senior staff.

The Head is also the operational lead for data protection, information governance, and data analysis. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties 

The Head of Student Representation is responsible for the performance, growth and sustainability of Durham SU’s professional staff team and volunteers, organised to support faculty and academic representatives.

In particular, the Head will: 

• Lead effective support for Durham student leaders who want to help make Durham University education better and fairer. 

• Anticipate and respond to student need in their education, seek and seize opportunity, and manage risk. 

• Ensure that Durham SU and its student leaders can, and do, speak with authority on matters impacting Durham students’ education, on behalf of the wider student community. 

• Provide advice and make recommendations to student leaders, Durham SU senior staff and the Board of Trustees on policy development within their area of responsibility. 

• Support the Deputy Chief Executive in the development and maintenance of relationships with Durham University’s academic and professional staff. 

The Head of Student Representation will be accountable for: 

• Leadership across the newly formed Delivery function in the SU – working closely alongside the Head of Community and the Deputy Chief Executive to provide a high-quality experience to Students’ Union stakeholders

• Managing their team efficiently, effectively and consistently with Durham SU’s values, within agreed targets, to meet agreed outcomes.
