Job description
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established, dedicated and enthusiastic team supporting people with mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety and depression to gain and retain employment.

Hillside Clubhouse operates an established Employment Advice (EA) service integrated into NHS Talking Therapies (iCope). The programme aims to support Islington residents who are assessed within iCope and who require employment advice.
The EAs in iCope initiative was designed as an integrated employment and mental health service to improve both mental health and employment outcomes. EAs are part of the iCope team and work alongside therapists to provide employment support to help iCope clients remain in work, return to work, or find employment. This takes the form of personalised support for the client backed up by an action plan detailing the client’s employment goals and the actions that the client, the therapist, and the EA agree to take to meet these goals.
Overall aim
iCope (Talking Therapies) is an NHS Programme that provides evidence based psychological therapies to treat people with mild to moderate and moderate to severe depression and anxiety disorders.
The new Employment Advisor (EA) will work within the Islington NHS Talking Therapies provision. They will work one-to-one with a caseload of between 25-35 clients referred by NHS Talking Therapies therapists to find employment, remain in existing work if they are struggling, improve their working environment, return to work following sickness or positively leave or retire from work.
You will primarily fulfil these duties by providing information, advice and guidance to clients who choose to receive employment support. The support aims to empower clients to make better decisions about their working lives, as well as communicate better with colleagues and managers in existing roles. You will also signpost clients to other relevant support agencies, as appropriate.
This role would suit someone with a background in employment support, psychology, counselling, human resources, recruitment, or a desire to transfer their skills into the mental health support sector.
Method of working
EMPLOYMENT ADVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. Engage a mixed caseload of clients at any given time serving 100-125 per year, with common mental health problems, to establish trusting, collaborative relationships to support them to find new employment or support them in, or to leave, existing employment. Support will be provided face-to-face in Talking Therapies settings, via secure online meeting platforms or over the telephone.
2. Along with their NHS clinician, assess clients’ support needs with a view to creating, implementing, and adjusting a personalised action plan to help improve clients’ mental health and achieve their stated employment goals.
3. Develop and deliver a range of practical services to support clients to find work, including career guidance, job searching skills, CV preparation, application form completion, interview skills, advice on local labour market opportunities and advice on education and training to further their career.
4. Provide guidance to support clients to stay in existing work, including advice on mental health disclosure, negotiating reasonable adjustments to existing workplaces, creating wellness action plans, and improving productivity, support to return to work after sickness absence or to leave an existing role with dignity, and signpost clients to organisations that can represent them (EAs should only look to represent clients in exceptional circumstances).
5. Facilitate access to other advice in areas such as financial benefits, debt management, food banks and community food outlets and social housing providers, as necessary.
6. Work directly with partners like Jobcentre Plus, other employment providers, employers, trade unions and employment agencies to support clients to stay in employment and secure employment opportunities.
7. Build a constant flow of referrals from the clinical team to ensure a dynamic and mixed caseload.
8. Meet referral and performance targets in line with the specific KPI / SLA requirements of the service.
9. Regularly attend team and other meetings as reasonably expected.
10. Maintain accurate and up to date records of activity and outcomes in line with service requirements, ensuring both the NHS and Hillside Clubhouse databases are kept up to date and paperwork compliant.
11. Receive regular supervision and training to meet individual, team and organisation’s needs.
12. Contribute to the development of a service that is locally responsive and supports minority/disadvantaged communities.
13. Comply with and actively promote all Hillside policies and procedures including Equality and Diversity, safeguarding and data protection.
14. Perform other tasks as required by your manager.
The role holder must also:
1. Pass a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at an Enhanced level.
2. Possess excellent IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office software, as well as experience updating and maintaining databases.
3. Maintain accurate and up to date records of activity and outcomes in line with service performance requirements, ensuring the IT database is up to date and paperwork compliant.
4. Receive regular supervision and training to meet individual, team and organisation’s needs.
5. Comply with and actively promote all Hillside Clubhouse policies and procedures including Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding, Data Protection and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
This will be based within community venues and working alongside our REP Case Managers to deliver an employability themed curriculum on a face-to-face basis. You will ensure that all learners have completed their ESOL Assessment, are engaged in the right level of support, are learning and are thriving in their journey towards integration in the UK and progressing with their ESOL to support returning to work over their time on REP.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Work alongside Case Managers to complete ESOL assessments and design bespoke
ESOL learning plans for each individual
• Deliver good quality in-house ESOL provision on a face-to-face basis appropriate to
learners levels and in the community and at community venues.
• Where needed liaise with local colleges, ESOL providers, charities and other
organisations to refer learners based on their language levels and needs
• Monitor leaners’ engagement with courses, including our own, their progress and
objectives or qualification achieved. Adapt provision where needed to maintain
engagement.
• Deliver activities in accordance with contractual Service Level Agreements and company
standards
• Keep accurate service users’ records in accordance with data protection requirements so
that personal information is safeguarded, and progress towards KPIs accurately recorded
on the case management system.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Required
• ESOL/EAL subject specialist teaching qualification or equivalent experience
• Experience working with refugees and / or those facing complex barriers
• Knowledge and understanding of Data Protection, Health & Safety and Diversity &
Inclusion
• Experience in successfully managing and progressing customers to meet agreed goals
and ambitions
• The ability to be based in, and travel around designated catchment areas
• Experience adapting delivery to meet the needs of those at varying levels whilst creating

Desirable

Location and compensation
You will primarily working on an outreach basis within the community. There are two part time roles available on 6 month fixed term contract, one covering Thames Valley and the other Surrey and Sussex
Compensation: You will receive a salary in the range 26,000-30,000 (FTE) GBP per annum, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package including private health insurance and up to 10% employer pension contributions.

THE ROLE – SENIOR EMPLOYMENT ADVISORS
Senior Employment Advisors (SEAs) will manage a team of Employment Advisers to provide supervision, training, caseload management, and role modelling best practice approaches to job retention. The SEA will play a pivotal role in managing a high-quality service that meets the exacting standards of our commissioners and delivers positive outcomes for service users.
Providing vision and direction, you will lead the development of our network of relationships, building capacity and ensuring the success of our job retention services across all providers. Making sure our clients receive the best service to meet their needs, you will be comfortable in managing contracts against our agreed service objectives and performance outcomes. Uppermost in your mind, will be building strong collaborative working relationships in your community with our partners.
This role would ideally suit someone experienced in employment support and managing a small team, however, we will consider applicants with transferable skills from relevant fields (e.g. psychology, counselling, human resources or recruitment).
SENIOR EMPLOYMENT ADVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. Manage a high performance, quality-driven service. You will be required to lead by example in line with our values, motivate the team and demonstrate best practice principles of delivering a job retention service. This will include managing direct reports and working alongside managers and frontline staff and members of partner/commissioner organisations.
2. Deliver a role with a dual responsibility to clinical partners/therapeutic services and Twining, while complying with Twining’s internal procedures and all relationships, both internally and externally.
3. Monitor and manage performance of the Employment Advisors (EAs), carry out monthly 1-2-1 meetings, quarterly performance appraisal reviews, managing the full spectrum of employee relations issues, the wellbeing of your staff and guiding EAs both individually and collectively on the achievement of individual and team performance targets.
4. Manage a small caseload advising and supporting clients to address problems in the workplace to help them return to work, remain in work, or find new employment.
5. Submit accurate, timely monthly reports to the Service Lead and any other management information requested on the performance and delivery of the service.
6. Produce regular monitoring reports for external stakeholders, including commissioners.

Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge (MindTHNR) have been subcontracted by NHS East London Foundation Trust to deliver employment support as part of Tower Hamlets Talking Therapies provision. Tower Hamlets Talking Therapies offers psychological therapies to those in primary care with common mental health disorders. The employment service is funded via the Department of Work and Pensions and Department of Health as part of a national pilot scheme.
Purpose of role
The post holder will operate as part of a team of employment advisors, working closely with clinicians within Tower Hamlets Talking Therapies as well as supporting the independent evaluation. They will offer one to one support to service users to find, return to or retain employment. The role will involve working directly with Jobcentre Plus, employers, trade Unions and employment agencies to keep people in employment as well as securing employment opportunities. This role may be delivered from multiple locations across the borough.

Key Responsibilities
Case Management – One to One Support
· Maintain a caseload of clients offering one to one support to help clients find, remain or retain employment.
· Carry out initial telephone assessments and action plans using SMART goals to identify clients goals and barriers to employment.
· Offer a range of employment support interventions to clients that will support them to find, remain or return to work.
· Support clients to create CVs, Cover Letters, write applications, inform clients of job search techniques, and provide mock interview practice.
· Provide 1-2-1 support to clients to enable them to return to work after long term sickness absence or other reasons
· Work closely with employers to support clients to remain in their jobs by negotiating reasonable adjustments at the workplace
· Work closely with local employment law professionals and trade unions to offer clients and their employers with information about their employment rights and responsibilities
· Make client referrals to JPM/Charity People mock interview sessions and refer clients to monthly webinars
· Complete vacancy search for allocated sectors as part of the EA Vacancy Bulletin
· Manage allocated service project and work with the team to ensure referrals are received on time
· Offer one to one sessions at least 1 evening per week where working hours will be 11 – 6:30pm
· Work closely with local employment support agencies such as the job centre, recruitment consultancies, training and work placement providers to offer suitable opportunities
Stakeholder Engagement and Relationships
· Work in an integrated way with the IAPT clinical team to demonstrate a seamless service to the client. Co-location to different NHS IAPT services and centres across Tower Hamlets to offer Employment Advice.
· Work closely with local agencies to identify appropriate job vacancies.
· Signpost the client, where necessary, to other agencies who will be able to provide advice on benefits or support that the client may be entitled to
· Where appropriate, work with other agencies the client is already being supported by, to deliver a more effective support service.
· Liaise as appropriate with secondary care mental health services and social services departments.
Administration/General
· Provide a service that is flexible as far as possible in terms of session hours, enabling, where possible, at least some of these sessions to be available outside normal working hours.
· Ensure that all necessary paperwork is completed on time, including questionnaires, reports and minutes for each client engagement and that these are regularly updated using the IAPTus (patient database system) and protocols.
· Ensure Caseload Management Tool is regularly up to date with client session information and targets.
· Attend Caseload Management Review meetings with Senior Employment Advisor
· Ensure good communication, planning and workload management.
· Maintain appropriate records/case notes and be administratively self-servicing.
· Screen therapy clients for suitability to Employment Advice Service.
Regulations and governance
· To remain informed of relevant legislation and changes to the benefit system, GDPR and data compliance.
