Our University has a proud history of philanthropy stretching back to its foundation in 1900. With a clear vision to change the lives of the people of Birmingham, Joseph Chamberlain raised the funds required to build the University from citizens and corporations based locally and around the globe. Since then philanthropy has continued to play an important role in shaping the University. There have been a number of fundraising campaigns, including a £1m urgent capital appeal after the Second World War and a £1.4m campaign to fund the Vale ‘student village’ in the 1960s. In 2015 we closed the Circles of Influence Campaign, raising £193 million, making it the largest HE fundraising campaign outside Oxbridge and London.

The University has global reach, including several partnerships with other leading universities around the world, and is grounded in its local community, having opened the first fully comprehensive University secondary school in the country in 2015. We are an ambitious and successful research-intensive University (one of the top 100 research-led universities globally) and have produced 10 Nobel Prize winners, including three who received their awards in 2016. DARO exists to support this academic and student community by engaging, inspiring, and celebrating alumni, individuals, and charitable funders who give their money, time, and networks to support the University’s strategic priorities. The Office, which is comprised of five teams, is focused on fundraising and volunteering from alumni, organisations and individuals who are passionate about changing lives, through funding various research trials, supporting student bursaries, mentoring students, and providing internships.

The University of Birmingham is recruiting a Corporate Philanthropy Manager, an exciting role that will join us in our ambitious ‘Birmingham in Action’ campaign and help us to grow our philanthropic income. You will manage a portfolio of corporate partners and prospects and will work with colleagues across the University to develop a pipeline of significant philanthropic gifts across priority themes and projects, with the opportunity to shape these based on your fundraising experience. This role is a great opportunity to further develop your skills and will play a vital role in delivering projects to change lives locally, nationally and internationally.

A key member of the Development and Alumni Relations Office’s (DARO) Charitable Partnerships team, you will identify, create and manage corporate philanthropic partnerships with local, national and global businesses. You will have an enthusiasm for building relationships, the skill to interact with high-level corporate professionals and academics, along with the ability to translate complex information into a compelling case for support.

The Corporate Philanthropy Manager will be responsible for:

• Developing and strengthening relationships with key current corporate funders to the University to grow philanthropic income.
• Identifying and building relationships with new corporate funders with the opportunity to raise five and six figure gifts.
• Managing a pipeline of short, medium and long-term funding applications and relationships to enable year-on-year corporate philanthropy income growth.
• Oversight of key campaign programmes.
• Building close working relationships with academics, alongside other University colleagues, to find information needed to write clear and compelling proposals on existing and new areas of research, that aligns with the strategic priorities of corporate funders.
• Build effective, co-ordinated, working relationships with a range of external stakeholders.
• Managing the whole donor journey of a corporate funder, from identification to acknowledgement and stewardship.
• Meeting reporting objectives of funders and ensuring an excellent experience for funders.
• Efficiently use the Customer Relationship Management system to record and report on activity.
• Be responsible for adhering to relevant fundraising regulation and current data legislation in the UK and in target markets whilst ensuring fundraising is ethical and that due diligence is undertaken as necessary.

 Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

• Educated to Degree level (or equivalent qualifications). Where no equivalent qualification is held, significant practical relevant experience and expertise in a similar role will be required.
• Evidence of writing motivational and persuasive reports or proposals – this could be demonstrated through performance in full time, part time or voluntary roles.

The Compliance & Recruitment Officer plays a vital role supporting the Recruitment and Compliance Team Partners to ensure that our recruitment and onboarding processes for permanent staff, temporary workers, and volunteers align with regulatory requirements and maintain the integrity and compliance of our hiring practice.

As a Compliance & Recruitment Officer you will deliver a high quality and responsive service to prospective candidates, recruiting managers and business stakeholders. In addition, you serve as a subject matter expert to the People Team and the wider organisation, ensuring that we prioritise the safeguarding of the children and young people right from the start of an employee’s recruitment and onboarding journey. 

Skills and Responsibilities 

On-Boarding & Compliance

• Coordinate all aspects of the onboarding and compliance process and ensure that the processes are completed accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner, including: issuing contracts, pre-employment compliance checks, and keying new starters/setting up new starters on the onboarding system.
• Ensure the accurate entry and maintenance of data onto the relevant HR Systems/ spreadsheets, by employing robust quality assurance and due diligence measures.
• Be the subject matter expert for Access Recruit & Onboarding and Better Impact for the team, the candidates/onboardees and the wider organisation
• Monitor and maintain ongoing compliance requirements across staff files, including (but not limited to): Right to Work documentation (i.e. valid Visas and passports); Professional Registrations; Dr’s professional insurance, etc.
• Ensure that all aspects of DBS process are managed in accordance with policy/procedures
• Assist the Recruitment & Compliance Manager in preparing, analysing and producing relevant reports and statistics.
• Conduct audit checks on new starters, volunteer and temporary worker files and report back to team to ensure continuous improvement and accuracy of data collected.
• Coordinate and/or supervise a regular and continuous calendar of personnel file reviews and audits, to ensure and maintain regulatory compliance, and where relevant escalate non- compliance issues to the Compliance Partner and/or the Recruitment & Compliance Manager.
• Assist in the coordination and delivery of an annual audit of CQC and Ofsted standards, across relevant business areas, e.g. The Children’s Trust School.
• Proactively maintain an up-to-date knowledge of our associated regulatory requirements, highlighting any updates and subsequent implications as soon as reasonably practical.
• Impart expertise and knowledge by delivering training sessions for new starters on compliance processes.
• In collaboration with the Organisation Development Team ensure the delivery of a seamless and engaging On-boarding and Induction experience for new staff and volunteers.

Recruitment & Selection

• Be responsible for the recruitment, on-boarding and compliance process for all types of permanent employees, Bank employees, temporary workers and volunteers. 
• Maintain the administration of recruitment and onboarding records, ensuring that these are complete and accurate
• Ensure all recruitment activities and the candidate life-cycle are underpinned by our Promises, whilst adhering to current employment legislation including Disclosure & Barring Service, Care Quality Commission, Ofsted, KCSIE and all policies and procedures

• Supervise and coordinate the daily work tasks of team Bank Administration or Volunteer support, ensuring that all administrative aspects of the recruitment process are delivered to regulatory standards, on time and in a professional manner.

People Team Support

• Where required, contribute to the collation of relevant recruitment and compliance data, ensuring that these are complete and accurate, in order to support the preparation, analysis and production of relevant service reports, e.g. recruitment KPIs, time to hire (on-boarding KPIs), SCR school reports, right to work/visa reporting.
• Build strong internal and external relationships and provide a first class, added value service, to all staff and external partners/ customers.
• Where required, provide additional support on specific People Team projects, as informed by and agreed with the Recruitment & Compliance Manager.

This exciting role will lead on all aspects of the finance function, including managing managing the Finance & Systems Officer, overseeing the production of year-end accounts in collaboration with internal stakeholders and auditors, and preparing monthly management accounts for reports to the Senior managers and trustees. Responsibilities also include stewardship of the Foundation’s liquid assets, leading the budgeting and forecasting processes, verifying monthly payroll prepared by HR, and ensuring the efficient operation of the purchase ledger function.

What does the role involve?

• Coordinate across the Foundation and help prepare the annual statutory accounts and all schedules for audit and be the lead liaison with the auditors.
• Prepare monthly financial reports and budgets for review by senior management, providing analysis and other measures of performance.
• Lead on improving processes and systems across all aspects of finance and liaising with the wider organisation to drive these forward.

Overview of Role:

The CRM and Systems Lead plays a key role in supporting Church Army’s adoption and effective use of Microsoft Dynamics 365. The postholder will take day-to-day ownership of the CRM, acting as the ‘go-to’ expert for users, maintaining high-quality supporter data, and ensuring data is managed in line with best practice and data protection principles. They will support and train colleagues, building engagement and buy-in to the system, and embedding effective, consistent use across teams. They will also maximise the potential of Dynamics 365 and the accompanying digital marketing platform, Customer Insights, to create accurate supporter segments for effective mail and email campaigns.

Salary: £37,924 per annum (FTE, pro-rata for a part-time role)

The Role

As a Recruitment Coordinator, you will play a key role in delivering a safe, efficient and compliant recruitment service across the charity. Overall purpose 

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Senior Team Administrator will take responsibility for managing the administrative requirements relating to the governance of the charity and of the senior staff team, and for ensuring Breaking Barriers operates efficiently as possible, ensuring that the organisation can be effective in delivering its mission.

You will have a strong knowledge of all aspects of charity administration, be able to manage a wide range of tasks, be able to work at a fast pace across all areas of Breaking Barriers’, and be able to drive new ways of working to minimise wasted time and resource, freeing up more staff time to best support our clients.

Key responsibilities 

This is a new post at Breaking Barriers. The initial key responsibilities are described below, and the role will develop according to the charity’s changing needs. 

 Governance and management

· Organise and attend quarterly board of trustee meetings, including room booking and note-taking

· Arrange other meetings with trustees, including regular subcommittee meetings

· Work with the Chair, CEO and other members of SLT to finalise and circulate papers for meetings with trustees

· Manage the annual plan of trustee meetings

· Work with the Chair and CEO to support trustee recruitment, training, induction, and record keeping

· Work with the CEO and Director of Finance to ensuring that all regulatory reporting is fulfilled, and appropriate updates carried out, including in relation to the Charity Commission

· Maintain the record of policies and procedures, and take responsibility for ensuring these are updated by the agreed senior team leads in a timely manner

Cross charity support 

· Be a central resource to advise on and make travel booking for all staff

· Be available to the HR manager to support significant administrative tasks, such as annual checks of staff data, and tasks relating to recruitment

· Be available to members of the leadership team to undertake administrative tasks as required, across a range of activities relating to fundraising, communications, services, programmes, finance and operations

· Lead on ensuring that data is stored on the charity’s systems in line with agreed policies and practice

· Take an active role in health and safety across the charity, including maintaining the health and safety and risk assessment register

· Monitor general email addresses, processing basic enquiries and forwarding enquiries to relevant teams

This is an exciting role within the Army Cadet Adventurous Training team responsible for ensuring all support elements are in place to facilitate the AT service for the Army Cadets and Combined Cadet Force.
