This is a hands-on, generalist role combining day-to-day HR operations with a genuine focus on people, wellbeing and culture. You’ll be the first point of contact for routine HR matters, working closely with both the Operations Manager and Director (Founder) to contribute to a positive, inclusive and values-led working environment.

What You’ll Do

People and Culture

• Work closely with the Operations Manager and Director to help create a positive, healthy team culture that reflects our values and priorities.

• Turn people and culture plans into action, focusing on practical changes that improve day-to-day working life for our team.

• Stay up to date with UK employment practice, especially in education and purpose-led organisations, and use this knowledge where helpful.
   

• Run team satisfaction surveys and feedback activity, and help turn what we hear into clear, practical improvements.

• Support and promote equity, diversity and inclusion through everyday people processes and guidance.

• Work with external HR or legal advisers when needed to help ensure we follow employment law and best practice.

HR Operations

• Be the first point of contact for everyday HR questions from the team.

• Give clear, practical HR advice, knowing when to escalate complex or high-risk issues.

• Keep HR systems, records and documentation accurate and up to date.

• Support updates to HR policies and help ensure we meet employment law and GDPR requirements.

• Work with Finance on payroll changes and provide people data as needed.

Employee Lifecycle

• Manage recruitment administration, from advertising roles to coordinating interviews and preparing offers.

• Support safeguarding and safer recruitment by coordinating all required education-sector pre-appointment checks in line with KCSIE, and maintaining an accurate Single Central Record to ensure compliance before appointments are confirmed.

• Coordinate onboarding and offboarding, including contracts, inductions and exit interviews

• Support key people processes such as probation reviews, absence management and performance conversations.

• Help coordinate employee relations processes (such as disciplinary and grievance cases) with senior support.

We’re Looking For Someone Who

• Has CIPD Level 5 (completed or working towards, with support to complete)

• Has 2+ years’ experience in a generalist HR, HR Officer or HR Advisor role

• Has a good working knowledge of UK employment law and ACAS best practice

• Has experience supporting employee relations cases using agreed processes and guidance

• Is highly organised, with strong attention to detail

• Is a confident, clear communicator able to build relationships at all levels

• Can handle sensitive issues with discretion, empathy and professionalism

• Has experience using HR systems and managing employee data accurately

The Head of HR is a new role for the organisation. Over the last few years, the organisation and our staff team have grown significantly. To enable us to achieve our mission to give all young people a home, it is crucial that we make a significant shift in our HR and people plans so that staff and managers have all the support they need to succeed in these challenging times. Purpose of role

This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal leadership role at Lumos at a time of organisational strengthening and global growth. As a member of the wider leadership team, the Head of People will be central to building and embedding high-quality, values-led, and risk-aware people practices that enable Lumos to deliver its mission and long-term ambitions.

Working closely with Country Directors and HR focal points in country offices, the role supports the consistent application of global people frameworks while enabling appropriate local practice. Primary responsibilities

People strategy contribution & execution

• Contribute expert insight, options, and analysis to the development of the People strategy, operating model, and organisational priorities.
• Translate the agreed People strategy into clear frameworks, plans, and delivery across the organisation.
• Ensure people initiatives are prioritised, resourced, and implemented effectively.

Full employee lifecycle ownership (global)

• Own and oversee the operational delivery and quality assurance of the full employee lifecycle across all geographies.

• Lead the design and delivery of high-quality induction and onboarding, embedding EDI, duty of care, and organisational culture from the outset.

• Lead the implementation and embedding of Lumos’ performance management framework.

People risk & governance

• Lead the development and embedding of people-related risk frameworks across existing and new geographies.
• Ensure people risks are identified, mitigated, and monitored.
• Work closely with safeguarding, security, and operations colleagues to support joined-up risk management.
• Contribute to organisational governance and assurance through clear documentation and reporting.

Global partnership & country support

• Work closely with Country Directors and HR focal points to embed global people frameworks in country offices.
• Provide guidance, support, and constructive challenge to ensure consistent application of people policies and practices.

• Build HR capability and confidence across country teams.

EDI, culture & engagement

• Ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion are embedded across the employee lifecycle, policies, and people practices.
• Lead staff engagement activity, including surveys, analysis, and action planning.
• Support the development and reinforcement of a healthy, inclusive, and values-led organisational culture.

HR systems, data & insight

• Oversee people systems, tools, and workforce data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and insight.
• Work with the Global HR Advisor to strengthen tracking, dashboards, and reporting.
• Use people data to identify trends, risks, and priorities to inform effective decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with data protection and confidentiality requirements.

Leadership of the people function

• Line manage and develop the Global HR Advisor, providing clear direction, prioritisation, and support.
• Oversee time-bound HR consultancies, ensuring clear scope, value for money, and effective knowledge transfer.
• Act as a close partner to the Director of People & Operations, providing trusted judgment, operational leadership, and space for strategic focus.
• Deputise for the Director of People & Operations in people-related matters, as required and appropriate, including representing the People function in internal and external forums.

We are supporting an organisation through a high-risk, delivery-critical period within its People function and are seeking an experienced Interim HR Manager to provide hands-on operational leadership across a range of complex HR activities.

The opportunity

Hours: Part time – 3 days per week – at least one day per week office based

The interim HR Manager will play a key role in protecting team capacity during a period of significant organisational change, supporting compliance-critical projects and ensuring continuity across core HR operations. You will take ownership of an organisation design and transformation project manage ongoing employee relations cases, support the launch and roll-out of a new competency framework, and handle any new casework that arises during the assignment.
The role reports directly to the Head of HR. Some on-site presence will be required for key meetings (ideally Wednesdays), with the remainder of the role delivered remotely.
Key Responsibilities
Restructure & change

• Lead the end-to-end delivery of a departmental transformation project
• Support and attend individual and group consultation meetings
• Advise senior leaders on feedback, risk and next steps throughout the process

Employee relations

• Provide expert HR guidance on ongoing ER casework, including documentation and process advice
• Support progression at formal stages where required

Competency framework launch

• Finalise and prepare launch materials

About the Role​​

Based in the UK, this role will play a central role in managing and supporting the recruitment and onboarding of multiple project delivery roles across various countries, whilst also offering HR support to an ambitious FCDO-funded global safeguarding programme. The postholder will oversee the full recruitment lifecycle for direct hires, from job posting and candidate screening to interview coordination and onboarding, while also supporting partner organisations by coordinating their HR processes with the programme central team.​

Main responsibilities​

Human Resources:

• Serve as the primary HR contact for all programme and partner HR matters, providing first-line HR advice to staff and managers, escalating complex issues to the central HR team as needed.

• Oversee the delivery and improvement of HR guidance, leading workforce planning, succession planning, and talent management.

•Oversee the annual performance management cycle, onboarding, and exit processes, supporting continuous improvement of HR systems.

• Act as the central communication point between internal teams and partners, ensuring timely flow of accurate information between hiring managers, partner HR, and recruitment leads, and supporting resourcing and recruitment activities led by partner organisations to ensure alignment with project policies. ​​

Skills and Experience:

• Minimum 7 years' experience in recruitment coordination and/or HR roles, ideally within international development or humanitarian programmes.

• Proven experience managing multi-country recruitment processes, including coordination with partner organisations and remote teams.

• Proficiency in using recruitment platforms (e.g. LinkedIn, Devex, ReliefWeb) and applicant tracking systems (ATS). 

• Excellent project management and diary coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities across time zones. 

• Demonstrated advanced stakeholder engagement experience with diverse stakeholders, including internal teams, consultants, and partners.

MediCinema is a UK-registered charity dedicated to providing cinema experiences inside hospitals to support the emotional, physical and mental health of NHS patients, their families, and carers. The Role

Leadership and Strategy

Finance

Candidates with a relevant background in SMEs may be considered, but will need to demonstrate a commitment to quickly developing the specialist knowledge required by charity regulations and an aptitude for operating within the third sector.
