Job description

Want to use your skills in Finance to play a vital role in making clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone everywhere?

Join WaterAid as a Finance Business Partner to change normal for millions of people so they can unlock their potential, break free from poverty and change their lives for good. On top of that you'll be joining a 2018 Great Place to Work® award-winning organisation.

The WaterAid Corporate & UK Finance team manages the day to day finance transactions for the UK and supports its budget holders to deliver their plans. WaterAid UK is made up of five directorates; People, Finance and IT, International Programmes, Policy and Campaigns and Communications & Fundraising. This role will work closely with the People, Finance & IT, Policy and Campaigns and parts of the international programmes directorates.

As our approachable, dedicated Finance Business Partner you will ensure best practice in monitoring and evaluating performance by budget holders in line with their multi-year operational plan.

Specifically lead on the budgeting process, develop good quality forecasting, enhance self-service reporting in the UK using technical systems knowledge and provide specialist financial advice for informed decision-making

The role is full time based in our London office and offers flexible working around core hours.

In this role the key accountabilities are to:
1. Regularly advise UK team leaders and senior manager to review financial aspects of their operational plans. 


2. Develop a systematic forecasting process for departments and ensure robust 3 year financial plans are live 


3. Develop enhanced self-service reporting relevant at budget holder and department level that supports optimal decision-making


4. Create efficient finance processes that best deliver the needs of the organisation


5. Provide training and advice to build the financial management competencies of budget holders


6. Work closely with the wider finance and IS team on delivering the organisational priorities

To be successful, you'll need:

  • A professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA)
  • Experience of formulating, overseeing and reporting on operational plans, including KPIs Demonstrable innovative ability; using data and insight to inform recommendations for improvements to processes or activities
  • Proven experience of using insight and analysis to provide trends, inform and drive business decisions
  • Keen interest in information systems, ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Experience of accounting for restricted funds, preferably in an international organisation
  • Adaptability to build effective working relationships with both finance and non-finance colleagues and work collaboratively
  • Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise and co-ordinate multiple tasks and confident to work independently
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Positive, proactive and flexible approach

WaterAid is currently located at Durham Street, Vauxhall. However, we will be leaving our current location in the summer of 2020 (likely to be June/July 2020) and moving to 20 Canada Square, Canary Wharf. Therefore the London Office location and contract base, if you are successfully offered the role, will change. This will be discussed at the interview stage with you.
