Job description

People and Operations Manager

Women for Women International (WfWI) helps women survivors of war rebuild their lives. We have over 25 years of experience working with women in countries affected by conflict. The UK office was set up in 2006 and has since grown into a vibrant and fast-growing organisation, raising over £5million for women in countries affected by conflict.

We are seeking a People and Operations Manager in our busy and dynamic London office to support our transformative work with the most vulnerable women in war-torn countries.

You will contribute to Women for Women International-UK’s strategic and operational HR objectives and provide the full range of HR guidance and advice to managers and employees. As the first point of contact for all employee related matters, you will ensure that all staff are aware of, and operating to, both our global and local HR policies and procedures, and that these are being implemented consistently across the organisation. The People and Operations Manager plans and delivers our people services in compliance with the UK employment law and best practices, to support our employee life cycle. You will nurture a culture that fosters performance and wellbeing of our staff members and serve as a trusted advisor to line managers.

You will help develop and coach managers so that they can confidently and consistently address any staffing issues that may arise, alongside managing routine employee-employer relations. You will coordinate and administer regular HR activities whilst contributing to a range of new and diverse HR projects, both for the UK team specifically and as part of the global HR function. You will spearhead new policies and practices to promote staff wellbeing and engagement, as well as shape and direct our working culture, to ensure that Women for Women International is truly a great place to work and develop both personally and professionally.

This position is also responsible for office management and day-to-day operations including asset management and general troubleshooting. Creating an enabling environment and removing barriers that prevent WFWI-UK staff from reaching their full potential is essential to our success and so this is an important aspect of the People and Operations Manager’s remit and makes up around 30% of the role, including line management of the Operations Assistant.

This opportunity will suit someone who has experience of working in an HR team or function, with a strong understanding of people management, and experience of dealing with employee relations. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, an outstanding communicator (both oral and written) and understand the importance of building strong productive relationships across a diverse group of colleagues. You will be an excellent multi-tasker, with exceptional attention to detail, and you will be calm and focussed in high-pressure situations. You will have an enthusiastic and flexible approach to work, strong emotional intelligence, and a genuine passion to make a difference to our work and our team.
