As the Communications Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting every aspect of our charity’s work. Working closely with the Senior Management Team, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging communications across various channels. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Role overview
The Partnership Manager will oversee and deliver account management across our mentoring partnership portfolio. This role involves managing the partner experience across a range of sectors, including higher education, the third sector, schools and corporate partnerships. The post-holder will be responsible for onboarding new partners, supporting them in developing their yearly mentoring plans, engaging in regular communications to ensure we’re on track with our deliverables, and renewing contracts annually. Success in this role will be measured by key performance indicators such as partner satisfaction, partner engagement and meeting renewal income targets.
Key responsibilities
- Onboard new partners and welcoming them to Brightside
- Complete annual mentoring project plans with all partners
- Provide account management for partners to ensure a positive experience
- Coordinate our partner engagement work (such as our partner forums and the partner satisfaction survey)
- Meet regularly with partners to monitor project deliverables and ensure we meet and surpass expectations
- Lead critical partnership meetings, including planning meetings, mid-point reviews and end of contract reviews
- Lead contracting and renewal discussions with partners to achieve renewal income targets
- Manage partner contracts and invoicing
- Lead the recruitment function for our London based mentoring project, working with schools to promote the opportunity to young people
- Create and monitor renewals strategies for each partner
- Identify opportunities for upsells across the portfolio
- Work with partners to identify their critical success factors, and work with the delivery team to realise these
- Maintain our stakeholder register, to ensure we have the right relationships across the portfolio and the Brightside team
- Collaborate with the Senior Programme Manager to manage our approach to risk across the portfolio
- Act as an escalation point for challenges that may arise in projects
- Support the Fundraising team by meeting with prospective partners to generate new business
- Line management for the Project Support Officer

- You will line manage a Project Support Officer
- You will work closely with members of the Programmes Team to ensure we’re on track with partner deliverables

Set in the tranquil grounds of Willen Lake, Willen Hospice is the leading provider of specialist palliative care within the Milton Keynes area. We offer 24 hour / seven days a week palliative care to people who have advanced disease, caring for people in our Inpatient Unit which accommodates 15 patients and the local community. The Autism Centre of Excellence exists to improve access to high quality support and remove barriers and stigma for autistic people, but to do this we need to grow our funding.
We aim to raise £5 million over the next five years to increase our reach, impact and activities, whilst creating a sustainable and predictable income stream for the charity. To do this we need to systematically build a pipeline of donors and supporters, to build profile and new relationships. In the short term we need someone who can lead the development of a series of applications to trusts, foundations and other sources of funding to support our priority workstreams.
Main duties and Responsibilities
- Primary focus will be on managing and soliciting income from your own portfolio of high value trusts, foundations and statutory funders, securing gifts of between £10,000 - £1,000,000 to successfully achieve the charity’s ambitious fundraising targets.
- Secondary focus will be on the planning and delivery of first-class Special Events and Major Donor fundraising.
- Create a robust prospect pipeline of effectively researched and qualified funders, ensuring a continued flow of prospects through the pipeline, taking a sales approach to lead generation and the assessment of the warmth and value donors.
- Deliver effective research of prospective and existing donors, which enables us to raise significant income through both new and existing relationships; utilising our networks effectively.
- Implement effective cultivation and stewardship journeys that provides a high-quality supporter experience to your portfolio of donors and prospects.
- Deliver first-class relationship management to ensure excellent ongoing relationships with donors in both a written and face-to-face capacity.
- Deliver exceptional writing skills through proposal and bid writing and day-to-day communication with donors and colleagues.
- Fully understand the charity’s projects and activities to both ascertain their suitability as funding propositions and communicate them in a compelling manner to funders.
- Work closely with operational colleagues to develop compelling and thorough cases for support to inform our research and fundraising strategies.

The Role

This role will oversee and develop the charity's community fundraising and trade revenues, with a target of £266,000 for 2024. Context and Responsibilities within this role:
During 2023 a significant body of work was undertaken to prepare for the commencement of the campaign in 2024, including soliciting a lead gift, preparing a strong case for support and preparing various projects for funding. Cord has a loyal and committed UK supporter base of individual donors. The primary focus of this role is to support fundraising which involves
- the processing of donations and donation record keeping using a range of digital payment systems, entering records in to the supporter database, maintaining gift aid records and coordinating with finance colleagues regarding fundraising income.
- providing high quality supporter care to Cord's donors by assisting with the mailing of newsletters, writing thank you letters and notes to donors, and fielding enquiries promptly and politely.
- a range of other fundraising tasks including administering alternative gifts, helping with reports, liaising with payment platforms to ensure smooth processes, and supporting the preparation of resources for fundraising activities.
2. Running the admin office
Cord operates a predominantly remote working structure in the UK. However, there is a small admin office in Coventry which acts as a hub for the team with desks, resources and record storage. This role is responsible for overseeing this office and ensuring that remote office services run effectively. This involves organising the phone system and providing a reception service, managing mail procedures and monitoring office email accounts. It includes keeping the office in good order by managing supplies and storage, liaising with office suppliers, contractors and building agents. It also involves maintaining key holder registers, coordinating office access for the team, fulfilling health and safety requirements such as regular assessments and updating records, inducting and maintaining health and safety awareness amongst staff, when home working and working elsewhere, and providing logistical support for UK team meet-ups including sourcing venues and refreshment suppliers.
3. Providing admin support around Cord's global operations
Cord has programmes in eight countries throughout Africa and Southeast Asia with offices and staff in four of them. The Fundraising and Operations Administrator plays a critical role in supporting operations to support the smooth running of the organisation's internal services. This involves:
- IT systems: supporting the digital onboarding and offboarding of staff, purchasing and disposal of computer devices, maintaining records of current system users and liaising with Cord's external IT service provider on the issuing and billing of IT licences.
- Digital record systems: to support the organisation of Cord’s knowledge management system SharePoint, keeping key organisation administration information current, maintaining digital records in accordance with GDPR.
- Human resources: supporting recruitment processes, DBS applications, reference checks, monitoring employment contract terms, liaising with Cord's external HR advisor on employment contracts and policy amendments, supporting staff inductions, HR system record keeping and reporting.
- Finance: to carry out some routine finance tasks such as verifying petty cash counts, being a bank signatory that country reviews payments against approval documents.
- support to the Leadership Team with other operational tasks as required.
About you
To succeed in this role you will be a team player who is self-motivated with an ambition to help the organisation to improve systems, processes and information sharing. The ideal candidate will be proactive and able to anticipate the needs of colleagues working remotely in the UK and abroad. They will be highly organised, with the ability to maintain records diligently, and deliver routine tasks to schedule whilst also being able to improve system and process processes that continually increase efficiency.
