This is an exciting opportunity to join the Education team in the Diocese of Chester in managing the DBE’s financial operations and overseeing its legal work and schools’ capital projects.

The Finance and Operations Officer is a key member of the Diocesan Education team, responsible for the financial management and operations of the company.   This also incorporates overseeing legal matters, liaising with the DBE’s lawyers, and working with our partner company on school capital projects.

The role offers hybrid working that includes working from Church House at Daresbury Park, Warrington (at least three days a week).  This is a full-time position, although part-time may be considered for the right candidate.

About the role 

We are looking for a Finance Officer to manage our day-to-day finance and payroll processes. 

You will work closely with the Operations Manager and support the smooth running of our financial activity. 

Key responsibilities 

Finance 

• Reconcile bank accounts and maintain accurate financial records 

• Manage income and expenditure processes 

• Schedule payment runs and ensure timely payments 

• Credit control and chasing debtors 

• Produce financial reports, forecasts and variance analysis 

• Support preparation of end of year accounts 

• Support external accountants with queries

Payroll 

• Support our external payroll provider to process monthly payroll and maintain records 

• Liaise with payroll provider to resolve payroll queries and produce reports 

General 

• Provide administrative support across the organisation 

• Support membership processes and respond to enquiries 

• Support delivery of events (online and in person) 

• Manage the filing, storage, archiving and security of documents meeting all Data Protection requirements and responsibilities 

Essential criteria 

• Experience managing finance processes and payroll 

• Experience producing financial reports and forecasts 

• Ability to explain financial information clearly 

• Understanding of confidentiality and data protection 

• Strong attention to detail and organisation skills 

• Ability to work independently and as part of a small team 

• Commitment to inclusion and equitable practice 

• Bookkeeping, accountancy or payroll qualification (or equivalent experience) 

Desirable criteria 

• Experience in a charity or membership organisation 

• Experience using Sage Business Cloud Accounting, Xero or similar software 

• Understanding of disability or education sectors

Job Title:Finance Officer - Financial Planning

Location: Home based. Opportunity of hybrid working at Head Office East Lulworth, Wareham, Dorset.
Salary:£30,000 - £38,000 (Grade 3) per annum depending upon experienceplus 8% employer pension contribution.

Job Purpose

Reporting directly to the Head of Financial Planning you will support the planning, budgeting and monitoring process, ensuring a high standard of accurate reporting. You will work as part of the wider Finance team to provide assistance in other areas including receivables, grant administration, and year-end audit work. Your role will provide crucial capacity and support for the project to replace the finance system and review and implement new processes across Butterfly Conservation.

Main Responsibilities

1. Assist with maintenance of key reporting packs including Management accounts, Budgets, and Forecasts.
2. Assist with monitoring and reporting on Income and Expenditure.
3. Assist Grants Officer to monitor and report Income and Expenditure of Grants and Trusts.
4. Analyse, monitor and report on Project shortfalls and Chargeable services.
5. Assist with monitoring trends for profiling of income for Fundraising reports.
6. Assist in providing accurate Branch Management accounts.
7. Assist with year-end audit work including the preparation of schedules.
8. Working closely with the other Finance Officers to ensure accuracy of finance transactions and posting to be completed in a timely manner.
9. Be part of the team implementing a new Finance system and supporting processes.
10. Provide support and cover for other team members as required.
