Overview
The Premier League Foundation is seeking to appoint an experienced Communications Manager to support the Head of Communications in delivering strategic, impactful communications that advance the charity’s work, ensure recognition for our funding partners, and raise awareness of the work of both the Foundation and the wider football club charity network.
The Communications Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the communications action plan. This is an exciting, fast-paced and varied role within a small, committed team and will involve regular collaboration with communications leads across football club charities, as well as Policy, Communications, Editorial and Marketing colleagues from the Premier League.
We are looking for an individual with excellent interpersonal skills who can build effective relationships and work confidently with a diverse range of stakeholders. The preferred candidate will be able to adapt seamlessly between shaping and executing strategy, drafting compelling copy, and developing engaging success stories. Outstanding written, oral and digital communication skills, alongside strong attention to detail, are essential.

· Proven communications experience in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
· Demonstrable experience in one or more of the following areas: strategic communications, public relations, digital communications, or internal communications.

The Role

The role (what you’ll actually do)
As Head of Fundraising & Communications, you will:
- Sit on the Senior Management Team and report to the CEO
- Lead all fundraising and marketing comms activity
- Take responsibility for income and cost-effectiveness
- Shape strategy, set priorities and make evidence-based decisions
- Personally steward a small number of key major donors and partners
You’ll lead a talented team covering:
· Individual Giving
· Major Donors & Philanthropy
· Corporate Partnerships
· Trusts & Grants

- Data, CRM & Compliance
You’ll also work closely with our Heads of Equine Welfare and Discovery to fundraise for our work with vulnerable horses & children.

What You’ll Do:

Role Purpose
The Head of Philanthropy is accountable for delivering significant philanthropic income for Justice & Care, including through personally secured major gifts, alongside building and leading a high-performing philanthropy function.

Global Scope

Main Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to:
1. Strategic Leadership and Income Delivery
- Lead the development and delivery of the philanthropy strategy, with a clear focuson generating major donor income in the UK and driving growth in the US and emerging markets
- Be accountable for achieving philanthropy income targets, including through personally secured major gifts, working closely with the Global Director of Fundraising
- Translate organisational priorities into fundable propositions and compelling donor opportunities

2. Major Gifts and New Business
- Personally manage and grow a portfolio of high-value donors and prospects, typically at £25k-£250k+ level
- Lead all stages of the donor journey: identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
- Personally secure new major gifts through one-to-one relationship building, tailored proposals and direct asks
- Develop and maintain a live pipeline of prospective donors with clearly defined next steps
- Take primary responsibility for preparing and delivering high-value asks, working closely with the CEO, Board members and Global Director of Fundraising
- Convert access to senior networks into tangible income outcomes
3. Team Leadership and Development
- Line manage and develop the Philanthropy Specialist and future members of the team
- Build capability within the team to support pipeline growth, donor stewardship and future expansion of the philanthropy function
- Establish strong ways of working, including prioritisation, pipeline management and CRM discipline
- Set clear objectives and KPIs for the team
4. Events and Strategic Engagement
- Design and lead a programme of philanthropic events with clear income andpipeline objectives
- Personally leverage high-value donor events to progress relationships towards major gifts
- Use international engagement and trips selectively where they support donor cultivation and solicitation
- Represent Justice & Care in philanthropic networks to generate new donor relationships
5. Pipeline, CRM and Reporting
- Own and maintain a live, decision-ready major donor pipeline
- Ensure robust pipeline management and accurate forecasting
- Maintain high-quality CRM data and reporting (Salesforce)
- Provide strategic insight on income performance, risks and opportunities
6. Other ad hoc duties
- Collaborate across the organisation to support delivery of shared objectives

This new role is an investment and will lead a step‑change in line with our Underpinning Principles (above) and staff‑expressed appetite for clearer, more joined‑up external engagement. The postholder will lead on two strategic priorities:
·To diversify and grow income by strengthening our public profile, propositions, and routes to support.
·To increase voluntary support by growing and energising our community of supporters, volunteers, and ambassadors.

Job Purpose:
Working closely with the CEO to ensure the charity’s ambitions, as described in the Strategy to 2030 and the 2026–27 Plan on a Page are delivered, the role holder will proactively lead integrated fundraising, marketing, and communications work. The role is pivotal in aligning planning and tactical decisions to build a sustainable income engine, strengthening the charity’s profile, performance, and impact at scale.
Role Description
1.Income strategy and delivery
Lead the development and delivery of a clear, evidence‑based income growth strategy, diversifying and growing income streams to deliver the charity’s agreed income ambitions and reduce reliance on any single source.
2.Integrated fundraising, marketing, and communications
Hold full accountability for all fundraising, marketing and communications activity, ensuring strategy, brand, propositions, campaigns, and channels are integrated, coherent and focused on measurable impact.
3.Supporter growth and engagement
Grow and deepen relationships with supporters, including donors, volunteers, ambassadors and advocates, increasing participation, loyalty, and lifetime value in line with our strategic ambitions.
4.Insight, data, and performance discipline
Use insight, data, and performance management to inform decision‑making, strengthen propositions, improve return on investment, and give the CEO and Board a clear grip on income and engagement performance.
5.Leadership, culture, and capability
Lead and line‑manage all fundraising, marketing and communications staff, setting clear priorities, expectations and accountability, and building a confident, high‑performing culture aligned with the organisation’s values and Principles.
6.Organisational leadership and profile‑raising
Act as the organisation’s most senior income and external‑engagement leader, working closely with the CEO and trustees to raise the charity’s profile, influence, and credibility, contributing actively to collective leadership and strategic delivery.

Person Specification:
Qualifications
a)Educated to degree level or demonstrable equivalent (i.e. capacity to learn at pace, analyse information, apply insight, exercise judgement, and sustain delivery through complexity and challenge).
b)Professional qualification in a relevant field (e.g. fundraising, marketing, communications), and membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IoF, CIM)
Desirable: Evidence of accredited continuous professional development (Level 7), e.g. digital transformation, data‑led growth, commercial strategy.
Experience
c)Substantial senior‑level experience across most areas of income generation, including at least two from:
·voluntary income (e.g. trusts & foundations, legacies, individuals, community)
·marketing and communications
·supporter or audience growth and engagement
·digital fundraising or campaigns
·brand, proposition, or programme development
d)Proven experience of successfully leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing people, including line management and leadership through influence/matrix working to deliver shared outcomes.
e)Experience demonstrating a strong understanding of integrated income and engagement models, with proficiency in leading fundraising, marketing, and communications as a joined‑up system rather than discrete functions.
f)A proven record of developing and implementing income or growth strategy aligned to organisational purpose, values and long‑term direction, including delivering measurable results or step‑change improvement.
Desirable: Demonstrable success delivering income growth, diversification, or transformation in a VCSE or mission‑driven organisation operating at scale.
Knowledge
g)Strong grip of contemporary fundraising, marketing, communications models, inc. audience‑led growth, brand‑led fundraising, digital, data‑driven approaches.
h)Knowledge of the regulatory, ethical and governance framework for fundraising in the UK, inc. Charity Commission guidance and Fundraising Regulator’s Code.

This exciting new Head of Communications role will sit within the External Affairs department and line manage two direct reports. About the role

As our new Communications and Campaigns Officer, you’ll bring your experience in digital communications to contribute towards making Possible’s work relevant, accessible and inspiring to key audiences. You’ll take a proactive approach to increasing and diversifying our audiences and finding new ways to talk about climate change with new people.
Working across the campaigns and communications teams, you’ll create exciting and engaging content which brings our work to life on digital platforms. You’ll have a good understanding of which platforms, tone and style are best suited to reach which audiences, and an eye for analytics, monitoring and evaluating what works, and adapting accordingly.
You’ll provide essential, day to day administrative support to our communications and campaigns teams through information sharing, calendar management and document preparation. In our small comms team, there is a lot of crossover between roles, so you will occasionally be asked to pitch into other functions such as web and press. At different times, you’ll provide support to our varied campaigns—from aviation to community energy to traffic reduction to electrical repair—offering you the chance to engage with a lot of different people, in a range of ways.
You’ll be invited to contribute to general marketing, media, outreach, fundraising and campaign strategy. And everyone at Possible helps out in the best ways they are able, by doing things like organising digital birthday cards, taking out the bins or the virtual equivalent, so there’s that too.
We usually work 9.30am-5.30pm but staff can use flexitime to work the hours that work for them depending on the day or request different standard hours.
