Job description

Ivy Rock Partners are partnering with a leading international humanitarian organisation to appoint a Finance Business Partner to support its UK programme portfolio.

This is a broad finance partnering role, working closely with senior programme leadership to embed finance into strategic and operational decision-making. The organisation operates internationally, delivering programmes that support people affected by conflict, displacement and humanitarian crises.

The successful candidate will sit at the intersection of finance, programmes and strategy, providing commercial and strategic financial insight across the full programme lifecycle — from funding opportunities and budget development through to forecasting, performance monitoring, risk management and reporting.

The Role

The Finance Business Partner will act as a trusted advisor to programme leadership, translating financial information into clear insight and helping programme teams make informed decisions around resources, funding and delivery.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering with senior programme leaders on annual planning, strategic financial planning and multi-year budgeting.

  • Developing financial models, scenarios and analysis to support programme growth, sustainability and funding decisions.

  • Leading budgeting, reforecasting and monthly Budget vs Actual reporting across grants, contracts and unrestricted funding.

  • Providing financial input into new funding opportunities, including assessing viability, pricing, risks and resource requirements.

  • Supporting the full grants and contracts lifecycle, from initial review and budgeting through to reporting and closure.

  • Working with external funding partners and implementing partners on financial management, compliance, budgets and reporting.

  • Maintaining strong financial controls and oversight of programme-level financial risks.

  • Supporting audit readiness and ensuring accurate, robust financial records.

  • Managing and developing a Finance Officer, while also building financial capability across the wider programme team.

  • Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, including through the use of AI and emerging technology.

About You

The organisation is looking for a qualified accountant with strong experience in financial management and business partnering, ideally gained within the charity, international development, humanitarian or wider not-for-profit sector.

You will ideally bring:

  • Strong experience of budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.

  • Experience partnering with non-finance stakeholders and influencing decision-making.

  • Experience working with grants, contracts or donor-funded programmes.

  • The ability to build financial models and provide scenario-based analysis.

  • Strong Excel and financial modelling capability.

  • Experience of supporting or managing audits and maintaining effective financial controls.

  • Previous line management or supervisory experience.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex financial information for non-financial audiences.

  • An interest in how AI and technology can improve financial processes and decision-making.

Experience of contract pricing, local authority funding and/or multi-currency environments would be particularly advantageous.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional financial reporting and play a genuine strategic partnering role within an organisation delivering significant social impact.

You will have considerable autonomy, direct exposure to senior programme leadership and the opportunity to influence how finance supports programme strategy, funding and delivery.

For someone looking to combine technical finance expertise with meaningful business partnering and strategic influence, this represents a particularly interesting opportunity within the international development sector.

Ivy Rock Partners are keen to speak with qualified accountants who are interested in learning more about the opportunity.
