Job description
The National Gallery is seeking a Finance Analyst to join the Finance, Planning and Performance team. Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner, the role supports the delivery of timely, accurate financial information and insight to inform decision‑making across the organisation. The postholder will play a key role in month‑end reporting, budgeting and forecasting, and partnering with non‑finance stakeholders to improve financial understanding and performance.

Key responsibilities
- Support monthly reporting, including variance analysis and clear commentary
- Contribute to annual budgeting and in‑year forecasting processes
- Develop financial models for business cases and scenario planning
- Assist with month‑end activities (accruals, reconciliations, reporting consistency)
- Work with budget holders to explain performance and identify actions
- Improve reporting processes, data quality, and use of tools (e.g. Power BI)
Key skills & experience
- Experience in management reporting, analysis, and budgeting/forecasting
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to communicate insights clearly
- Good Excel skills; Power BI experience or interest desirable
- Understanding of core accounting principles
- Ability to work with non‑finance colleagues and explain financial information
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- An interest in art, culture and the work of the organisation is desirable

Pay rate: £21.98 per hour plus holiday pay
Location: Central London
Hybrid working: 2 days in the office, 3 days remote
Hours: 35 hours per week

Play a key role in rebuilding a finance function
Join a non-profit membership organisation at a pivotal stage of transformation. This role sits within a developing the financial planning and analysis team and will support reporting, projects and process improvement while the function is being rebuilt.
The role
- Support the month-end process, including analysis, variance review and reporting outputs
- Deliver detailed financial analysis on projects and restricted funds, ensuring accuracy and clarity
- Prepare and support donor reporting, ensuring compliance with funding requirements
- Work closely with project managers and budget holders to review spend, challenge assumptions and improve financial understanding
- Investigate and support resolution of historical financial issues, balances and data inconsistencies
- Contribute to the setup and development of new processes, controls and reporting frameworks within FP&A
- Support the creation of meaningful management information, translating financial data into clear insights
- Build effective relationships across the organisation to improve data quality and financial engagement
- Proactively identify process gaps and inefficiencies, suggesting and implementing improvements
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field; or studying for ACA, ACCA, CIMA equivalent professional accounting qualification.
- Experience in financial planning and analysis roles within a non - profit or public sector environment
- Previous roles may have included Assitant Finance Business Partner, Management/Project Accountant etc
- Experience in donor or restricted fund reporting
- Strong financial analysis, budgeting and management accounting exposure
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial systems
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proactive, can-do attitude with strong ownership
- Comfortable working in an unstructured, evolving environment
