The Role:

As the Trust grows in activity and complexity-including its recent transition to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation-we are creating a new role: Operations Executive. This role sits at the heart of the organisation, ensuring our operations run smoothly while supporting the Chief Executive with executive coordination and administration.

Though not a grant-making role, this position offers valuable insight into the charity sector and the inner workings of a major philanthropic organisation. You will be responsible for a wide range of operational and strategic support functions - from facilities and IT systems to Board coordination and external communications. The person:

This successful candidate will have a substantial track record in providing operational and administrative support in a busy office environment, ideally but not essentially in the charity or not-for-profit sector. This will have involved exposure to office and facilities management, reception and visitor support, internal and external relationship management, governance and compliance, finance and budgeting in addition to PA or EA type support to a CEO or senior management teams.

The key to this role lies in its breadth, and being able to see the bigger picture, anticipating needs and to plan ahead effectively to provide comprehensive support across this small but very busy organisation. Highly organised with excellent attention to detail, this person will be able to multi-task and prioritise various pieces of work across the business. They will be collaborative and will be able to tailor their skills to a wide range of needs and if something is not within their immediate skills set, they will have the confidence and initiative to seek out solutions and make them work. Strong written and verbal communications and proficiency in all MS Office packages and experience with SharePoint and Zoom will be important in addition to being confident in proofreading and formatting documents for board papers and reports. Strong budget monitoring abilities and an understanding of data protection and confidentiality standards will also me important.

Experience of having worked in small, busy organisations where a broad knowledge across office based systems will be crucial, with the flexibility and adaptability to tailor skills where necessary and to seek out workable solutions to a wide range of issues. An exposure to HR processes will also be useful as well as being genuinely interested in the important work of the Trust. This role lies at the heart of the organisation and will be central to its ongoing success in meeting its charitable aims and objectives.

What We Offer:

What the job offers 

This is an exciting new post at our charity to take forward our Strategy to expand our service support and reach more people in need.  You’ll be responsible for recruiting and on-boarding a diverse team of volunteers who contribute to SLT’s programmes. You won’t be managing volunteers at activities – that’s handled by other team members – but you will make sure that all volunteers feel welcomed, trained, supported and valued. You will provide regular supervision outside activities and work with staff to develop inclusive, consistent volunteering practices across the charity. 

Who we are seeking 

We’re looking for someone with a passion for the value of volunteering, who can bring energy and initiative to develop our volunteer workforce.  You will have a proven track record of supporting volunteers in a community/social care setting. You will have ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues across teams. You will have confidence in delivering inductions and facilitating small group supervision sessions. You will demonstrate good organisational and communication skills, including the ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.  You will be willing to undertake occasional evening work for volunteer availability.

BACKGROUND

Ashiana is a ‘by and for’ women's led BME VAWG service with 30 years’ experience in delivering a holistic range of specialist services to South Asian, Turkish and Middle Eastern women affected by VAWG.

OUR SERVICES

Ashiana runs three refuges with a total of 29 bedspaces; specifically for women aged 16-35 fleeing forced marriage. This multi award winning project is the only service of its kind in the UK and is highly innovative in terms of addressing an area of significant need not met in other refuge provision. Within these refuges we designate a number of bedspaces for women with no recourse to public funds. We offer an advice and support service to women and girls who are experiencing VAWG, enabling them to make informed decisions and exit violent relationships. We provide a legal service supporting women with no recourse to public funds to help resolve their immigration status.

Counselling is offered for women and girls affected by VAWG. The counselling service works from an integrative stance, with the focus of providing a holistic service whereby we also work alongside other services and provide specialist domestic violence group work. The emphasis of therapeutic work with our clients is from a trauma informed model.

We also deliver an education programme for young people in secondary schools in East London aimed at preventing domestic violence and enabling young people experiencing domestic violence to access appropriate services. The prevention service includes delivering a whole school approach in schools to young people as well as group work to women and girls across North East London boroughs as well as community engagement activities and delivery. We deliver a range of awareness raising workshops for young people in the community and training on domestic violence for professionals in the voluntary and statutory sector.

PRIMARY TASK

The post is instrumental in overseeing the delivery of a comprehensive package of services and care for women in our refuges. To provide a safe environment and a service that is appropriate to the needs of young BME women particularly those from South Asian, Turkish and Middle Eastern communities and to support ex-clients following resettlement.

The post holder will have a caseload of clients and be responsible for providing advice, advocacy, casework and support to women and girls, advocating on behalf of these women and making others aware of their particular needs. The post-holder is required to demonstrate sensitivity and an awareness of the culture and needs of  minoritised communities in all aspects of their duties and responsibilities.

Bromley Experts by Experience is a local Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation, run by and for Deaf and Disabled people and carers in Bromley and neighbouring Boroughs.

We have a vision of a world where Disabled people are able to live their lives independently, in the way they choose, participating fully in society and enjoying equity and respect for diversity.

Our mission is to enable Deaf and Disabled people and carers in Bromley and neighbouring Boroughs to fully understand our rights, develop collective pride and build skills and experience in self-advocacy and strong civic participation. We believe this will allow Disabled people to lead in challenging discrimination in Bromley and beyond, breaking down barriers to independence, choice and equity. 

Our aims are:

• To support Disabled people to get our voices heard and to influence change locally.
• To campaign for an inclusive and accessible society.
• To support, develop and celebrate Disabled people’s skills and leadership.

You would be joining a small, committed team of staff who are passionate about creating more inclusive and accessible communities in Bromley and beyond to enable Deaf and Disabled people to participate fully in society and realise our rights.

As Youth Transition Worker, you will be working with young Disabled people in schools/colleges and the local community to support them to navigate the transition to adulthood. You will lead on co-producing workshops and events with young Disabled people to ensure they have the skills and knowledge they need to make this transition successfully.

Location: You will be based in our office in Anerley. During term time, you will be visiting four Bromley schools weekly. In addition, you will need to be able to travel to other Bromley venues as required and occasionally further afield. Some hybrid working may be possible in this role in consultation with your line manager.

Hours: 28 hours per week

Salary: £29,300 per year pro rata to 28 hours per week (35 hours FTE)

Annual leave: 5.6 weeks per year including bank holidays, pro rata

Pension: Statutory opt in rules applied to all our jobs

What you will be working on:

• Plan and deliver accessible and engaging workshops within schools/colleges, taking the access needs and learning preferences of young Disabled people into account.
• Establish a working group to develop a Youth Forum for young Disabled people in the Borough to campaign and have influence around issues that affect them.
• Develop connections with other youth organisations to organise workshops in school holidays that appeal to young Disabled people.
• Promote our free membership and volunteering opportunities to young Disabled people.
• Develop the skills of young Disabled people so they can take up positions on our Trustee Board.  
• Support young Disabled people to regularly evaluate the project and ensure that this data is updated on our database in a timely manner.

• You have personal lived experience of being Deaf and/or Disabled.
• You have experience of working with young people with a diverse range of needs to build their confidence and resilience.
• You can show empathy with young people and an understanding of their needs, empowering them to overcome barriers to reach their potential.
• You have understanding of the importance of safeguarding and working with people who might be ‘at risk’.
• You have strong organisational and time management skills, including being able to problem-solve, show initiative, meet targets and plan and prioritise your workload. 
• You have excellent communication skills, including an ability to adapt and tailor communication for people with varying access needs.
• You are able to cope with limited resources, seize opportunities and think creatively.​
• You are willing and able to travel frequently across Bromley to schools/colleges and local community venues.
