As part of its strategy, The Trust has ambitious plans to grow its access to the workplace programmes at both pre and post 18 age groups, in new and innovative ways. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Programmes Senior Officer to join our team and support the expansion of the Sutton Trust programmes.

The successful candidate will deliver the existing Careers Plus programme and will be responsible for s setting up two new industry strands in Tech and Consulting. They will also be responsible for the employer engagement of its Pathways to Engineering programme. They will join a small team and will play an important role in contributing to the on-going success of our programme work and industry engagement strategy.

The Senior Officer will work closely with the Programmes and Development teams to develop and deliver impactful programmes across a range of sectors. This is an extremely exciting time to be at the Trust and the role will require individuals to be creative and to think strategically about our approach.

This role will fit into a team of nine, led by the Head of Employability, and will be line managed by the Senior Employer Engagement Manager.

Main duties

• Plan and implement delivery for the three Careers Plus programmes, including skills sessions, work experience and mentoring across a range of sectors (Tech, Consulting and Law)
• Liaise with external delivery organisations to ensure the sessions and content of the programme meets its intended aims
• Recruit and manage a cohort of Careers Plus students (three strands, 30-60 students per strand), leading on communication to drive engagement and attendance across programme activities
• Evaluate the programme activities and delivery model to enable future programme development
• Supporting the effective delivery of high-quality in-person and virtual work experience and employer engagement as part of the Trust’s Pathways to Engineering and Access Apprenticeships in Engineering programmes.
• Liaising with a range of stakeholders such as employers, universities, and Sutton Trust colleagues to match students with relevant employer engagement activities.
• Following up with students in the case of any unexpected absence or non-attendance at work experience placements.
• Working with employer partners to promote volunteering opportunities at Engineering Pathways and Apprenticeship events in person and online.
• Working closely with the Senior Employer Engagement Manager and the Development team to manage and steward a range of placement providers and funders.
• Working with the Development team, manage the evaluation and reporting of programme activities including reporting/presenting to funders
• Other duties as necessary from time to time

Person Specification

We welcome applications from individuals who have experience in:

• Leading projects, including planning, administration and delivery;
• Delivering young person facing interventions, ideally with experience of digital delivery
• Facilitation of sessions with young people in person or online
• Building and maintaining relationships diverse stakeholder groups young people, universities and employers
• Monitoring and evaluation, reporting, and administration
• Using data to design and deliver programmes
• Using a CRM (ideally Salesforce)
• Working within or an understanding of the not for profit sector

We are also looking for an individual who:

• Is sympathetic to the aims of the Trust and its mission to address educational disadvantage
• Has knowledge and experience of the higher education and/or education and/or careers sectors
• Has strong analytical and problem solving skills, and uses their initiative to identify issues and propose improvements to programmes or processes
• Has excellent attention to detail
• Has first-class interpersonal skills - a natural ambassador able to represent the Sutton Trust in a range of settings
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Personable, flexible and discreet; able to fit in to a small team

Terms of Appointment

• Contract: Full-time, 1-year fixed term contract
• Salary: £34,000-£36,000
• Office location: The Sutton Trust, 9th Floor, Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, London, SW1P 4QP. Our home working policy gives staff the option to work from home for up to 60% of the time, with approval from their line manager.
• Hours: The standard working hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and may also be required to attend events / meetings outside of their normal working hours during weekday evenings and occasionally at weekends

Working with the Volunteering team and other key staff, this role assists in promoting the benefits and opportunities of the Give & Gain Programme at EMERGE. You will help us to recruit additional volunteers from the local community and beyond, by identifying and connecting with new networks and operational partners.  You’ll be a strong communicator, happy to jump on the phone or take the lead at in-person recruitment events.  You’ll be an experienced administrator with good data management skills to ensure we can accurately report to funders on our outreach and track the volunteers who participate in the programme. The Harlequins Foundation wish to appoint an Education and Employability Mentor to oversee the development, planning and delivery of our employability provision. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the skills required to organise and deliver programmes that support participants to develop the essential skills and progress them demonstrably closer to the employment market.

The Harlequins Foundation is the charitable arm of the Club, delivering programmes in our communities that primarily support young people to develop the essential skills, enabling success on and off the pitch. The Foundation has an educational pathway to provide learning opportunities from Level 1 through to degree level, however qualifications are only part of a learners development. As the Education and Employability Mentor, you will have oversight of a variety of different programmes, playing a vital role in the development and delivery of these. It is essential that you have exceptional knowledge of societal issues that affect the groups that you will be working with, and understanding the importance of the impact of the work that you will deliver.
The successful candidate will be confident serving in a pastoral role and as a mentor to the participants they engage with, challenging them to develop their skills while nurturing the confidence needed to demonstrate them. Experience of stakeholder management and an ability to build relationships with external delivery partners will be crucial to the role holder.

What you'll be doing:

• Deliver our current mentoring provision and look to expand into different stakeholders in our focus boroughs
• Lead the delivery of our Try Time programme, developing the Harlequins Foundation alternative provision offering
• Drive partnership opportunities to provide alternative provision within schools across Hounslow and our other focus boroughs
• Maintain and develop relationships with local schools and local authorities to refer suitable programme participants
• Lead on recruitment of programme participants from relevant referral sources and delivery partners, researching and establishing new relationships as required
• Support Education and Employability Mentor (EEM) with delivery of Employability Academy
• Support delivery of our NEET (not in Education, Employment or Training) projects and programmes
• Liaise with local employers and participants to ensure the efficient running of our programmes
• Take responsibility for the reporting and monitoring of employability programmes, ensuring accurate collection of data required to report against funding

Your skills and experience:

• Educated to degree level or demonstrable equivalent experience
• Have or willing to work towards gaining qualifications required to deliver and assess vocational qualifications
• Experience of working with children and young people, preferably in a classroom environment
• Experienced in engaging young people from a range of backgrounds, including hard to reach and disadvantaged young people
• Experience of managing essential stakeholder relationships while maintaining and developing new referral channels and programmes
• Experience using monitoring & evaluation tools, for example, Signal Stoplight, Upshot and Sport Value Bank
• RFU ERCA (or equivalent NGB coaching award)
• A commitment to safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults
• Highly organised with excellent planning and coordination skills and a meticulous attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to confidently present to stakeholders in person or online
• Ability to build excellent relationships and a confidence in networking

Careers and Employability Adviser

We are looking for an experienced Careers and Employability Adviser with extensive knowledge of working with care experienced young people (16-26) to guide and support young people in their professional development to help them reach their full potential.

Position: Careers and Employability Adviser

Salary: £32,960 - £33,949 per annum depending on experience

Contract: Full-time, permanent, 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Hybrid working

This is a hybrid role. You will be working from home and join Team Together Days in a co-working space in London 2-3 individual days each month. These days are considered commuting days. You do not need to live in London to apply for this role, but you will need to consider what you feel is a reasonable commuting distance for the team days in London.

ABOUT SMART WORKS

Smart Works is a dynamic, high profile and fast-growing UK charity that dresses and coaches unemployed women for success at their job interview. We empower each woman by giving her the clothes and the confidence she needs to succeed. After visiting Smart Works, 63% of clients secure a job within a month, gaining financial independence and transforming their lives.

The Smart Works service is currently delivered in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Newcastle, Reading and Leeds, with new centres in Bristol and Liverpool due to open in 2025. Over the past ten years, Smart Works has helped over 35,000 women. It is our mission that any woman who needs our service should be able to find her way to a Smart Works centre.

Our clients are mostly long-term unemployed and have experienced repeated rejections from multiple jobs: 40% have been unemployed for over a year, 20% have applied to over 20 jobs and 23% have applied to over 50 jobs. The majority are also from minoritised communities and face intersectional barriers to employment: 32% are lone parents, 16% consider themselves to have a disability and 52 % are from an ethnic minority.

In April 2022, Smart Works launched a new Three-Year Plan that will see the charity double the number of women helped annually from 5,000 to 10,000 women a year. At the end of year 2, Smart Works is on track to deliver the Plan, having delivered a 42% year-on-year uplift in engagement with our core Interview Dressing & Preparation service and with new centres opened in Croydon and Glasgow.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a thoughtful and dedicated leader to oversee the delivery of the Smart Works service across the UK, ensuring that the charity remains on track to achieve our current growth ambitions, and to also play a key role in leading delivery of the service as we move into our next strategic plan.

The Head of Programmes will drive innovation, build impactful partnerships with referral organisations and enable excellent decision making across all centres. The Head of Programmes will be the guardian of the Smart Works service as the charity grows, ensuring decision-making across the charity is always client-centric and every client has the best possible chance of job success.

The Head of Programmes will oversee the opening of new Smart Works centres. Project managing the opening of new centres will require exceptional people management and an ability to balance important small details, with an awareness of the bigger picture and wider strategy.

The Head of Programmes will also be responsible for leading org-wide projects focused on quality, that will allow Smart Works to ensure our offer continues to improve, so that more of our clients can move into employment.

This is an important leadership role within the charity, with the Head of Programmes regularly sharing insights and ideas with senior decision makers. They will provide valuable insight into the Smart Works service and trends within the wider employability support landscape.

Ideally, the successful candidate will be based at one of our London centres, and will travel to other Smart Works centres across the UK when needed. There may be occasional evening and weekend work as the successful candidate will be part of the wider centre team, supporting with networking and other key events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director of Programmes & Operations, the successful candidate will lead on a range of activities, including:

• Ensure a high quality, consistent service is delivered across the UK (both in-person and virtually).
• Drive innovation and support pilot projects that will enable the charity to evolve, improve and help more unemployed women secure work.
• Identify opportunities for digitisation of the service, to streamline our processes and allow us to grow our impact.  
• Increase awareness of Smart Works by proactively identifying and nurturing partnerships with organisations who have the potential to refer to multiple Smart Works centres.
• Project manage the opening of new Smart Works centres, drawing on expertise of other staff across the Smart Works team to ensure the centre is set-up for success.
• Visit all centres across the UK to meet service delivery staff and understand opportunities for development and improvement.
• Supported by the Head of Data & Impact, track progress against KPIs, identify areas for development and, when needed, work closely with relevant staff to address shortfalls.
• Keep up to date with emerging trends within the employability support landscape, sharing relevant insights with the Director of Programmes & Operations and other relevant stakeholders.
• Line Management of staff within the Group Operations team.
• Champion inclusivity and ensure the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion strategy is woven into the day-to-day delivery of the Smart Works service and service delivery decision making.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

• Substantial experience delivering and leading charitable programmes, or comparative work, preferably on a national scale.
• Demonstrable experience of managing projects, driving innovation and implementing new initiatives, with experience delivering digital solutions.
• Proven track record of writing and delivering strategic plans.
• Proven track record of setting and monitoring targets and KPIs.
• Excellent relationship building skills, preferably with experience working across split sites.
• Experience working within employability support is desirable but not essential.
• Detailed understanding of safeguarding requirements for a charity like Smart Works.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and able to communicate with stakeholders at all levels of seniority.

BENEFITS, TERMS, AND CONDITIONS

• Full-time role, ideally based in one of our London centres, with regular travel to other Smart Works centres. Open to discuss alternate locations at interview.
• Monday - Friday with typical working hours 9am - 5pm in line with centre opening times. Flexible working may be discussed at interview.
• Salary of £45,000 - £50,000 depending on experience.
• Reporting to the Director of Programmes & Operations.
• 25 days annual leave, plus discretionary leave over Christmas and New year.
• Positive, supportive working environment with opportunities for practical training and progression.

Dive deep to uncover any barriers that stand in their way, helping to remove those barriers to enable them to shine and propelling them on their journey towards amazing outcomes. Responsible for a group of young people, for one-on-one support and guidance or just gently pointing them in the right direction. You'll be on a mission to assist with travel expenses and find clever ways to handle their other commitments. You'll champion their support and learning needs with employers, and you'll be the ultimate liaison, working alongside partners like the job centre to ensure that nothing stands in the way of their success!

You’ll also be the guiding light for our employer partners and service providers as we want them to deliver the best experience and outcomes for our young people. High-fives all around! Roll up your sleeves and deliver employability sessions directly to our incredible young people. You'll also help our and volunteers do the same, both in person and virtually through our trusty MS Teams. When we're doing things face-to-face, you’ll need to hit the road and be there in person to help with programme delivery or programme visits to make sure all is running as smoothly as possible.

And if that’s not enough to keep you busy, you’ll also be keeping meticulous records of information and data on our young people, volunteers, and partners. It's all about making sure every step of their journey is accurately reflected in our systems so that it complies with our funding contracts.

LTSB’s vision is A world where all young people can choose their careers, with an emphasis on improving the lives of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The successful candidate will have a proven commitment to improving the lives of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, and they have an excellent understanding of social mobility, diversity and inclusion issues, and how these factors impact young people. 

LTSB does not have its own offices, so you will work remotely, but this role has significant in-person delivery expectations at partner organisations and corporate supporters, as well as occasion travel to our city hubs Birmingham, Liverpool, London, and Manchester. Position will require DBS Disclosure at enhanced level.

About the Roles:

You’ll join our dedicated Delivery Team, working directly and digitally with young people and external partners across the UK. Each role offers a unique focus:

• Delivery Partnerships: You will manage relationships with delivery partners, ensuring high-quality experiences for young people. You'll onboard and support partners to run programmes and facilitate events that inspire growth​.

• Development Awards: You will provide one-to-one support to young people aged 16-30, offering cash grants to enhance employability and life skills. You will help remove financial barriers to education, training, or employment​.

• Outreach: You will lead outreach efforts, attending events and building relationships with referral partners to promote The Trust’s programmes. Your goal will be to recruit and engage young people, creating opportunities for growth.

• Employability: You will deliver employability sessions and provide one-to-one support to young people, building their skills and confidence to enter employment. You will also collaborate with partners to enhance young people's progression​.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with partners, volunteers, and young people.
• Deliver one-to-one and group sessions, tailored to meet the needs of young people.
