As a Shop Manager for Alder Hey Children’s Charity, you will deliver sales, Gift Aid and profit targets to generate income for our charity. You will empower and lead a diverse shop team, including volunteers, always demonstrating our Charity Values of:

The Shop Manager will be an integral part of the wider Charity team.
Income Generation
- Accountable for the shop’s performance in relation to all sales targets and Gift Aid targets and KPI’s. Ensuring that the results are communicated to the shop team and that all staff and volunteers are aware of, understand and are working to meet/exceed the agreed targets and KPI’s.
- Actively drive stock generation through community engagement and donor relationships
- Ensure maximum stock availability through effective stock control and shop replenishment.
- Continually review the rotation, quality, and replenishment of stock in order to maximise sales.
- Achieve the optimum price point for all stock items and promotional merchandise for seasonal and window themes, following the principles of Alder Hey Children’s Charity price guidelines.
- Provide direction and support to shop staff to actively promote Gift Aid in order to maximise contributions from donations.
- Identify local market and business development opportunities for performance improvement.
- Explore ways to maximise sales via events, donation drives, pop-up shops etc.
- Support the team to maximise income via our online platforms.
- Make commercial decisions to drive profitability of the shop.
- Present and maintain the highest standards of shop merchandising and visual layout.
- Support van deliveries and collections, including arranging schedules and assisting on the van when required to meet operational needs and support the team.
- Prepare and complete all shop administration inclusive of cash handling and banking functions to the highest standard, accurately and on time, always adhering to Policies and Procedures.
- Plan and organise daily workload throughout the shop in a way that ensures efficiency.
- Maintain an appropriate income/expense budget e.g., petty cash in accordance with the set targets to maximise the profitability of the shop.
- Seek, utilise and analyse management information including EPOS data to manage shop performance, seizing opportunities for improvement.
- Work with the wider Charity team to promote and support fundraising activities and events.
Staffing and Volunteers
- Create an inclusive environment where staff, volunteers and customers are treated with dignity, respect and fairness
- Line management of Assistant Shop Manager and team of volunteers.
- Proactively recruit, manage and retain a diverse team of volunteers, utilise their skill sets and motivate them to deliver great customer service and perform tasks in-line with charity standards.
- Maximise the shop’s opening hours and ensure the shop is open and managed by the shop team in the managers absence.
- Accountable for planning the shop rota, including both shop staff and volunteers to ensure cover at all times.
- Ensures that the new staff members and volunteers are provided with the appropriate induction process and training for their role.
- Provide and support ongoing training and development.
- Train and develop shop staff and volunteers in customer service standards, operating standards and retailing skills.
- To work and treat staff and stakeholders in accordance with the Charity’s values
- Ensure all Security, Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to in order to provide a safe and secure shop environment for staff, volunteers, customers and charity assets.
- Provide regular and relevant training for staff and volunteers in Health and Safety, maintain legal compliance at all times.

Role Overview:
Reporting to the Mental Health Programme Lead, the post-holder will be responsible for delivering a 10 week, 1:1 personal training programme to clients with severe mental health illnesses (SMI) which can include: Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Severe Clinical Depression. The post-holder will be responsible for attending initial and final assessment meetings either side of the 10 week programme for each client assigned to them as part of the Active Wellbeing programme.
The post-holder will also be responsible for supporting the Mental Health team with basic administrative tasks when sessions are not able to be delivered, which can include, but are not limited to, processing referrals, supporting engagement activities and organising assessments.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver a weekly physical activity session for each client considering safety and progression with each of the 10 sessions.
- Engage in all client assessments prior to and beyond their 10-week programme
- Active engagement and design of goals and individualised exercise plans for each client
- Monitor clients’ exercise intensity, type, and ability to ensure clients are exercising safely.
- Monitoring clients’ mental wellbeing during sessions to ensure safety and communicating any concerns to the line manager.
- Responsible for arranging weekly sessions with clients.
- High level of communication between instructor and client to confirm session times and locations.
- High level of communication between instructor and line manager to report any concerns with a clients mental and physical wellbeing during sessions.
- Provide motivation and encouragement for clients to engage in sessions and stay engaged in their programme.
- Responsible for the setup of equipment for outdoor or online sessions.
- Responsible for checking in and out of sessions with the Active Wellbeing team to ensure safety of both instructor and client.
- Responsible for checking the safety of equipment. If equipment is faulty and needs to be replaced, responsible for communicating this with the Active Wellbeing programme lead.
- Responsible for administering first aid in the event of an accident and ensuring that safety requirements are met in all areas.
- Complete relevant administrative tasks when sessions are unable to be completed.
The successful candidate will have
- Level 3 qualified personal training certification (essential)
- Class based instructing qualifications (essential)
- At least 2 years' experience in a role that involves delivering face-to-face personal training physical activity support
- Experience working in a mental health setting and/or long term health conditions (essential)
- Experience working with vulnerable groups (desirable)
- Mental health first aid, suicide prevention or mental health awareness qualification (desirable) or willingness to undertake training (essential)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

As part of a team, you will support a staffing rota offering support to service users between the hours of 8am-10pm Mon-Sun each week. In collaboration with your team, you will actively monitor wellbeing, mental health, housing and living environment to ensure service users journey into independence. Main Duties & Responsibilities
The function of the Maintenance Operative is to support the safe, compliant and effective maintenance of the Hospice estate, including grounds and retail properties, by undertaking a wide range of reactive and planned maintenance tasks.
The postholder will ensure that facilities remain safe, functional and well-presented, working under the direction of the Estates & Facilities Lead to deliver maintenance activities, support statutory compliance, and assist with the coordination of contractors and improvement works across all sites.
- Daily walk-through main site & grounds to identify problems/issues including checks of lighting, wells, sewage system, CCTV/security & BMS login
- Report & take action on any breakdown or defects in premises, copiers, plant, equipment & grounds taking action promptly, notifying senior managers & prioritising safety
- Undertake a wide range of general maintenance and minor works, including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating and repairs, ensuring work is completed safely and to an appropriate standard.
- Organize moving & storage of items delivered to the main hospice site
- Oversee contractors on site as agreed with the Estates & Facilities Lead
- Ensure weekly check of generator fuel, roadworthiness of all hospice vehicles, fire alarm test, flushing & logging results on a web portal & agreeing a remedial plan with Affinity water if necessary
- Management of copiers and any issues with them to include lease renewal
- Support the Estates & Facilities Lead with weekly maintenance support & response to emergency facilities requests for all retail premises, liaising with shop staff as necessary & ordering & collecting supplies
- Manage and prioritise jobs as required using the PPM
- Use the Estates PPM system to log, update and close jobs, ensuring accurate and timely record keeping of all maintenance activities
- Participating in the departmental meetings reporting on: Quantity of outstanding works &/or repairs with subcontractors, health and safety and any regulatory compliance risks
- Support the coordination of servicing and maintenance of clinical equipment as required, recognising that responsibility for clinical assets and compliance remains with the relevant clinical teams.
- Progress chasing outstanding work with the in-house team and contractors

- Check Hospice vehicles ensuring records of services, inspections, road tax, MOT; and that the competencies and licences of minibus drivers comply with appropriate regulations
- Assist with the preparation of the annual maintenance budget
